The begin with the owners were not around during the check-in process (I believe they had a family emergency) but we did finally find someone to get us access. The cabin was full of cobwebs and dead bugs everywhere (this is expected somewhat since it's a cabin but this was more than just a few). Overall the cabin was in pretty good shape which was the biggest thing for us. The entire grounds were NOTHING like the photos (old photos) and needed to be mowed / weeded very badly. Everything was run down or broken from years of wear and tear. The outdoor living area was probably the most disappointing. We were excited to hang out with our friends in this area from the pictures, but it was so run down with weeds growing out of the corn holes and the boards were warped. There were small amounts of trash all over the property and overflowing trash cans. We thought about running a load of laundry, but the laundry room was a bit messy. The absolute best part was going down and hanging out by the river. The hosts did come over to meet us on our second night and introduced themselves. They did assist in getting us a refund for part of the stay and hassle. The hosts were very nice and seemed like they really did care about us feeling welcome. Maybe once they complete the renovations and get the place cleaned up and back to looking like the photos it will be great. Lastly, when we were taking out the trash the morning we were leaving we found a dead mouse in the bottom of our trash can.

As explained to you during your stay, we had an issue with the VRBO bookings and weren’t aware we had a third cabin coming that weekend, as your specific booking did not show as a reservation until after we contacted VRBO, or you would have gotten detailed check in instructions and a door code that morning. As for no one being there to greet you, we switched to the VRBO platform specifically for that hands off approach. Many times with VRBO and AirBNB you will never meet your hosts. We also explained that we broke our push mower, which is the only way we have to mow. We mow the entire grounds ourselves with that push mower. You were also upset that one of your children touched poison ivy that had been sprayed with weed killer. We are in the country, we cannot control where poison ivy grows and we had already taken steps to eradicate it. I checked that cabin myself at 8am and there were no bugs and cobwebs. Yes, due to our location we struggle with pill bugs and centipedes, and every time the door opens it seems they come inside. I personally bug bomb the cabins weekly. As for the mouse, we do put out traps but we cannot use poison as we are a dog friendly establishment. Given our location, it is something that happens from time to time. We do what we can without potentially harming our furry guests. We all work full time jobs on top of the campground to make ends meet, we work our regular hours and many times we are coming home and working late into the night doing what we can on the grounds, we often work 16 hour days all week to prepare for guests. You also forgot to mention that your host quickly mailed you important things that you left behind. The barstool you included in your photo was left out in the rain by a guest. The cornhole boards were left out in the rain by guests. Our ping pong paddles were also destroyed by guests. I have to buy new TV remotes every weekend because they also seem to grow legs, along with our dishes and coffee pots. I apologize for the state of the staff laundry room. We had every cabin booked the weekend before, and we are down to two working washing machines because they have also been abused by guests. The laundry had not been folded yet. We do our best to keep up on the trash, we have no control over the raccoons and where they scatter things, and honestly there’s a lot of people that also just throw their trash around. We gave you a 50% refund that you didn’t ask for. In fact, you told us we definitely didn’t have to do that, you were fine and understood. You were also hateful to our staff when they offered to take your trash away and brought new bags around. We have put blood, sweat, many tears, and everything we have into trying to share our beautiful property with others. Unfortunately, sometimes things don’t go as planned. I guess this just goes to show we cannot make everyone happy, even though we did everything within our power to rectify the situation.
