On the Kona side, safe and away from the volcanic activity, the Cottage awaits you.

The perfect, peaceful getaway for those on a honeymoon or looking for a relaxing, romantic experience. This warm, welcoming, newly-built and finely crafted studio cottage provides modern comfort while retaining the spirit of old Hawaii. This mountain paradise is surrounded by native trees and a tropical garden. The Cottage at Ohia Place is situated in North Kona, at a cool 1600' elevation on Mount Hualala'i in Kaloko Mauka.

The cottage is in close proximity to Kailua Kona village, shopping, restaurants, beaches, activities, the harbor, hiking trails and upcountry golf courses. The airport is 15 minutes away. Your host, Gale, lives on the 1.5 acres shared with the Cottage.

The accommodation features open beam wood ceilings, ohia hardwood floors, mahogany and granite kitchen, brand-new queen -sized bed (with a Memory Foam topper), large slate shower, fully equipped kitchen and a lovely lanai that enhances the inside/outside lifestyle of Hawaii.

The cottage is 720 sq feet under roof, including the lanai.

Your host will provide you with details about the many island activities, tours, sight-seeing, beaches and cultural experiences as well as shopping and restaurants, all within an easy driving distance from your home.

Born and raised in Kona, the host's father was one of the founders of the sports fishing business in Kona in the early 50s; she and her family remain closely involved with the fishing community. She has spent her professional life welcoming guests and connecting them to the rich traditions of the islands. We love the island of Hawaii: the vastness, the colorful and unique local customs, the sunshine and sunsets of the Kona Coast, and the hunting and fishing traditions of the Big Island.

A vintage picnic basket is available for your pleasure. If you're headed out to explore the island. You are welcome to use a cold bag for shopping, cooler, beach chairs and towels.

Of course it's 10 out of 10!

I always wondered what makes a VRBO rental get an excellent score of a perfect 10, and now I know! Gale is an INCREDIBLE hostess and is a treasure trove of knowledge about the island. Our first day she brought us fresh fruit and banana bread, which was quite delicious and so sweet of her. The cottage has everything you would hope to have in a vacation rental and also things you didn't even know you wanted! Seriously, I cannot think of one thing we needed that wasn't provided. It is quiet and serene, the lanai is the perfect way to start the morning, the bath robes for the outdoor shower were amazing, I could go on and on... Everything was clean and well taken care of. We told her that we would recommend her place to anyone we know that is traveling to Hawaii. We hope to return one day! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Excellent relaxed getaway

We had a fantastic time in Hawaii and this cottage was the perfect place to unwind...beautiful house, beautiful landscape...peaceful and serene. Gale was very hospitable. She made us banana bread, left us a few local treats, and always made us feel welcome.

Perfection!

Fabulous cottage getaway tucked on the hillside overlooking Kona. Easy access to outdoor activities, with solitude and comfort awaiting at the cottage at the end of the day. Gorgeous property, well stocked kitchen, comfy bed and a wonderful host.

Best Rental on the Big Island

This cottage is one of the best rental properties that we have stayed in. Gale was a fantastic host, quick to respond to messages, detailed at check-in and provided a loaf of amazing banana bread, which was appreciated after a long travel day. The kitchen had everything we could have needed and a great gas grill. The size was perfect for us for nine nights. The early mornings and evenings were cool on the hillside, which quickly cooled down the cottage. Being close to Palani Road/Hawaii Belt allowed us to avoid the Queen K to get into Kona quickly. I would absolutely rent this VRBO again for a future trip to the Big Island.

Absolutely perfect

The property was beautiful and had everything we could have needed. Gale was very helpful during check in and throughout our stay. She was very open to giving suggestions and answering our questions promptly. We did a lot of adventuring during the days but this place is definitely somewhere that you could just hang out all day and relax if you wanted. We are very happy that we chose to stay at Gale’s property.

Amazing lanai and well appointed cottage

Loved our stay at Gale’s. Super private and amazing views. This is our favorite area to stay on the island because it’s convenient to everything but also tucked away and completely private. Enjoyed all our breakfasts on the lanai and a few dinners watching the sunset. The cottage is so well appointed and luxurious feeling this will definitely feel like a vacation away from home. Stocked with everything you need and all the details (just note there is no dishwasher or oven - no problem for us) and the WiFi is a tad on the slow side (again no problem for us since we didn’t have to do any work) 100% would recommend and will come back if we have the chance to!

Cottage of your dreams

This is an amazing property. The cottage is beautifully constructed with very high-end materials and finishes, and decorated with an artists eye. Gale greeted us with a bowl of fresh fruit and warm, homemade banana bread. Nothing has been overlooked by way of amenities. A lanai the length of the cottage overlooks a gorgeous garden of native plantings and views clear down to the ocean. All Kona coast activities and restaurants require driving. By far the loveliest place we have ever stayed.

