Great place to getaway, and the pickleball court is amazing!
We loved our stay here. It was peaceful, just what we needed, and only 20mins away from Winchester if you want to go there. We enjoyed the local farmer’s markets, the pickleball court, and the house is beautiful. It has a fire pit, but we didn’t use it. Enjoy!
My husband and two of our sons and their wives stayed here for an extended Thanksgiving get together. Each couple traveled approximately six hours from different directions . We were aware that this was a very secluded area and we were fine with that. Played a lot of pickleball and took walks on empty roads. Went in to Old Town Winchester for shopping and dining one day. Only about fifteen minutes and lots to see and do.If you’re looking for a real getaway, this place is great.

A nice mountain getaway
Our stay in Cross Junction was great. We loved being able to travel to Winchester and Cacapon easily. The house was very clean, we found no bug issues as previous reviewers mentioned. The water does have a STRONG odor of sulfur. I would recommend making sure you bring bottled water. As for the pickleball court….it was not amazing. It is very uneven, truly not safe for competitive play. I wish this were mentioned in the listing. Paddles that were there were broken. There were two broken windows in the pickleball area which we made the owner aware of. We were traveling with adults so not terribly concerned but if we had children with us that would have been a different story. Overall, a good stay. We really enjoyed the front porch in the mornings, so peaceful.
This property is not clean nor suitable for guests. The water has high sulphur content - and we felt unsafe to shower or drink. The courts and cabin has both ants and cockroaches. Ants were in the kitchen and bathrooms. Cockroaches were in the bedrooms, living room, and kitchen. It's listed as up to 10 persons, but we found only enough for 8 to sleep. There was not bedding for 10 and the kitchen lacked basics (like a bowl or measuring cups) We did not feel safe to contact the owner; but did contact the owner after we returned home but did not receive any reply. This property was not as advertised and should be removed from VRBO.

Cozy country retreat
There was a lot to love about this property. The rooms were generously spacious, the location was scenic, and the pickleball court and fire pit were fun amenities. The beds and couch were comfortable. There were some bumps along the way. I had to contact the property manager twice on the day we arrived to receive the check-in code, but we did have the code by the time we got to the house at about 7 pm. The property was as pictured but had a distinct smell, which seemed to be a combination of marijuana smoke and the tap water. The tap water had a strong taste and smell, likely due to high iron content. It left a rust-colored stain in the bathtub and yellow discoloration on the towels we washed in the property’s washing machine. After seeing this, we chose not to use the washing machine for our own laundry. We did drink the water with no negative side effects.Overall our experience was positive and we would consider staying here again in the future.
