Beautifully remodeled and newly furnished East Vail private home. Your family and friends will enjoy this lovely, comfortable home. Light and bright with vaulted ceilings and beautiful mountain views. Comfortable beds await you after a hard day of mountain play. Let our mountain home be your mountain home.
The two master bedrooms each have an ensuite loft which is not included in the square footage calculation for the home. Each loft has steep, narrow stairs not suited for small children. It is suggested that children should use the bunk room. 6 of the 8 beds in the house are not in the loft, only 2 beds are in the lofts (1 twin bed in one loft, 1 queen in the other loft).
The large open living room features a 46” flat screen, cable TV above a stone fireplace and inviting leather sectional sofa, perfect for relaxing and conversation. Cable TV. Catch a beautiful après ski sunset out on the deck.
All new kitchen has premium appliances, alder cabinetry, granite counters, and heated slate floor. The kitchen is outfitted with everything you need to prepare and serve a wonderful meal. The large kitchen table seats eight comfortably with additional seating for four along counter. Plenty of room for all to gather.
Bedrooms all have their own separate bathrooms, new mattresses and flat screen TVs.
Bedroom #1 upstairs - has a queen bed and a spiral staircase leading up to 2 twin beds. The loft is small and ideal for an extra visitor or two. There is also a small private deck off this bedroom.
Bedroom #2 - has a queen bed. A tucked-away staircase leads up to a cozy open loft with a queen bed.
Bedroom #3 (Bunkroom Basement) - has one twin/twin bunk and one full/full bunk. The bunkroom can easily sleep 4 children of any age, a family of 5, or a group of friends. There is a separate powder room off the kitchen/living room.
The house accommodates 8 to 10 people very comfortably.
Garage access and powder room are located off the entry foyer and the kitchen. It is convenient and easy to pull up to the house and unload skis and gear into the garage. The garage has overflow shelving for storing anything you may you bring. There are also benches for easy changing in/out of your ski boots. The foyer has space to keep jackets, shoes, and boots warm and dry. Laundry area is located on lower level accessible through the entry foyer.
Don’t waste time driving around Vail navigating parking garages and parking lots! Don’t settle for a dinky condo with limited parking. Experience the convenience of East Vail. Our home is located at the western end of East Vail on the free Town of Vail bus route with easy freeway and frontage road access. East Vail’s only market is just a short walk from the house, about 2 football fields East. Gore Creek and the Vail bike path are directly across the street. Walk to many different trailheads. There’s ample parking for two cars+. Make the most of your vacation dollars in this family-friendly home.
The Pitkin Creek Bus Stop is about 200 yards from our front door. The East Vail overflow parking lot is adjacent to our neighborhood at the East Vail I 70 exit. The Bus runs every 15 minutes during peak season hours. It is very easy to catch the bus and we rarely use our car once we arrive at our house.
This is the home you will want to come back to year after year..

With the Free Town Bus only steps from our home, a flat walk takes you to the Pitkin Creek Bus Stop. The bus loops every 15 minutes, making access to Vail Village and the ski slopes quick and easy. Once at our home you do not need a car and you can avoid costly in town parking. Your group can come and go as they please. Guests love our home because of the frequemcy and proximity of the Free Bus.
The house was great overall. Several beds and more than enough space for our group of 8 (4kids, 4 adults). Great location with short walk to bus for ski day.Host communication was 5/5.

Thank you Emily. You are welcome back anytime. For over 10 years we have been one of the top rated homes in East Vail. Everyone is pleasantly surprised once they arrive at the house. The shared refrigerator is one reason. "Take One / Leave One"
We had such an amazing time. The house was absolutely perfect. The free bus was right outside of the house and ran every 15 minutes, made is so convenient to get to the village. We absolutely loved the hot tub, was so nice after a day of skiing. The house had everything we needed (appliances, dishes, linens). Richard was super responsive before and during our trip, he provided weather updates and recommendations for ski rentals and things to do. We were worried coming from Florida regarding the snow fall but didn’t notice it on the mountain. We had snowfall the first few days and the mountain had plenty of runs open. We only had a few of us but the house has so many beds and can easily sleep 10. We can’t wait to return and would definitely rebook the property

