About this property

Charming Apartment in Provence - Cote D'Azur for 1 or a couple

Note: Our price includes all utilities, including wifi, local phone, cable TV, electric, hot water and gas stove. We are located in a modern building with an elevator and concierge a minute's walk away from the historic Old Town of Roman-medieval Vence surrounded by picturesque mountains ("baous" or "little peaks").

More details:
Located in the convenient and beautiful center of the historic village of Vence, in the Cote d'Azur region of France, our studio apartment is close to the town "place" or square, to ancient town walls, fountains, cafes, and wonderful restaurants. But it has all the conveniences of a modern building including the elevator. The interior studio has luminous light, and features a small balcony with table and chairs as well as a miniature garden. This balcony and the sliding glass door opens one of the sides of the studio to South of France sunshine and glorious mountain views. We are positioned on the third floor (second floor in French), and the space in general feels open and airy.

Framed art posters and a wall tapestry add color to the newly painted walls in warm earthy color tones. With simple furniture (some with handmade tiles) and a comfortable double bed (a "bio" bed made of natural latex), the apartment is comfortable, peaceful to sleep in, and attractive.

The studio is also located is located on low traffic street (but still near the community center of town, the Place du Grand Jardin in Vence, with its local cafes and "boule" players). The bathroom is large and separated by an entrance hall, providing additional room and privacy.

Guests have access to cable TV, good wifi service, and a ground-line telephone for local calls. All utilities included! It's a perfect place for one person traveling to Vence solo, or a couple.

Basic bedding and towels are provided. One small dog or cat is negotiable. (No pet fees!)

Car parking is available by subscription close to the studio apartment at the Place du Grand Jardin parking. Public parking meters are also available on the street in the nearby L’Ara district.

Other details: a washer is located in bathroom, with folded dry racks above the half-tub (no dryer). The alcove kitchen separated from the main room by a doorway and is fully functional and equipped with cooking supplies, a full refrigerator and gas range, as well as dishes and silverware, pots and pans, and spices.

Food shopping is close walking distance away (downstairs and around the corner) at the Place du Grand Jardin daily farmers' markets, or in the superb Old Town bakeries, cheese, produce and meat shops. Two regular supermarkets are also near the apartment building. It is a delight to food shop in Vence, where you can buy wonderful fresh ingredients and make fabulous meals.

Cafes abound with sunny or shaded outdoor tables about in Vence, which is built on an ancient plateau, and contains Roman as well as medieval stones and architecture. Art galleries as well as tourist stores are plentiful. The Matisse Chapel is a short walk away, and the local museum hosts regular art exhibits.

This is a non-smoking apartment and building. No smoking in studio, terrace or in building. Children must be 13 years or older. Two people maximum in this studio.

Come and work or holiday in our apartment, where you can enjoy just down on street level and around the corner many lovely boutique clothes stories, crafts, and fresh-food shopping,as well as several excellent restaurants and cafes, culture and art. Fountains in town spout the legendary healing waters of the Vence river "Fou." Locals come to fill their water bottles at these fountains regularly for their health.

Just walking around the Old Town of Vence is a treat to the senses and the eyes, with the Baou de Blanc (Little White Peak, in Provencal) jutting just above this magnificent setting.

French Rivera beaches are 9 kilometers down the plateau from Vence. Roads are well traveled and it takes about 20 minutes to Cagnes sur Mer, the local beach town -- with its lovely gallet beaches, beach clubs, and a sea-side promenade that runs for many miles from le Villeneuve town all the way through the city of Nice. This gorgeous city of Nice is only 25 minutes door to door from the apartment, by car, in regular traffic. The international Nice airport is right there on the way into the city of Nice along the Promenade des angles.

Buses also run regularly at the Vence bus stop about 5 min. walk from the apartment. They go to Nice and all over the Riviera, to the airport, or train stations.

In the winter time, we suggest you enjoy the beautiful South of France sunlight -- from a cafe terrace or from within the apartment itself. You can also have a drink on a Cagnes sur mer or Nice beach in the daylight hours. In the summer time, you can enjoy the Mediterranean beaches and swims, day and night, or hike in the bayous of the Vence backcountry. (Winter hiking is a joy, too.) Bikers will enjoy the Vence Backcountry, as will walkers and hikers. You can also enjoy the arts in Vence and local towns, and attend many regional music festivals -- from jazz to pop--during the summer months.

This is our own apartment and it is tended with love and care. We love sharing it when we are living / working in the States, and cannot be in this beautiful spot in France.

A lovely studio in the South of France
I loved staying at Laura’s property for a couple of months! The apartment was in a great location, perfect for day trips to Nice, Cannes, and Monaco. I found the area wonderful for enjoying the outdoors and hiking in the mountains. As a solo female traveler, I always felt safe in Vence and the apartment was a warm and inviting space to come back to everyday. Laura was an excellent host and I’m looking forward to coming back!

About the host

Hosted by Laura Hinton

Host profile image
Laura is a college professor in New York City who teaches literary studies and writing. She is based in Woodstock, NY, New York City, and in Vence, France. She is also a well-published writer and poet.

Married to Bernard Roy for nearly 30 years, a philosophy professor teaching in America but who maintained his French citizenship, Laura inherited the Vence studio from the French side of their family with her husband. Sadly, Bernard recently passed away. But she continues to love and care for the apartment they loved together. When not in Vence, she enjoys sharing this simple but beautiful space with like-minded adventurers and travelers from many countries and cultural backgrounds.

Why they chose this property

Vence is a special and charming town, full of ancient and medieval history, with wonderful restaurants, cafes, bars and boutiques. It is close to the sea -- only 9 kil. from the Cagnes sur mer beaches (two towns from the great city of Nice). Vence is surrounded by beautiful mountains (called "baous" in Provencal) making it an especially interesting town for hikers and bike riders, as well as tourists interested in architecture, art, and history. It is also convenient for those who love to swim. In the summertime, Vence has an exceptional local public pool near the apartment. And getting to the local Cote d'Azur beaches with Mediterranean shores and attractive beach-cafes is very easy both by car and bus.
