About this property

HOME RUN - Experience Year-Round Bliss at our Bear Valley Ski Retreat!

Important notes to potential guests:
*Getting around in winter requires riding in snowmobile trailers (no suspension), skiing and walking on snowy roads. Lifting bags, dogs, kids, etc. into and out of a trailer with waist high sides will be necessary. This has been challenging for anyone with strength or mobility issues. Staying with us in the summer is a great way to enjoy this space without the challenges that come with winter access.

**New Ownership, new cleaning staff, extensive rebuild of the deck.

***We will be using the downstairs apartment from time to time, as we also enjoy skiing and playing in the mountains. This is a separate space from upstairs with a separate entry. You might see us walk by on the deck.

-Bear Valley Ski Resort (Village Cabin)
-Located on Home Run ski run
-Brominated/chlorinated jacuzzi
-Recently rebuilt and expanded deck (Summer, 2023)
-New cleaning staff
-Amenities listed at the end
-Dogs allowed (please walk them off the deck for pee and poo)

Nestled in the woods, walking distance from Bear Lake beach in the summer and offering ski-in/ski-out access in the winter, our charming cabin is the perfect year-round escape. Designed with comfort and convenience in mind, this two-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom haven offers the amenities you need for a relaxing and memorable stay.

Step inside to find a well appointed kitchen with a breakfast bar, perfect for morning coffee or quick meals. The large dining room table seats 10, inviting you to gather for meals and game nights with friends and family. The spacious family room, complete with a wood-burning fireplace, games, books, and records, is ideal for cozy evenings in. An additional upstairs living space provides a tranquil spot to unwind or can serve as an extra sleeping area with two single guests.

Each bedroom is appointed with plush beds, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of adventure. Our full bath is thoughtfully designed with separate zones, allowing multiple guests to use it simultaneously in comfort and privacy.

Outside, our newly expanded 600 square foot, 280-degree wrap-around deck offers spectacular panoramic views. One side of the deck features a Jacuzzi, perfect for soaking under the stars, while the other side provides ample space for outdoor dining and socializing in any season.

During the winter months, the cabin’s location directly on the Home Run ski run means you can ski straight to your door after a day on the slopes. All roads are groomed, offering a seamless ski-in/ski-out experience. For added convenience, a Snow Taxi service is available to transport your gear to the cabin.

Immerse yourself in the charm of a European Ski Chalet-style village, where a welcoming local community and a variety of activities await. Whether you're here to enjoy the sun and sand in the summer or the thrill of the slopes in the winter, our cabin is the perfect base for your Bear Valley adventure.

Fantastic cabin with super helpful owner

We enjoyed a wonderful mini-vacation at this beautifully furnished and decorated cabin located at such a scenic spot. Terry, the owner, was super helpful in answering the many questions we had before and during our stay.

A little slice of heaven!

This was our 3rd stay at this property and we still pinch ourselves every time we are here! Its such a special spot, very cozy and has everything we need (we especially love snow play followed by relaxing in the hot tub!) The property manager Bob was very responsive to all our questions and very kind. We can't recommend this property enough!

Lots of snowy fun!

We had a ton of fun in the snow at Sullivan's "Home Run"! Downhill skiing at BV Mountain is a quick 3-mile drive (or shuttle bus ride) away. Lots of sledding, snowmobiling, & cross country skiing opportunities right from the front door. We also enjoyed our family dinners & fireplace hangouts. The only bummer is that the hot tub was not working (under several feet of accumulated snow & ice) & same for one of the snowmobiles, but to be fair, Terry told us ahead of time. Perfect for 2 small families w/upstairs & downstairs en suite bedrooms. Note: the upstairs bathroom has no shower or tub. Nice big dining table for 10 ppl.

Snow mobile cruise

We had a great time. The place was nice and had everything we needed. Hot tub was down but fixed quickly. We would prefer a tv in the family room area for cozy evening family movie but not a big deal. It was a nice home but not an updated home if that’s what you are expecting. We were afforded two snow mobiles and had a blast. The road and trails to great views. Snow shoes and sleds were fun. Bring your coffee and they have a grinder. Sheets, blankets, pillows, drawers, pots, pans all kind of hodgepodge but totally doable, just not upgraded. Good toaster and brita water filter was great. The owners were great at communicating and checked on us during our stay. I would definitely rent again.

Did not meet cleanliness expectations

Very dirty home that smelled like cat pee. There was so much trash and junk in the yard- broken furniture, broken snow toys, broken tools, and literal trash was all around the house. Decks are not functional at all and very dangerous to be on. We were surprised that the complaints in previous reviews (some from July 2021) have not yet been updated. I am reporting this property to VRBO. I would never stay here again.

Good location for winter activities

"Ski in/ski out" is quite accurate, but it doesn't mean you can ski down to a nearby Bear Valley lift and ride the mountain from there. It means you can cross country ski in and out on the snow packed village roads or use a snowmobile to ferry yourselves, belongings and provisions to the house about a half mile from the parking lot. My 2 adult sons and I loved it, but I'm not sure how my wife would have felt had she been along. The house is a quite comfortable and cozy cabin. We had the mixed blessing of a major snowfall just a few days before our arrival which meant that the ski conditions (we did both cross country and downhill) were great, but a PG&E outage during the blizzard and the amount of snow turned the hot tub into a giant ice cube and was therefore unavailable for our use. The hot shower and large fireplace made up for that pretty well though. WiFi, video and kitchen worked well.