Thank you Ryan for your glowing review. Families love our home. You mentioned what everyone likes best - the Kitchen, the Views, the Free Bus next to our driveway. I should add - Free Parking (this is a big savings given that Vail now charges $50 per day per car in town). We have been a VRBO "Guest Favorite" home for over 14 years! Our many guest reviews say it all. PS - so far this ski season, 2025/2026, has been the lowest snow fall ever record Year to Date in Vail, yet 100% of the Front Side of Vail Mountain is open and the skiing has been amazing! We receive 20 to 30 feet of snow at our home every year without fail. Don't let the weather reports mislead you, even what outsiders might call a bad snow year in Vail is still better than the best year elsewhere. For me and everyone who has come up this year, we have had the perfect ski vacation. The Vail grooming and snow management is the best in the World, even better than Deer Valley Utah. Come get it!
Perfect Big-Group Getaway in Vail – Highly Recommend! Our large group had a fantastic stay at this Vail mountain house—it was everything we hoped for and more! The location is perfect: right on the Vail bus route, making it incredibly easy to hop to the slopes, Vail Village, or anywhere else without worrying about driving or parking. Out of all our Vail trips, this was hands-down the most convenient setup. The house is spacious and ideal for big groups—tons of room to relax, gather, and unwind after skiing. The fully stocked kitchen had everything we needed (cookware, appliances, utensils, even some staples), so preparing meals for everyone was straightforward and fun. We saved a lot by cooking in instead of dining out every night. The big hot tub was a major highlight—hot, clean, and plenty big for multiple people to enjoy after a day on the mountain. The entire place was impeccably clean, with comfortable beds and a welcoming vibe throughout.Communication with the host was seamless—we primarily worked with Katie, and she was responsive, helpful, and made the whole process effortless. We even sent a quick message during our stay to share how much we were loving it, and everything was handled smoothly. The neighbors were friendly and nice too. If you're planning a group trip to Vail and want a hassle-free, well-equipped home base with prime access, this is the one to book! We'd return in a second. 5 stars across the board!

We stayed for an entire month and absolutely loved every moment. The home is actually better in person than it is in the listing. It is clearly a much loved family property, which you can tell from the quality furnishings and the fact that there is everything you could possibly need for a great stay. The host is communicative and generous—it felt like staying at a friends house.
Very well appointed house. Everything we needed for a family of 6 to stay for a week. We loved the hot tub and garage for ski gear. Great communication with owner. We would definitely stay here again.

A perfect home for families. Games, hot tub, near to the bus stop. Two families even better! Two master suites upstairs and a bunk room for the kids downstairs, perfect.
It was wonderful to have all the space for the family. The house was clean, well equipped, and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The free ski shuttle was easy walking distance with ski boots on, easier than parking at the mountain! The hot-tub was perfect for recovery, will stay again!
What a wonderful place and so great to be near the shuttle! Richard was a great host and very accessible to chat as needed!

The bus comes every 15 minutes just past the end of our driveway. Super easy to get to town and the ski lifts. Cars are not needed to get to and from skiing and town restaurants and bars.
There is a local , small grocery store / market, , and liquor store near the house, just East of the bus stop.
So far this season we have had almost 20 feet of snow at the house.
From start to finish it was a great stay.
Richard and Katie are great hosts and go out of their way to make for a smooth stay. Lovely home, well appointed kitchen, which got lots of use. Hot tub provided perfect post-ski therapy. Plenty of towels, comfortable beds, living room layout made for great game nights.
Location is 5 min walk to bus and then a 10 minute ride, making a car useless.
Would absolutely stay with Richard and Katie again!

