About this property

Loon's Nest Cabin on Lower Long Lake

Welcome to Loon’s Nest Cabin on Lower Long Lake. The Cabin is located on a secluded, beautifully forested, peninsula that juts out into the middle of Lower Long Lake. The Cabin is perched atop a hill giving it views to the East for sunrises over the lake, and West for sunsets over the lake. The Cabin was built in 1948, and while it has been modernized over the years, it still retains its classic Northern Wisconsin Cabin Feel with an all wood interior and fieldstone fireplace. The Cabin has been in our family for over five decades and is a special place where we learned to swim, play cards with our grandmother, and fish with our grandfather. The Cabin interior features a full kitchen, breakfast nook, great room with lofted ceiling, family room, sun porch, large outdoor deck, 1.5 bathrooms, two bedrooms each with a king bed, and a large lofted bedroom perfect for kids with five beds. The Cabin exterior features a large lawn perfect for games, two separate sets of docks (we used one for swimming and one for boats), a pickle ball court, screened-in gazebo, a lakeside patio with fire pit (need burn permits), propane grill, and is surrounded by forests on all sides.

****The Cabin does not have air conditioning****

Lower Long Lake is an over 1100 acres will several large open areas of water perfect for water sports. Fish available to catch in this lake are Walleye, Musky, Bass, Northern Pike, and Panfish.

4th of July getaway!

We had an amazing 4th of July at Loon's nest. The pontoon boat was perfect for the water days. Great lake and great cabin!

We loved our family trip to the Loon's Nest Cabin on Long Lake. The rustic decor of the cabin set the tone for our "Lake Life" vacation which included amazing lake views from both the cabin and a large expansive back lawn and dock overlooking the lake. Many of our days started with the sounds and spotting of Loons on the lake. Every day was filled with hours of swimming in the shallow portions of the lake, jumping off of the raft in the deeper waters and fishing off the dock while capturing the sunset. We had a leisurely day strolling on the lake on the pontoon which is readily available to rent as needed. Since WI weather is unpredictable and we had a schedule free life at the cabin we appreciated the flexibility for boat access as deemed appropriate in real time. The cabin may be a little challenging for an elderly individual with physical limitations as sleeping quarters and bathrooms were on different levels from the kitchen/family room and the bathroom is narrow. This did not impact our family and we had a perfect week of R&R. We had wonderful communication with owner who was eager to help us feel at home. The owner provided us with detailed information on the cabin prior to check in which helped make preparation and checkin seamless. We cannot wait to return.

Wonderful stay! Lovely cabin on Long Lake. Comfortable beds, nice towels, nice cookware. Great layout with screened in porch and great deck looks over the lake. Swimming platform, pickle ball court, pontoon to fish and explore lake all well used by our family as well as great old board games at night. Host was great at communications and gave helpful suggestions. Would highly recommend!

Loon’s Nest is a delightful family lake retreat!

We recently had a wonderful week long stay at the Loons Nest! We were especially appreciative of the ease of communicating w/its host - very attentive and answered questions/any issues were dealt with promptly. This cabin is beautifully situated high on an isthmus, having two docks and pretty views from the cabin’s sunroom and kitchen dining area. We lucked out with the weather, however if a/c is important for you, please note that only the upper loft w/5 beds is air conditioned. The Bedding and mattresses are comfy - plenty of bath and beach towels. The kitchen is well appointed, with newer fridge and dishwasher - very convenient! The vintage stove/microwave is fully functional and fun to use!The waterfront area is comfortable w/ample room on the dock. We loved to watch the sunset from the seating area just above the dock. Long Lake is the MOST beautiful lake to swim in and you will hear and see the loons often! :) We did use the pontoon one day and really enjoyed that as well - it worked just as it should :) Thank YOU Dan for allowing us to stay at your beautiful cabin!