Thanksgiving Break

We had a wonderful week at this property. There was snow on the ground (about 1-2ft). During the day (and it was late November) their were blue skies, and the sun was lovely and warm. At night, we were able to have log fires and were very warm. The property had very good central heating, plus a large stock of wood to use on the fire - which we really liked - as we have stayed in other properties where you had to buy and carry wood from the grocery store. The spa was also a big hit, beautiful location, very hot, and a great place to sit as the light faded. We had two big dogs with us, and this was a perfect place to use as a base for long walks in the snow. The sofa's had dog covers on them, which was very helpful too. There were a handful of games, which we enjoyed playing at night, and a cosy TV area upstairs, which we used once or twice. Getting Netflix on was a little fiddle, but worked. The only two minor issues we had were with the lock - which didn't work, and it took a while (2 days) to get hold of the property manager. We also had a mouse stealing some food at night, but we have lived in rural properties, so that was not a big problem. Overall, we loved our stay here. Nice property in a great location

Winter Wonderland

We had a wonderful stay at Terry’s house. It’s a beautiful house set up higher in the neighborhood and very peaceful, with stunning views. House was well stocked with towels, paper goods, firewood, games, cooking spices & oil, working appliances and great heating. Both beds were bad back friendly too. We arrived after a big snowstorm, so Bob the property manager, had lots of snow removal to do before we showed. Unfortunately, the house was not completely cleaned when we arrived which was a bummer, but cleaning supplies were readily on hand, so we helped vacuum, wipe down surfaces and clean the upstairs bathroom. We noticed some info discrepancies from what VRBO sent, regarding WiFi password and lock box code. Bob had all the info, so it wasn’t an issue, but maybe something to look into. Also number of bed descriptions could likely get updated too. The couch does not fold out into a bed downstairs. It’s a gorgeous and comfortable couch now with two automatic recliners. We enjoyed watching movies on this fancy couch. My kiddo wants to come back every weekend, to ski, sled, snowball fight, hot tub and play in the snow. We’d absolutely come every weekend if we could. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home and this special refuge in nature with us.

I would not recommend

The communication was not the best. When we booked the property we were not aware that it was not accessible by car and only by snowmobile. A thank you for booking my property introduction email from the owner would have been nice but it didn’t come until 5 days before our stay. We were very confused by the snowmobile access and thought we would use ours since we were here for the RMSHA race but once we realized our snowmobiles needed to be at the race site which was in the ski area we let the host know we did in fact need his snowmobile. This message was sent 5 days before we arrived. When we arrived the snowmobile was not where it was suppose to be. The transit center told us spot 262 had been empty for over a year. We were unable to get a hold of the caretaker Charli was very unresponsive. Terry told us to call her with an ETA. She did not answer any text or call from my husband and I for hours. We didn’t even get into the place until almost 7pm because we had no idea if it was ready or not. I had to call VRBO for assistance and Terry didn’t even answer them when they called. Unfortunately nothing else was available so the transit center loaned us a snowmobile with a trailer free of charge. Once we got into the place the heat didn’t work. Took until the next morning to get it working(kinda) shuts off every 10 minutes or so. There was no hot tub. If there was it was covered in snow. Multiple cats all over outside of the property. The place was dirty. Laundry in the washer that was wet. Laundry in the dryer not put away. Dust and dirt everywhere. I am even questioning if the sheets were washed. More then 1/2 of the outlets don’t work either. Heated floors in bathroom don’t work. You don’t need a code to enter property as the back door is unlocked… this place needs some TLC and a better house cleaner. Also electrical outlet in the downstairs bedroom off wall.

Love this place! We've come back to this rental several times over the years, though not in the past few. It's so good to see the TLC it's getting! Really liked the deck refurbishment, improvements inside (couch, TV, sliding doors). Easy check in now as well! Great communication from owner, very dog friendly, and a great place for summer Sierra fun.

About the host

Hosted by Javan Bryant

Host profile image
This cabin is hosted by a small group of friends that live in San Francisco. We wanted a place to call our own to unwind, hike, ski, snowboard, and fish! We hope that you enjoy the cabin as much as we do. We bought this property for our use, and we are happy to share it with others when we cannot get up there.

Why they chose this property

In the summer it is a perfect place to drive up, park, and spend all weekend biking around the village, hiking trails, and sailing/canoeing around the lake.

In the winter, we enjoy skiing down to the village and grabbing the shuttle to the ski resort. For lunch we ski straight home from the resort, eat, and ski back down the shuttle. At the end of the day, we ski home and have a soak in the hot tub.

It's pretty much everything I wanted in a cabin.

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is well cared for and our own home away from home. We keep it well-appointed because we use everything there. A lot of owners fill their rental with inexpensive throw-away furniture, but we strive to offer a warm, welcoming feel. Some of our favorite things are up there because we want to feel at-home when we visit instead of feeling like we are in a hotel. This warmth is there to greet our guests as well and we hope that our anyone who stays enjoys it as much as we do.