Jordan is correct, most guests do not use their car once they arrive here. With the Free Pitkin Creek , East Vail bus stop just out our driveway, it is super easy and convenient to get to town. The free bus arrives every 15 minutes during ski season.
We couldn’t have been happier with our week’s stay at the Big Horn house for our guys ski vacation! We took full advantage of the very comfortable living space, garage doubling as a ski locker, full bedroom suites, 8 person hot tub, and the many other amenities. It was really enjoyable to end our days on the mountain staying in for relaxed cooking, drinks and meals around the kitchen and dining room table. Super grateful for time at your roomy, very convenient, and lovely ski house. The four of us can’t wait for our next stay at Big Horn in 2026!

Ski In Ski Out - with Town of Vail Bus
This was perfect home for two families with Children. The 4 kids were tucked away in the bunk room with games and a TV.
We parents had our own master suites. The kitchen had everything needed to cook a group meal.
The bus stop for the FREE town of Vail ski bus was just out the driveway to the East. The bus ran every 15 minutes so even when Dad forgot his googles,!it was no problem to go back to the home, grab the forgotten items and still meet us at the lift without a hold up.
This was our best ski vacation Ever.
We had 7 women in our party ages 20-60. It was a great location, very clean and met all our needs. We utilized the bike path across the road from the property every morning. Loved the hot tub after our hikes. Can’t say enough about the host, Richard. His communication is a 10 and extremely helpful. Both staircases to the lift are steep but we knew that going in. Not a big problem but be selective on who sleeps up there. I would go back in a heartbeat.

6 Biles in Garage for guests
2 Lofts -south loft 2 twin beds, north 1 queen
Each loft is in the two master suites
Master suites have one queen and full bath

Free parking here (big deal in Vail)
Small Market & Liquor store 2 blocks North
Creek & trail immediately across Bighorn Rd
This is a great property and with a perfect host. I will try and capture all the good things:1) Communication with host is outstanding. Richard communicates with you often and is available if you have any questions. However, everything is spelled out for you at check-in as well.2) Location is great. Bus stop is right by the house and since you are one of the last stops before Vail village and first on the way home - bus ride is quick and buses run often and on time. The house is right by the highway but, it never bothered us. There is a little grocery right up the street (within walking distance) for a quick dinner or to grab some basics.3) The house has everything you need. Beds are so comfortable including bunk beds. Kitchen is well stocked including spices, condiments, etc. Bathrooms have everything especially if you forgot something. There are plenty of games, throw blankets to keep you warm by the fireplace, extra towels for hot tub and so much more. They even have a bin of "lost and found" wear which has a lot of extras that actually can come in handy in emergencies (i.e. need one extra layer of something).4) The large hot tub is an added bonus especially after a hard day of skiing. It works wonderfully and if you have a question, again Richard is right there to help you.We will book this location again. As a family, we decided it is one of the best!
I am so happy i booked this property for my family summer vacation. The house was extremely clean with all the amenities you could possibly need. We visited during a heat wave and noticed the listing said there was no AC. However, this was not an issue at all. With a few windows open the mountain breeze cooled the place down within minutes. The house even got too cold on a few occasions. There were so many fans located in the house too! Its in a quiet neighborhood right next to the river. My kids had a blast playing in the water and seeing the fish swim. The hot tub was so clean and perfect temp for the summer nights. The best way to relax after a long day of activities on the mountain. I couldnt imagine staying in Vail Village with all of the other people. The house is only minutes away from the village so you can easily get your tourist fix and then head back to the peace and quite neighborhood with beautiful views. I would 100% reccomend this house to any of my friends and family and i will absolutely be looking to book this property next time i visit Vail. Thank you so much to the owners that make this family friendly house available. My family created memories that we will cherish forever!

