Bookkeeper’s Room is a beautifully finished and furnished studio perfect for a romantic getaway. Standard configuration is a memory foam King size bed, and it can be configured with 2 Twin XL beds to accommodate Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guests. Views of the Lighthouse & Fog Signal Building from front door and bedroom windows. Mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, 55" flat screen TV with DishTV and radiant heat flooring throughout. Pet friendly for up to 2 pets (pet fee applies)
The space
Our newest vacation cottage, the Bookkeeper's Room, is a beautifully finished and furnished studio perfect for that romantic getaway. In its standard configuration guests will enjoy a memory foam King size bed with views of the Lighthouse Tower and Fog Signal Building from the front door and bedroom windows. It can also be configured to accommodate Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guests on two Twin XL beds. The tastefully decorated unit provides guests with a mini-fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker and 55" flat screen TV with DishTV service. Enjoy the warmth of the radiant heat flooring in the bedroom and bathroom and the beautifully tiled bathroom with large curbless shower. You will also find a welcome gift bottle of Husch Vineyards wine and chocolates from Mendocino Chocolate Company waiting for you in the room. This unit is also pet friendly for up to 2 pets (pet fee of $25 per pet per stay). Come try out our newest cottage! Please let us know if you are an ADA guest when you make your reservation so that we can configure the room to accommodate you.

Guests may come and go at any time, the front entry gates are closed but not locked outside of our business hours. All of our rentals include unlimited access to our 23 acre Outdoor Museum. Visit our Light Station Store and Indoor Museum, housed in the historic 1896 Fog Signal Building and containing the original 1st Order Fresnel lens from the 1908 Tower, anytime between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily (4:30 p.m. Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day). Tours of the Lighthouse Tower can be arranged by checking with the Light Station Store Associate at the store counter. Tours are conducted around every 20 minutes with the first Tour at 10:15 a.m. and the last around 4 p.m. Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 3 p.m. the rest of the year.
Other things to note
We have a 3-night minimum on holiday periods including Memorial, Labor Day and Presidents Day weekends, and the 4th of July and Christmas-New Years period. The Thanksgiving holiday (Thursday through Sunday) is a 4-night minimum.
We are on a septic system, so we ask that you not put anything other than toilet paper in the toilets and that you do not pour any grease down the drains.
There is a friendly lighthouse cat on the property named Arena Mina. Please do not let Mina into your unit, we need to be able to find her at the end of the day to put her safely away for the night.

The Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers, Inc. (PALKI) is a 501(c)(30 non-profit that owns the 23 acre Light Station and all its buildings and structures. We receive no funding from any government or charitable institutions, we are completely dependent on our lodging revenue, museum and Tower tours, Light Station Store sales and PALKI memberships to keep the light shining in our 154th year.
Why they chose this property
The wild and remote Mendocino coast of California is beautiful, unique, rugged, soul stirring and very private. We are surrounded on 3 sides by the Pacific Ocean and on the 4th by the 1,665 acre Point Arena-Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument. The nearest town is the city of Point Arena, which is 4.5 miles south of us.
What makes this property unique
The Point Arena Light Station #496 was established in 1869 and the original Lighthouse was first lit on May 1, 1870. The vacation cottages and studios on the property were built in 1960 by the U. S. Coast Guard to house the Lightkeepers and their families. 5 of the 7 units have been completely remodeled and updated. Every guest is entitled to unlimited tours of the Indoor Museum, Outdoor Museum and 115' tall Lighthouse Tower. The Station features four unique stone installations including the entry fence (the only one of its kind in the world), the Labyrinth, fanciful "Shiprock" structure and the Druids Circle/Homage to Stonehenge. Watch the gray whales migrate north and south from December through May, humpbacks throughout the year, and other marine mammals. We are an active harbor seal rookery with many pups born annually around March of each year and are a favorite migratory flyby of pelicans, seabirds and geese. With minimal nearby lights our nighttime sky is ablaze with stars and the Milky Way, and we also offer Full Moon Night Tours most months where you get to climb to the top of the 115' tall Lighthouse Tower under a rising full moon.
