About this property

Cottage on Spider Lake, Private Lakefront in Peaceful Setting

820 sq. ft. Cottage located on Spider Lake in Traverse City.

Spend a week in a classic log home away from it all with private lake access on Spider Lake just minutes away from Traverse City. This family owned cottage provides a peaceful setting, yet you are only ten or fifteen minutes away from most of the area's popular attractions. It is located just minutes from shopping and restaurants in Traverse City and recreational activities such as swimming, water sports, or golfing.

The cottage has a private waterfront, six acres of primarily wooded property and beautiful lake views. The rental includes a private dock, 16ft aluminum rowboat and two kayaks. There is an open concept living, dining, and kitchen area. We have two bedrooms with double beds, and bathroom with shower. The property is includes plenty of outdoor seating with an outdoor fireplace and yard games for family fun. This seasonal retreat is part of our family heritage and was built by our father upon his return from WWII with local logs and fieldstone. We offer it for rent because we are not able to use it all of the time. It is very well kept and has one of the best views on the lake.

We are located within 15 minutes of downtown Traverse City. We are just down the road from the Vasa Trail, and a ten minute drive from East Grand Traverse Bay. You can enjoy the privacy of the cottage with outdoor seating areas, an outdoor fireplace, a grill, and picnic table, or you are just a short drive from restaurants and entertainment of Traverse City. This family cottage is owned by six siblings. Our great grandparents were pioneers in the Grand Traverse Area arriving in 1870. Our Grandfather was born in 1885 at the family farm just a stone's throw from the cottage we own today. We have a long history in the Traverse City Area. In the early 1900's our family was part of the Straub Brothers and Amiotte Candy Company here in Traverse City which did business around the country. Our Dad was the owner of Trude Hardware, a historic business in Downtown Traverse City for over 70 years. Our family still owns the Masonic Building in Downtown Traverse City where the hardware was located.

Why they chose this property

This cottage was built by our Dad when he returned from WWII. He was a young, single man then, and this lake was sparsely populated then with only a few cottages on the entire 650 acre lake. He built the cottage in the evenings after he got off work with logs and field stone from the local area. We originally owned over 900 feet of lakefront and 17 acres. Over time it was necessary to sell some of the property to reduce the cost of taxes. Today we still own 500 feet on the lake and nine acres with one of the best views on the lake. We have been renting is out as a vacation home since 1950 as well as using it for our own family. We consider it a family treasure and keep it very well maintained.

What makes this property unique

This is truly one of the premier views on Spider Lake.
