About this property
Easy Drive to the Finger Lakes; Small Town with Big Hospital
What you will love about this home:
This old house built in the late 19th century has been restored to some of its original charm and updated with all modern amenities, including light-canceling shades in the bedroom. The upstairs suite of rooms is for the temporary traveler: Bedroom with queen bed, spacious closet and chest of drawers, tabletop air purifier, bathroom with shower/tub, double sinks; Separate Studio with small fridge/freezer, microwave, multi-temperature filtered water dispenser, toaster oven/air fryer, sofabed, work desk and rolling chair, tabletop air purifier, TV with antenna). Park in the driveway, let yourself into the vestibule (with half-door leading to the owners' downstairs unit), and go directly upstairs to your private spaces. Only the laundry room is downstairs. Guests are free to use the printer and hand vacuum at the entrance to the owners' office.
What you will love about this neighborhood:
Athens, Pennsylvania, is no tourist destination, but it's a quiet and safe residential area with commercial very nearby. One of the biggest employers is a hospital with a Level One Trauma Center. In 40 minutes you're seeing waterfalls and mountainscapes, glorious farmlands and Finger Lakes. In 3.5 hours driving, you're in NYC. Six hours to Montreal.

About the host
Hosted by Rox and Michael
Originally from New Orleans, hospitality is in my blood. Michael and I have been living in Chicago for decades and only recently started exploring the Endless Mountains and Finger Lakes Region. We've been hosting in the share economy for more than a dozen years and love being able to assure visitors of a pleasurable time while away from home. We have two dogs who feel the same way! They'll beg for attention, but you are under no obligation to interact with any of the occupants of the downstairs unit as you come and go. We're always available for a chat, but there's no pressure either way.
Why they chose this property
We chose Athens, Pennsylvania, first of all because of its proximity to New York. But the more we discover about this little enclave (one of the four towns on the NY/PA border that make up "The Valley"), the more we're pleased with its combination of rural life and easy access to commercial conveniences. We never had a backyard in Chicago, so our two black mutts prefer it here (or so we believe).
What makes this property unique
We hope the care we've taken to create a sweet living space will be meaningful in specific ways to each individual we have the privilege of hosting.
