The home is filled with amenities and surrounded by panoramic views of the Appalachian Mountains and the Lost River Valley. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a place to spend time with a small group of friends or family, Idlewild will provide the perfect backdrop for your West Virginia escape. Pricing: There is a $50/person/night for groups larger than 4 people. The rate also includes WV Sales Tax, our $125 cleaning fee and the increasing fees VRBO charges for the use of its service.

Each bedroom has its own character with en suite full baths and sliding glass doors to outside decks that overlook stunning vistas and wildlife. Wooden decks wrap around the upper and lower floors, with an enclosed screened-in porch on each level. Adirondack, lounge and rocking chairs surround the house - providing ample room to read, bird watch or relax. While the house is spacious, the upstairs is cozy and perfect for couples looking for a mountain getaway. A modern, fully-equipped, luxury kitchen and gas grill provide the tools for wonderful meals. We have a hot tub located in a covered deck with incredible views! Everything you could want for a memorable retreat!

There is a wood burning fireplace in the great room, firewood provided. In cooler months enjoy the hot tub on the lower, enclosed deck. A firepit/deck in back of property can be enjoyed year round and is a great way to take in the extraordinary stars and invigorating mountain air. We have high speed internet. A music player for CDs and iPods. The house is near some great hikes in the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, and can serve as a hub for either exploring wild and wonderful West Virginia or serving as a retreat for relaxing, meditation and taking in the Lost River Valley's natural beauty.

Anniversary Weekend

We were looking for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. This property provided everything we were looking for in a relaxing weekend. The house has everything you need with an amazing view. We mentioned this was going to be an anniversary getaway and a bottle of wine was left for us. Such a thoughtful gesture. We loved this house so much we are planning another trip to stay here. The owners provide you with a lot of information about the surround area and amenities. Everything about this rental was seamless. and a bottle of wine was waiting for us

Awesome Week with Family

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin in the WV mountains. We enjoyed many family excursions (walks, swimming, picnics, shopping, watching wildlife and much more) in the Lost City area. It was a truly amazing week. Our hosts were amazing as well as their property manager.

Fun girls trip with Breathtaking views

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful house. It has breathtaking views that overlook the valley and mountains; the sunsets each day were amazing! The house was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals each day. Firewood was provided for the inside fireplace as well as the fire-pit, The fire-pit was located on a platform with ample seating, This house is so lovely. The host Jennifer was very responsive and provided a ton of helpful information in the welcome binder, I look forward to bringing my family here for a relaxing weekend as well as another girls trip.

Tranquil Cabin with Amazing Views

My wife and I stayed at this cabin for our honeymoon. It was everything we dreamed of and more! The cabin was very clean, and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed (I was especially thrilled to see a french press!). We loved the outdoor space including the wrap around porches! We would love to return for a future stay.

Lovely cabin with an amazing view!

Our state was for a long weekend with our son and his wife and our daughter and her husband. We had a great stay. The cabin was beautiful and very well equipped. One small detail, one of the beds was very squeaky, and my daughter and her husband had to switch to another room. We had an extra room, so it was no problem. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area.

Stunning views, beautiful home.

We had a marvelous time at the Lost River Lodge. The house is built to perfection, made to enjoy the scenery. Everything was spotlessly clean, the kitchen is very well-equipped, everything in the house was in working order. It was a wonderful place to spend time relaxing with old friends. Thank you for opening your home to others, so that they can experience the beauty of the Lost River area.

What a great time!

In short, me and my wife were looking for a place to celebrate our 22nd Anniversary. Just happened to look on Vrbo site and saw this wonderful place. We contacted the owner and they responded within 30 minutes and accepted our request. It was a great place to relax and getaway. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the relaxed atmosphere, the views were spectacular. Hoping to be able to get back sometime soon.

Breathtaking View

The view will take your breath away whether looking on from inside the house or from one of the observation decks surrounding the home, with many places to sit inside and out, to take it all in. Ample bedrooms, bathrooms, stocked with towels, linens and some toiletries. Kitchen has all the essentials needed to cook or grill. Watching TV proved tricky for us connecting, so we opted to enjoy watching and staying warm by the fireplace as a snow storm came through bringing high winds. All in all, a very nice, peaceful getaway.

Clean home with a wonderful view!!

Our trip here was amazing!! I surprised my husband for his birthday by renting this house, and getting his family to meet us there! We had a blast! The house is spacious, each room having an exceptionally large bathroom.. huge kitchen for prepping and cooking meals but also spending time with everyone. We really liked the concept of no tv in common space upstairs.. gave everyone a chance to really socialize. The wrap around decks are amazing and the hot tub was an awesome touch. Really enjoyed our stay here, thank you Jennifer!

