About this property

Hidden Gem on the prairie, a house of light and ease

Forget your worries in this spacious and serene space.
Get away from it all and immerse yourself in nature from the comfort of a distinctive modernist home, where floor-to-ceiling windows and soaring ceilings bring the outdoors in, affording endless views across the rolling landscape of fields, woodlands, and wildlife.

Greet sunrise from the expansive bedroom with two luxe queen-sized tempurpedic beds, one with massage functions. Unwind in the spa-like ambiance, with two bathrooms separated by a unique, open double shower featuring multiple jets and hand-held shower heads. Luxuriate alone or with your partner in the deep, two-person tub with jets.

Enjoy meals at the large handmade table in the spacious, open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. Begin your day with eggs fresh from the chicken coop. The chef’s kitchen is fully equipped and generously provisioned with beyond-basic cooking essentials.

A large, cushy sectional sofa beckons for reading and conversation, but don’t feel surprised if you fall into a dreamy nap. Or kick back on the deck, shaded by live oaks. Count the variety of birds flying by or stopping at the feeders. The resident deer tends to wander by every afternoon; you can feed her by hand if you like.

While most guests come to unwind, unplug, and recharge, the library does have a television set with access to the internet.

Peaceable Kingdom encompasses 30 acres. Explore the rolling landscape on trails through woods and fields, along streams and ponds. Marvel at the architectural follies and large-scale sculptures strewn across the land. Stroll through our extensive gardens.

There are four other homes spread across on the property, each with their own acreage. Your guesthouse is set away from the others in a private glade. You’ll be left to enjoy your own space, but your hosts will be on call should you need assistance with anything.

Peaceable Kingdom is the perfect place to put away your devices, disconnect, and recharge your mind. Cell phone and internet access is very weak to non-existent at the guest house, but you can get stronger connectivity near the office at the center of the property.

The nearest town, historic Navasota, is about 8 miles away; there you’ll find a supermarket, several restaurants, and some shops. The larger town of Brenham—Washington’s county seat—has more stores and restaurants. Texas A&M in College Station is 23 miles away. The antique wonderland of Round Top is only 43 miles away.

We are dog-friendly; feel free to bring your house-trained dog to stay with you. Your pup should remain on leash when you’re hiking the trails to protect our wildlife. Your pup can be off leash if under voice control. There’s also a large, shaded pen so Fido can safely enjoy being outdoors. Several large, friendly dogs live at Peaceable Kingdom, and you might cross paths with them as you explore the property.

Wedding weekend
Everything was great there were fresh eggs, honey, and vegetables waiting on the counter. The home was very unique the design and architecture was amazing. The only thing I wish was done, if they mowed a trail around the house, I realized the wildflowers were blooming but a path to walk out of the high grass would have been a plus. Also if the trails that they mapped out were mowed the wives might have wanted to take a walk. But overall a great hidden gem to relax away from the city noise.

Great Country Getaway
Our church booked this property for our guest pastor to stay at when he was visiting to preach a revival. He LOVED the property! He enjoyed the serene surroundings with all of the windows, the wrap-around porch and the privacy the property offered. He sent pictures to his family and his wife was envious of the bathrooms!

Where the blacktop ends
The host was welcoming; the house is on a beautiful piece of property and has everything you need; and it is close to everywhere we wanted to go (Washington-on-the-Brazos, Navasota and Brenham). Recommend for a couple or a girls' weekend. I found myself singing a Keith Urban song in my head during my stay, which I think describes the feeling of this rental: "Gonna kick off my shoes and run in bare feet Where the grass and the dirt and the gravel all meet Goin' back to the well, gonna visit old friends And feed my soul where the blacktop ends"
