About the host
Hosted by Jon
I am a marine engineer and naval officer currently sailing on freighters in the Great Lakes. My wife, Mary, and I live on a small fresh water lake in the small town of Newaygo in West Michigan. We enjoy travelling, in fact we met in Honduras.
Why they chose this property
The Scuttle-Inn is a relaxing setting on the picturesque Muskegon River. The property frames beautiful views of the river from every window and is only a short decent down the bank away. The river offers adventure with tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. For sportsmen, the Muskegon has a reputation as a great river for fly fishing. Steelhead and Salmon fishing in the spring and fall attract anglers from all over.
Mary and I purchased the property in 2021 and immediately dived into an in depth renovation project. Mary's intent with the design and decor is to provide a place that promotes relaxation and rest while quietly directing the guests to the property's main attraction, the river. The long driveway under towering sycamores in a quiet river neighborhood attracted us to the property. The location and the slow passing of the river creates a peaceful setting of calm and relaxation while at the same time exciting childlike adventure and the urge to explore. The river hosts a variety of wildlife often visible from the comforts of the living room and beckons you to "unplug" for just a little while.
We enjoy the serenity of this little place and hope our guests will too.

What makes this property unique
A deep setback for a very quiet dirt road and wide spaces in our property and the neighbors sets our property apart from most other waterfront vacation homes. This property is not a mother-in-law shed stuffed in the back yard. It is a full vacation home with privacy that stands alone on a beautiful river front.
