About this property
Kauai Oceanfront, Poipu 'Jewel on the Sea', AC, swimmable beaches, Kuhio Shores
Kuhio Shores, our 'Jewel on the Sea,' on Kauai's Gold Coast, is an oceanfront dream. When we first walked into what was to become our new home in Kauai, the views of the ocean, coastline, and lush green hills and palms took our breath away! Located on Lawai Beach or Beach House Beach (there are different names for this beach), it is rated the best snorkeling beach on Kauai by 'Sunset' magazine. A dive site and intermediate snorkeling reef are right below our lanai, and three famous surfing spots are on the south side of the building. We can watch turtles feed below the lanai of our condo and see blowholes out in the distance. On the other side of the building is where we first learned to snorkel, next to one of the best restaurants in all of Kauai, the Beach House, known for its view, which will be your view! Our oceanfront, one-bedroom condominium, #305 at Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams!
If you are on your honeymoon, wish to recapture the romance in your relationship, or want to experience the awesome beauty and serenity of this 'Jewel on the Sea' by yourself, with your family or friends, this is the ideal home for you when vacationing on the Garden Island of Kauai. Kuhio Shores is closer to the ocean than any other condo or resort on the entire island of Kauai, with beach access. Learn to snorkel by the Beach House, on the west side of the building (teaming with fish; over 650 varieties in Hawaii!), then get into the water below our lanai to snorkel or dive with turtles! On the south side of our property, relax on the grass and watch surfers (little kids will amaze you!) and spot whales in winter. Right here, are three of Kauai's premier surf spots: PK'S, Acid Drops, and Centers.
In our completely private, third-floor condominium (4 floors total), the only thing you hear is the crashing of the waves. As soon as you enter, your eyes go out to the ocean. You have unobstructed views from the kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and, of course, the lanai.
Remodeled for the most discriminating guest, our home reflects the Hawaiian tropics. Comfort, beauty and a clean environment are our priorities. We are following CDC guidelines for disinfecting our home before your arrival. Bamboo floors glisten in the light of the morning sun. Finishes in tropical greens and earth tones, create a peaceful, clean atmosphere. Bathe in luxury in our Noccino Italian marble shower with stone accents. The kitchen features Brazilian Verdi Peacock granite countertops that reflect the aqua of the ocean, and new stainless steel appliances. In the dining room, bamboo wainscoting and a large mirror framed in tropical wood, reflect the crashing waves, bringing the spectacular beauty of Kauai's nature inside.
The ultra-luxurious, Cal king-size bed, a top-of-the-line resort-style pillowtop, is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. We use high-thread-count sheets. Next, we take a silk-filled comforter and cover it with cool understated duvets. We add a beautifully embroidered bed scarf, making this a truly clean and blissful bed! During warmer months we rotate light-weight, tropically themed quilts. Ocean breezes cool you naturally as they are pulled through the bedroom breezeway. We splurged on quiet "Haiku" fans made by the Big Ass Fan Company. They are beautiful hanging sculptures that enhance the airflow and are rated best fans on the market by CNET. Not long ago, we installed air conditioning. It is rare to find condos with air conditioning on Kauai. Because of the airflow design, air conditioning is not usually needed but we want you to be comfortable even if the Trade winds should stop.
In the living room, there is a comfy contemporary queen-size pull-out couch. We just splurged and upgraded the pull-out mattress to a memory foam mattress. There are no springs; it is thick and feels like a regular bed. Two Hawaiian-style chairs with ottomans are perfect for lying back to watch the waves, listen to music, or watch cable TV. The hand-carved dining room table with rattan chairs is your exclusive seat to spot playful spinner dolphins.
On our large lanai are two chaise lounges, two soothing rocking chairs, and a tall teak bistro set for distant viewing and dining. You will be so comfortable, you may not want to leave. Seeing a rainbow, or the moon shimmering over the water will create lifetime memories.
We love the arts, so we collect original works of art by renowned artists that reflect the lushness and peace of Kauai. Our masterpiece is by Fred Gemmell. This large-scale abstract painting on the back of glass was at sea for a month before it arrived in our Kauai home. "Fred 'captures with complex detail and bold gestures, the amazing diversity, and adaptability of life in all its interaction and beauty..... to create a feeling of a luminous and unfolding mystery.” We are also proud to display original pastel paintings by local Kauai artist, Helen Turner, the 'Degas' of Hawaii. Molla is an artist as well and displays her work. She also keeps a binder of some of her paintings
If you work remotely, there is a desk and fast, secure internet at no charge. When you want to take a break, go out onto the lanai and watch the turtles or go down and take a dip in the ocean. Come back feeling refreshed.
Because we know you are probably tired and hungry after your long journey, we give you an 'Aloha Basket' with snacks and coffee, so that you can immediately begin to relax.
Walk to restaurants, art galleries, and shops at Kukuiula, and enjoy strolling the beautiful coastal walks in several directions to the big resorts, Spouting Horn, and the National Botanical Gardens, to a neighbor's fantastic bonsai collection. Across the street is a Hawaiian Holy Site, the birthplace of Prince Kuhio, with an ancient fish pond, lava stadium, and lush garden of fruit, plumerias, and bananas. Take a stroll and find a mango for the next day's breakfast.
When you stay 7 nights or more, you get a 10% discount. Also, look for other promotions.
The 'Aloha Spirit' truly exists on the island of Kauai. We have done our very best to bring this spirit into our 'Jewel on the Sea.' We love our island home.