Thank you and I am glad you had an enjoyable stay.
There is a saying that Colorado only has 2 seasons, Winter and July.
That is pretty much true. It is also the reason most mountain homes do not have air conditioning. Nighttime lows in the Summer are typically mid 40 degrees to 52 degrees. It isn’t warm at night in the mountains.
This one checked all the boxes - totally satisfied!
We just had such a fantastic time on our Vail vacation! The well-appointed, high end accommodations and thoughtful amenities at Bighorn House not only met, but exceeded our expectations. Richard was truly an amazing host. He was extremely helpful and responsive to any and all questions or concerns that arose both before and during our stay, providing assistance and helpful tips on skiing and what’s available in the area, as well as recommendations on where to eat and shop (definitely need to make any dinner reservations ahead of your arrival).
The home lends itself well to groups or multiple families, as each “master” bedroom upstairs has a loft providing extra sleeping accommodations, and an en-suite bathroom. The lower level bedroom also has an en-suite, with two bunk beds; one with top and bottom singles, and one with a single top and double lower bed. The beds were extremely comfortable and the plush white towels enhanced that end of day hot shower. There are lots of extra blankets and pillows, and plenty of storage. The washer/dryer came in handy to refresh ski gear mid week. The heated kitchen and entryway floor is a welcome touch first thing in the morning, and the hot tub is easily accessed right outside the back door. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, with most anything you need should you want to prepare meals. I recommend you hold off going to the grocery (or only pick up your perishables) until you have a chance to check out the condiments, spices and refreshments (there’s an extra fridge in the garage), cleaning and laundry products, and things like ziplock bags that are available for your use, with the expectation that you replace whatever you do use up. This is such a great concept as it definitely helps cut down on your grocery bill, and you’re not tossing perfectly good non-perishables at the end of your stay.
You can’t beat the convenience of the Town of Vail free bus - the bus stop is a very short walk to the right out the door and just left at the end of the driveway. You can text “Nbus Vail 953” to 41411 to find our when the next bus arrives before heading out the door.
We’ll be back and definitely will not hesitate to book Bighorn House again. Thank you Richard for your part in making our trip such a wonderful and enjoyable experience!

What a fantastic,, detailed review! We find the take one/ leave one policy for waters, beer, condiments , tea, coffee, spices, etc. Makes everyone happy and for sure saves trips to the store and unnecessary expense.
Nice big place, comfortable beds and lots of bathrooms. Stand alone so nice privacy. Good kitchen and hot tub too. You get more room for having to take the bus to the lifts, but it's worth it if you want space. Helpful host and good communication. I'd stay here again!

Felt like home! I love VRBOs that are owned by families, and kindly shared. There was a great sense of warmth and joy on this property with a fantastic kitchen, great living room, excellent hot tub.
Only one issue/warning, if you’re a light sleeper be aware you are near i70
But overall an excellent place for large families!

This is our home. When you stay here, we vacate the property. Because it is our home, everything you would ever need is here. Tool box, tape, garbage bags, spare light bulbs, coffee, sugar, salt, toilet paper, batteries, flashlights, etc. Also, the “Take one, leave one” honors refrigerator in the garage always has something for you. If you forgot that one item to complete a meal or drink, there is a small local market / liquor store 2 blocks to the North of our driveway.

Hosted by Richard Grodahl
The house is co-owned by the Grodahl and Vogel families. The Grodahl's live in Denver, Vogel's live in Lone Tree. We attended CU Boulder and developed a love of the Rockies that we have passed down to our children. Our children especially enjoy spending time together in Vail. Our familes love to ski, hike, and bike. Vail is the perfect mountain destination! World class skiing and a terrific village setting make Vail our home away from home.
Why they chose this property
We wanted a home in a great location with plenty of room for family and friends. After visiting different mountain towns throughout Colorado and Utah. Vail quickly rose to the top of the list. After staying in many locations throughout Vail, we found East Vail to be the best for many reasons. Easy freeway and frontage road access, convenient Town to Vail bus access, nearby grocery store, Gore Creek and trail access are just a few of the features which make Bighorn Lodge a great choice for vacationing.
What makes this property unique
Run, bike, or cross-country ski along beautiful Gore Creek. Grab your fly rod and cast a few in nearby Gore Creek. Catch the FREE town bus for a short ride into Vail Village or 2nd base area, Lionshead. Relax and enjoy this comfortable, peaceful, and beautiful family home.