Perfect

Bill and Jennifer have a beautiful home, equipped with everything and then some. My husband and I enjoyed a weekend at Lost River (Idlewild) late March 2019. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine on the table. Jennifer has every home detail organized in the welcome binder. The house interior and exterior is immaculate including the hot tub! Don't hesitate to book here.

Breathtaking views

Our stay was exactly what we were hoping for! It was quiet, relaxing, and the views all around were gorgeous!! We used the hot tub but kept it cool so it was refreshing in the heat. This home has so much room! It is well appointed. We cooked our meals in the lovely large kitchen. We only stayed a weekend so it feels like we didn’t get to really enjoy all the spaces and amenities the house offers. If you are looking for quiet solitude in a big, beautiful home with fabulous sunsets you must visit! I would absolutely return!

Great Stay / Great House / AMAZING VIEW!

We just stayed here for the long Columbus day weekend! Leading up to our stay the owners were very helpful and gave us tons of extremely useful information for our stay and bout the house and surrounding areas. They were very responsive in the booking process and any questions we had. Once we got there the place was extremely clean!! AND beautiful! Tons of room - There were 3 couples and a friend and there was TONS of room (7 people total)! It had a great porch and really nice large hot tub and the fire pit was great! The best part was the view it was breathtaking. I would say this house has one of the best spots for a view in the area! The only thing we would have changed is we would have stayed there longer! :-) We had a very nice relaxing stay and looking forward to going back.

Mountain Bliss

This is a fantastic house overlooking a valley with addional mountains in the distance. Although there are other properties close by, it feels relatively secluded, especially with the wrap around porches on both levels. Hard to decide which level was the more relaxing. The first level has a hammock and the hot tub which is well situated to watch a beautiful sunset. The second floor is where the big open floor plan allows for plenty of space and the deck has a lounge where relaxing with friends as night falls was awesome. Sunsets are great up there as well....but no hot tub!!!! Loved the kitchen with the huge island and, after a brief rain spell one evening, opening the doors and windows allowed a best breeze the cross through. We didnt even need the a/c. Watching the clouds roll in and then the mist rise felt mystical. Definitely a space for retreat and refocus. Hopefully we come back and actually get out of the house, but it was so comfortanle!

Amazing home in Lost River

We booked Jennifer and Bill's beautiful, stunning Lost River home for my husband's 50th birthday weekend plus a group bike ride event. The house was beyond expectations, great kitchen and open spaces, full wrap around decks on both floors with incredible views, hot tub bonus, spacious well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. The only regret was not using the fire pit outside only because we ran out of time. We had small children in our group and it was really perfect for kids too (as long as you bring a baby gate for the top of the stairs). Jennifer was gracious, welcoming and accommodating, quick to respond to any and all questions via email. We will be back and recommend this property highly. It truly was amazing, thank you Jennifer and Bill!

Church Girl’s Trip

We loved the property! It was absolutely gorgeous, the hot tub was amazing along with the porches! Our only concerns were that the property wasn’t very clean. Completely understand it being in the mountains and having dust, but the countertops were very sticky, almost as if they hadn’t been wiped, there were cobwebs in the corners of the showers, as if they hadn’t been used in a while, and the banister for the stairs in the kitchen had a layer of dust resting on it. There is a light bulb out right near the sink in the kitchen and the bedroom downstairs closest to the grill had some bent bed legs and there was some trash and a sock left under the bed. There was also a section of screen missing in the hot tub space. We overall loved the place and would love to visit again sometime, whether with our family or a girls trip again! Thank you so much!!

The amazing photos are no exaggeration

Sometimes the pictures rental properties post seem too good to be true. But this place is indeed amazing! We were a group of seven ladies looking for a relaxing getaway and we received one. The home is beautiful, clean, secluded and quiet, and the wrap-around porches are perfect for lounging. The open floor plan on the second level was great for our bigger group, but also the home is big enough and has enough comfortable spaces for people to have privacy. The kitchen was stocked (although we couldn't find a tea kettle or oil for cooking, so come prepared), and even in May we were able to make good use of the fireplace. The water balance in the hot tub was off and we ended up not using it (there are instructions on how to test the water and adjust it to proper levels, but we couldn't get it right so we gave up). If the hot tub is a big selling point, I'd say be open to pay the fee for the property manager to handle it. The owner is also very responsive to email and accommodated our last-minute change in group number. Within an hour of arriving, one person in our group said "we should come here every year." I hesitate to leave such a glowing review in fear that this home will only get more booked up!
