About this property
Celtic Glen Farm Stay - Mini Log Cabin
12x14, off-grid log cabin with platform for your sleeping bags or air mattress (2 singles or 1 queen), bistro table, fire ring outside. You can add a tent to site to add more sleeping space. Drive in to unload and load then park at street entrance. Porta-potty and hand washing station nearby along with a large communal fire ring (over 18 acres there are 8 campsites), charcoal grill, and picnic table. Contact us in advance for extras such as firewood, personal grill, additional cots or cot pads, charcoal, personal camping potty.
Celtic Glen is a working, family farm of heritage breed livestock, nestled in an old limestone quarry on the banks of the White River, on one side, and Fall Creek, on another. Learn about regenerative farming with rare breeds on a farm tour, or mining and wetlands restoration on an ecological history tour. Pet and feed the livestock. Fish and bird-watch. Take a yoga class (at times with goats or bunnies) in the center of the stone henge. Have coffee with goats. Contact us in advance for these activities and to eat farm craft meats, eggs, prepared soups, casseroles, and baked goods, or hop into town for a bite.
We are across the river from McCormick's Creek State Park (Indiana's first state park with miles of trails, a swimming pool, horseback riding, and lodge) and just two miles north of Spencer, a small town with an excellent brew pub, winery, cafe, and more. Just 12 miles north of the farm is Cataract Falls State Recreation Area. We are only 20 minutes from Bloomington and Indiana University; 45 minutes from Indianapolis Int'l Airport.
This is a working farm with lots of livestock, electric fences, and working dogs, so please leave the farm animals alone unless someone from the farm is available and present. Dogs must be on a leash in the camping area. Given the above features of a working livestock farm, the quarry ruins, the operative railroad tracks, and the river (not suitable for swimming), children under the age of 18 must be attended by adults at all times.
Nearby fun and food:

Owen Valley Winery –good food as well (often free live music)

McCormick’s Creek State Park: Canyon Inn for dining, lots of trails, pool in the summer, horse stables
Cataract Falls State Recreation Area just north off 231 –really lovely waterfall (13 miles)

Disliked: Listing accuracy
Very remote cabin, no other campers the night we stayed-very remote. No water near by-pack in water, extra water. The property was beautiful and large. The listing makes it sound way more informal than the owner intends. Make sure to ask ahead to view the livestock. I wasn’t sure how to access the breakfast thats listed. Couldn’t find the water front view that is listed. The process for getting firewood and water could be better especially since you can’t take firewood in. More signage would be helpful. If you’re looking for middle of no where camping this is it! I would camp here again but I’d ask for clearer instructions/rules for finding trails, White River access, obtaining water and firewood.

We send campers this information in advance of their stay and ask whether they will be wanting firewood, food, and so on. We like to have everything ready and waiting in advance and we prepare the food fresh for each guest. This camper did not respond and arrived quite late their first night. We provide a map of the farm. Our top priority as a working farm is to keep our guests safe and these campers had a hard time respecting those guidelines; even after we talked with them in person, they continued to expect that they could enter any area. They did not let us know that they needed to refill water jugs so we did not have even have a chance to assist them. Rather than a standard campground, this is a special place where campers can have acres and acres to themselves and enjoy being on a regenerative working farm. Good communication goes a long way!
Nice quiet few days to get away from the chaos of the city.

Why Stonehenge? Why not - it fits this log cabin perfectly, unique and peaceful. However, the property description did not make clear that this cabin has no electricity or running water. The "1 bathroom" is actually a port-a-potty, and the bed is a bare metal cot. You need to bring your camping gear - sleeping bag, pillows, mattress, battery operated light... in order to enjoy this cabin. And it's worth it!

I had a wonderful one-some five days. Did plenty of hiking and visiting the parks and areas. Perfect! The cabin was what a cabin is, small, log-house without electricity nor water. Not a problem at all! Very cosy and cleaner inside than outside. However - It was not very clear to me in the ads that we have to bring full camping gear, which I did just to be sure. But not everyone would do that, and be surprised.THANK YOU to the lady who came with candles and toiet paper.SUGGESTIONS:Better pre-information.When inviting to "Coffee with t he goats", why not keep the gate open. I - for one - am not ready to fight with pad locks and chains to get in, so I continued.ADVISE:Chair leg is broken (inside)Camping chairs in dire need of help..Shower dirty and zipper not workingToilet smells, and the flushing fluid like old urin.Sitting outside on the veranda to enjoy a meal, you have the stench of the toilet streaming over your dinner plate and in your face!!! Also other campers using it during your meal! IT SHOULD BE MOVED!Best regards, Berit Skaare, berit.iop98@gmail.com

So glad you stayed with us, Berit! Thank you for alerting us to the items that need repair. We are going to follow your advice and move the toilet and washing station further away across the lane. As I explained before you arrived, the flushing porta potty does flush with strained waste water. There are no padlocks on the farm gate but rather, it is fastened with looped chain --this is a working farm and safety for people and animals is paramount. You were welcome to enter, or had you texted, we would have met you at the gate. Before you arrived, in our email exchange, I drew your attention to the published information that makes the nature of the facilities clear along with potential add-ons such as bedding, cooking items --guests can add on most everything they might want. I am glad you had a wonderful time and hope you will come see us again.
