Located directly on the famous “Chicken Coop”, a stretch of the Sabine River bed that touches the west side of the lake and stays close to shore for nearly 2 miles. This prime fishing area is well known to locals as The Chicken Coop. This crappie hole was named such because of several large commercial chicken houses that once lined the top of the ridge near the river bank. This deep stretch of the river is has developed a reputation over the years of producing almost unbelievable numbers of crappie for approximately six to eight weeks during the winter, depending on weather conditions.

Thank you Alicia. I appreciate your feedback and welcome you in the future.
Host was always in contact with me. Amenities were amazing, shampoo, coffee and several small things were included, helped so much for things we might have forgot to pack. Plenty of room for several families. Beautiful house, and beautiful views. And, hottub was so nice for when the kids went to sleep. I have zero complaints, and will absolutely be returning again.
We struggle to find places big enough for our yearly family vacation and this place was perfect! So much space for everyone and comfortable rooms/living spaces. The view of the lake is relaxing and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay!

Thank you for taking time to review your stay at Cliffside. We’re so happy that you enjoyed your stay and hope you’ll come back again!
Very spacious, everyone could visit across the house but also had their own space in the evenings to relax away from everyone. Kids loved the bunks. Fenced in yard was amazing. Neighborhood was very quiet. View was great. Communication with the owner was great, never felt like I was bothering them. Top notch family/pet friendly place if water access isn't a necessity.
It's rare you go to a place that's outshines the pictures but this property is one of those. The owners were very attentive and made everything very easy. Highly recommend!

Thank you for reviewing our property. It was a pleasure hosting you and your guests.
It was a great place to stay. We just had a few issues: one couldn’t be avoided as large upstairs fan broke the week before and couldn’t keep it cooled enough. Previous renters left food, candy wrappers under bunk bed mattresses and ants were all over. Otherwise, we enjoyed the home and yard.

Yes, the receiver on a ceiling fan went out due to a power surge. We have the part and will have it fixed before our next rental. However, just to put this in perspective, it was 96 degrees outside. The temperature upstairs (during the hottest part of the day) only reached 76 degrees (a 18 degree split). The normal split range is between 18 and 22 degrees. At 6:41 pm on Saturday, the upstairs temp was 69 and downstairs was 68. Very cold every evening until late afternoon the following day. The a/c units performed exceptionally well despite the broken ceiling fan and high outside temperatures.
The candy wrappers and ants are never acceptable. The exterminator has been called and housekeeping has been made aware of the oversight.
Thank you!
We all loved the barndominium, the open concept space was perfect for a family gathering and the safety of the fenced in yard was ideal for the pups. A+!

Hi Julie,
Thank you for taking time to review our property. I’m happy that you all had a good time! It is what we always hope to hear from our guests!!!
We had a wonderful time. 13 adults enjoying an annual vacation together. The house was spacious and comfortable with wonderful views. Very peaceful. Kitchen was big and well stocked. Communication with host was perfect and very responsive. Our only suggestion is better quality bedding. The beds, pillows and bedding had seen a lot of use and did not match the overall high quality of this lovely home and property.
Great place for a larger group. If you have dogs, this location is made for dog people…and their dogs. Everyone enjoyed and had fun. Easy to locate and quick communication. We would definitely recommend!

Thank you very much for reviewing our property! We’re happy you had a great time.
The house is exactly what you see in the photos. Very nice for a large group. The firepit and pool table were great for the teens. The only drawback was no access to the lake but the house and hot tub made up for it.
We took a multigenerational family vacation. There was something for everyone at this spot. The teenager who thought it would be boring had a great time. The octogenarians had fun. The place is well appointed with things to do inside and outside.

We had a great time this weekend. The place was clean and plenty space for us. We cooked crawfish, used the grill, and went fishing on the weekend. There was plenty room for our group of 10. Beautiful view of the lake and quick access to a boat launch. The hosts were excellent communicators, checking in before during and after our trip. Would stay again!

We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Bardomenium over Memorial Day weekend! With 14 of us under one roof, we never once felt cramped—there’s so much room in the house that everyone had space to relax and enjoy. The kitchen was a standout—extremely well-stocked with everything we needed to cook meals for our big group (pots, pans, utensils—you name it, it was there!).The hot tub was a total hit and became the go-to spot for winding down each night. The views from the property were beautiful, adding to the peaceful and scenic vibe of the whole trip. And to top it off, communication with the owners was fast, clear, and super helpful from start to finish. Our family had the best time and would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend!

My husband, Tracy, and I were born and raised in New Orleans and relocated to Texas in 2005. After purchasing property on Toledo Bend Lake in 2015, we began construction of our 5 bedroom lake house, now known as Cliffside Barndominium, was completed in 2017. We have been blessed with 3 children, 5 wonderful grandchildren, and 2 terrific dogs, rescues from the neighborhood!
Why they chose this property
Originally from South Louisiana, we have always loved living close to the water. We searched for waterfront property that offered great fishing, water sports for the kids, scenic shorelines, and breathtaking views. Without a doubt, Toledo Bend was the perfect spot. We are located on a bluff, directly above the Sabine River on the 'Chicken Coop', a deepwater section of the river that is famous for great cool weather crappie fishing . Toledo Bend reservoir is ranked nationally as having some of the best year-round bass fishing in the United States. As an added bonus, the panoramic views from our covered deck allow us to see the western border of Louisiana, our home state.
What makes this property unique
The bluff overlooks the lake and offers privacy from boat traffic and spectacular evening sunsets . Toledo Bend Reservoir is a nationally known bass fishing lake, and numerous tournaments are held here each year. For wildlife enthusiasts, bald eagles nest nearby and provide quite a spectacle when perched in the pine trees that line the bluff. Fox, red headed woodpeckers, cardinals, black squirrels, ducks, and deer are among many species of wildlife that are very common in the area. East Texas is also part of the central flyway for multiple species of neotropical migratory birds including songbirds, hawks, and shorebirds.