Outstanding Property for a phenomenal couple's getaway

My wife and I have stayed in many different vacation rentals all around the world and this is one of the best!!! This hillside cottage is away from the bustle of Kailua-Kona but only a 5-to-10-minute drive from shopping, coffee and the Airport. We heard nor saw traffic, day or night, but you will hear plenty of nature. The cottage itself is immaculate, well maintained and has all the required comfort conveniences, coffee makers, microwave, awesome toaster oven, gas cooktop and all dishes and utensils to match. High speed internet is awesome, and the bed is extremely comfortable. Gale is a great host, met us late, worked with our departure time and gave us great advice on where to go and what to see. I highly recommend this as one of the best rentals for 2 on the Big Island!!!

Cottage on slope

This was a beautiful well appointed and decorated cottage. Gale our host was exceptional offering homemade banana bread and asst fruits. She had suggestions to our questions about the area and offered assistance should we need at any time. The property is filled with gorgeous plants and even had geckos, tree frogs and lots of birds. All activities are a short drive away. Gale has thought of everything you might need for living at the cottage, even beach towels a cooler and chairs if headed to the beach! I highly recommend this property! Thank you Gale!!

It's just as beautiful as the pictures

We had the most amazing time here. Gale is an amazing host, and her banana bread is indeed fabulous. She even let us check out *super* late on our last day. The cottage was extremely well appointed (the washer and dryer was especially well appreciated). She has thought of pretty much everything - supplies for the beach, reef-safe sunscreen, coffee and fruit when you arrive, etc. The only tiny thing I would mention is that the cottage has no AC. But even for someone like me who runs hot, we had no issues at all with the temperature (staying in late October probably helped a lot). There is a nice breeze that runs through the cottage. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you so much Gale!

It would be easy to get carried away after such an excellent experience, but I'll try to contain myself: This is the kind of property and host I hope for every time I book, and my first truly 5-star experience in several years, anywhere in the world and via any booking platform. If I return to Kona, I'm calling Gale as soon as I have dates. As host, she is generous, professional, and considerate. I have immense admiration for her thoughtful, intentional curation of space and feel. The kitchen is exactly what's needed and as described, immaculately equipped. Access is easy and secure, <15 min from Kona. It's private but has views of the endless Pacific. The home is elevated from the heat of Kona, so afternoons are cool and temperate, with frequent, meditative rain in the afternoon. The windows never need closing. The frogs and crickets are magical nighttime sleep aids. Laundry! An elegant, spacious indoor shower, and its outdoor complement! The lanai was actually hard to leave even for planned adventures -- a perfect place to read, talk, or eat. My wife and I are grateful and already wistful thinking of our time here, which was the unquestionable highlight of an excellent vacation.

Beautifully Elegant and Peaceful

This studio cottage is elegant in every way. Our host greeted us with aloha hospitality. She gave us a tour of the cottage inside and out. She thinks of everything. My husband and I found fresh cut flowers, kona coffee, and "to die for" banana bread awaiting us upon our arrival. The kitchen is not only stocked with every tool imaginable for cooking, but also everything we needed for picnicking including, coolers, coffee travel mugs, paper plates, etc.. A real plus is the HE washer & dryer. The bathroom is sophisticated with an extremely large shower with body soap, shampoo, and conditioner provided. (There's even a private outdoor shower equipped with lighting for evening showers.) The main room has a lovely couch set across from a very comfy bed. The cottage has fast WiFi. The location is wonderfully quiet. We sat out on the lanai everyday for our breakfast while we looked out at the ocean and town below, which is only about a ten minute drive. I must say, I am a clean freak, and this cottage is cleaner than my home. It's pristine condition shows the love our host has for this cottage. It's spotless! She lives nearby, but respected our privacy. However, she was always cell-phone accessible. One last thing. I do yoga everyday. And yes, there is a beautiful (and clean) yoga mat. We have traveled all over the world, and this cottage is the best, yes the best, holiday rental we have ever stayed at. I have already recommended the cottage to two of our friends.

The cottage was everything we hoped for and more. The cottage was beautifully decorated with many fresh bouquets of plants and flowers. The garden was enchanting. Gale the Host was thoughtful and kind. She greeted us with homemade applebanana bread, a bowl of fresh homegrown papaya, lemon applebanana, and lime. Gale gave us a tour of the entire property and gracious throughout our stay.

Magnificent Cottage in coffee country

Prestine cottage on a manicure landscape, with full luxurious amenities. Perfect romantic get away.Great location to get around the island.I our host Gale, greeted us as we arrived and gave us a full rundown of her cottage.Everything was picture perfect and we made lasting memories on our visit to the Big Island.
