About this property

Hoh Chalet A cozy cabin on the Olympic Peninsula

The Hoh Chalet is a cozy cabin located on the Olympic Peninsula in the Hoh River Basin. It is heated with a woodstove and has spiral stairs to get up to both bedrooms. Pictures of stairs are in additional photos in this listing.

The space
The Chalet is a small cabin, just 400 sq ft per floor. It is an independant home and is powered by solar energy. The inside is DIY finished with repurposed materials. Only the appliances are new.
This two-story cabin has 2 bedrooms upstairs with a double bed in each, no doors, and a desk in the hall. The entry level has a kitchenette, bathroom, dining area and common area with a hide-a-bed in the sitting room. It is heated with a woodstove; firewood, cable TV, and Wi-Fi are provided.

Guest access
There is plenty of parking, with a carport for smaller vehicles. You are welcome to walk down the road, and tour our property. We have a berry farm and U-Pick berries starting in late June as well as a grocery garden, and a path through our wooded area. A large communal fire pit is located behind our retail shack where Hoh Made Jam, Native Hoh River Smoked Salmon, and local arts and crafts are available.
Other things to note
Access to the upper floor is via a spiral staircase. If you have small children or do not do stairs easily, this may not be for you.
Pets are allowed, but they may not be left unattended.

The Hoh Chalet was a cute and quaint place to stay. Not only convenient to highly desirable locations in Olympic, the chalet is clearly a labor of love for the host, Diane. The stairs can be challenging, the lighting was a little dim, and there were limited outlets for devices by the 1st bed upstairs (we only used one of the beds, so we didn’t investigate the 2nd), but as an off-grid, eco-friendly building these latter two points are not dealbreakers at all. It was a very lovely stay.

Diane and the property are lovely, with goats and chickens and blackberries! The staircase in the property is steep, and it can be difficult to navigate when getting up in the night to go to the restroom which is downstairs. Diane is very communicative and responded immediately when I accidentally broke the spigot on the water cooler, bringing by a gallon of bottled water. The shower is tricky to figure out how to get the hot water going. Overall, a very lovely stay after three days of backpacking!

This Chalet is probably the most eclectic, creative, and unique place I've ever stayed in. Every corner held surprises. My 2 friends and I enjoyed the homey feeling, the farm-like grounds, and the owner, Diane and her friend, Hoh elder Vivian. One word of warning, the spiral staircase up to the 2 bedrooms is not for the faint of heart. It is accessible with all the handrails that are on both sides, but must be used with care. The location is good for a west Peninsula stay, between Kalaloch and the entrance to the Hoh Rain Forest. We enjoyed our stay at the Chalet.
