The Neighborhood:
Does the perfect Washington, DC location exist?… Yes. Yes, it does and I’m going to tell you why:)
Welcome to my neighborhood, the historic Eastern Market neighborhood on Capitol Hill! Now let's get to the fun stuff.
General Information About the Location:
Where you will be staying is in the heart of Historic Eastern Market Neighborhood, a sub-neighborhood of Capitol Hill. For full-time residents of Washington, D.C., Eastern Market is one of the most desirable neighborhoods to live in. Our opinion is that Eastern Market has a more authentic D.C. neighborhood feel than Georgetown. Not to mention a more convenient location to tour museums, eat at neighborhood restaurants, attend sporting events, and go to concerts. We can't forget to mention that Eastern Market has a metro stop within a 3-minute walk and gives you access to the whole city….well besides Georgetown which does not have a metro stop….yikes. But don't take this the wrong way, you will definitely want to spend a day or few hours walking around Georgetown:)
Food and Dining:
Restaurants: There are over 175 restaurants within a mile and a half of where you will be staying. From ultra high-end restaurants to greasy pizza shops we have something for everyone.
Coffee Shops: You can have your pick of coffee shops within a 5 - 7 minute walk you can choose from national chains like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. If you prefer boutique local options we have plenty of those options as well with Peregrine Espresso and Radici to name a few.
Grocery Stores: If you feel like cooking in one of our well-equipped kitchens. Within 15 minutes you will have a Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe's, Safeway, and Yes Organic.
Shopping
If you are looking to get in a little retail therapy while you are visiting, Eastern Market is packed with a bunch of fun, diverse shops. You can travel to City Center and visit the section of ultra-high-end retail. There are large store brands like Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, and H&M downtown.
Big Time Attractions Within Walking Distance
The National Mall - Is a 20-minute walk from where you will be staying. Our friends at Wikipedia described it well “The long, grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. At the eastern end is the domed U.S. Capitol (*a 15 min walk from where you will be staying), and the White House is to the north. It's also flanked by Smithsonian museums, and its lawns and pathways are often crowded with school groups, joggers, and softball teams. Nearby, the Tidal Basin reservoir is known for its blossoming cherry trees”
The Wharf and Navy Yard: If you are looking for a more modern experience or want to attend a sporting event. Navy Yard and the Wharf are great spots and all within 2 miles.
Nationals Park and Audi Field are both with a 30 Minute Walk
Dancing and Late Night Locations:
There are plenty of bars around Capitol Hill, The Wharf, Navy Yard, and walkable locations around where you will be staying. But if you want to go where the most activity is from 10 pm to 2 am we would recommend you hop in an Uber or Lyft and head over to U Street/14th Street in NW DC. It is a 15-30 minute ride to that area and you will find a diverse blend of nightlife options. You can also take the metro but keep in mind service stops at Midnight.
Getting Around:
Flights:
DCA: Also known as Reagan International Airport is the most convenient airport. You can either take the metro or a 15-45 minute Uber ride, depending on traffic.
Dulles (IAD): Dulles International Airport is approximately an hour drive from the big blue carriage house by car.
BWI: BWI is approximately a 45-minute drive from the big blue carriage house
Trains:
If you were taking the Amtrak into Union Station then you have a couple of options to get to the blue carriage house.
Walking: 1.2 miles which according to map programs will take you 30min. If you don’t have a ton of luggage and the Weather is nice it is an incredible walk by the capitol building and other historic buildings
Uber: 7-10min based on traffic
Metro: The metro stop at Eastern market is a three-minute walk away.
Unfortunately, there is not a metro stop at union station on the same line so taking the metro is not the most convenient. You will have to transfer from the Orange/Silver/Blue line to the red line at gallery place.
Bus: There are buses available
Scootering: There are scooters available through rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft.
Other Things to Note:
***Please note that parking is limited and subject to availability. If you require parking during your stay, we kindly ask that you reach out to us prior to confirming your reservation so we can check availability and make the necessary arrangements.
Nestled in a quaint residential neighborhood, we may be able to offer garage parking for one vehicle at a rate of $20 per day, depending on availability or Union Station provides a convenient, with garage parking available at approximately $25 per night. Nearby parking garages are also available, generally ranging from $25 to $50 per night.

This tidy, cute, and fun place was perfectly located for us. It was a block from a friend's house and walking distance to the Library of Congress and The Capitol. Once street over there is an abundance of restaurants and shops. The bathroom and shower were clean and bright. The mattress was so nice that my wife asked the host about it's brand. We will definitely be back.

We are so glad you had a great stay at the house, welcome back anytime!
Fantastic location. Feels like home. Hosts were great! Enjoyed my stay at this large studio apartment. You can literally walk around the corner for great restaurants, bars and the friendly atmosphere and neighbors that make up Southeast Capitol Hill. Sign up for a wine tasting, make a reservation for brunch or just walk under the trees, and greet those folks out walking their pets. Eastern Market (be sure to visit it on the weekends to see the multitude of vendors, but go during the weekdays if don't like crowds) is a must and only 3 blocks away. And the metro is right there and ready to take you anywhere else you may want to go in DC. Location, location!
The apartment itself is tremendously roomy for a studio. Located on the second floor of a historic row house, I heard neighbors talking through walls while going up the stairs in the hallway, but I never heard them while inside of the apartment. Once in a while, you may hear your neighbors upstairs but that's usually if they are cleaning - I was there for two weeks, so that's to be expected. No problems sleeping at night! Very quiet and the bed was extremely comfortable. Lots of storage with shelving and drawers and there is also a decent sized closet. Kitchen was large with a huge gas stove and a full sized refrigerator. Could use some mixing bowls and measuring cup (keep that in mind if cooking) but to be honest ... why would you want to cook when you have so many yummy options a block away! Will definitely be back!

Southeast Capitol Hill truly has so much to offer, and we’re glad you were able to explore everything from the restaurants to Eastern Market. I appreciate your feedback about the kitchen—mixing bowls and a measuring cup are great suggestions for future guests who like to cook. I can’t wait to welcome you back on your next visit to DC!