About the host
Hosted by Molla and Kevin Wallace

When we were younger we lived in a cottage overlooking the ocean in Southern California and sadly had to leave. We never dreamed we could ever live by the beach again. Years later, we went on vacation to Kauai as a reprieve from taking care of our ailing parents. At the time we asked a local man about the best place to snorkel on the island. He told us about a small beach by the Beach House Restaurant. We ended up snorkeling there every day of that vacation. The reef was filled with colorful fish, the turquoise water was calm and access was easy. Being in the water there was such a joyful experience! We never dreamed of the possibility of owning a condo on Kauai, let alone on our favorite snorkeling beach, but it happened! It gives us great joy to share our 'Jewel on the Sea' with our guests. Over the years we have stayed in contact with many of our guests, some who return year after year. We host a Facebook page that is dedicated to all things Kauai, where you can meet local residents, make plans in advance of your trip and get referrals from our past guests. We are so grateful to provide a beautiful tropical oceanfront home for your special experience on Kauai. We enjoy getting to know our guests and will help you with ideas for your trip. We still live in the San Diego area, in a north coastal town called Encinitas. Dreaming of becoming Kauai residents someday. In the meantime, we love working on our Kauai Jewel. We love the arts and have commissioned beautiful pieces that enhance your experience in the space. Every year we continue to make improvements staying with the Hawaiian theme. We take great pride in our work on our 'Jewel on the Sea' and continue to do everything possible to add to your enjoyment. Hope you stay with us! We are sure you are going to love it!

Why they chose this property
Kuhio Shores is where, as one guest described it, 'the location is the destination.' It is closer to the water than any other resort or condo on the island and perhaps, in all of the islands, with swimmable beaches for snorkeling, diving and surfing right at the condo. No need to get into a car. You will hear the sounds of the ocean day and night. From our wall of windows and the lanai, you can watch the day turn into night with spectacular sunrises, relax on the lanai while the cool aqua waves roll past the lanai and turtles feed below. Witness a passing shower and rainbows over the water and the tropical greens of Prince Kuhio Park, the sacred birthplace of Prince Kuhio, with its ancient fish pond. In winter we get excited by the sighting of a breaching whale. Walk over to the Beach House Restaurant for a delicious meal or bring a drink down to the beach to watch the magnificent sunset. Head back up to the condo to lay on the chaise lounges under the evening stars or gaze at the full moon reflecting over the water. We never tire of the constant lull and beauty of the ocean. Our Jewel on the Sea, #305 Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams.
I have to give kudos to our staff who have never failed to make sure that when you walk in, the condo is clean and ready for you to enjoy an experience of a lifetime.

What makes this property unique
As soon as we opened the door of our 'Jewel on the Sea' we knew we were home and we had to make it happen. We didn't see this at the time (the view would have been enough), but right below our condo is where turtles feed. I have been told by guests who had previously lived in the islands that they have seen more turtles below our lanai during their stay than in all the years that they had lived in Hawaii.
We marry the luxury of upscale resorts with the comfort of a fine home with a Hawaiian flair. During a flight back to the mainland, an idea came to us about how to increase the airflow. The positioning of our condo in the building was already ideal, but now, after creating a 'breezeway,' the condo interior is like a cool wind tunnel, and sometimes we need to turn the fans off at night in the summer. With the first cut into the wall, we could feel the air getting pulled throughout the entire condo, and unexpectedly, we created an ocean view in the bedroom. Next we installed the best fans on the market according to CNet, the 'Haiku,' American made by the Big Ass Fan Company (yes that is the name!!). These hanging sculptural fans circulate the cool ocean air, allowing us to feel comfortable while listening to the calming ocean lullaby. Just to make sure you are always comfortable, we installed Air Conditioning so you will always be comfortable. Nothing gives us greater joy than to please our guests. The condo is filled with a love that is palpable from all of our guests who are celebrating their honeymoon, wedding on Kauai, birthday, anniversary, and the joy of taking a vacation on this most beautiful island, a place that we feel is the most beautiful in the world. From what we hear from cognitive science, experiences rather than things make us happy because they create lifetime memories. We are passionate about creating a beautiful, comfortable home for you so that those experiences made here will stay with you always.
