About this property
Argyll House by Boutique Litchfield Escape Villa
Summary:
This beautifully renovated Cotswold-style estate, just two hours from New York City, blends European country charm with modern design elements. Featuring deep gem-toned furnishings and richly patterned wallpapers, the property offers luxury amenities like a saltwater pool, as well as lovingly manicured grounds, multiple outdoor terraces and a walking trail that are perfect for relaxing and reconnecting with nature.
The Space:
This heirloom property has been lovingly restored by a father-daughter team. The home’s interiors are curated by soon-to-be-architect daughter Deirdre McMullen, favoring a rich blend of antiques and modern furnishings. Deep gem-toned furnishings and richly patterned wallpapers complement the exposed stones, deeply stained timbers, and wood and slate floors. The estate also features a saltwater pool, expansive outdoor terraces, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire estate except for the barn. This includes the swimming pool, terraces, gardens, and on-site walking/jogging trails. There’s also access to the tennis court located across the street.
The Neighborhood:
Located in the rural town of Harwinton in scenic Litchfield County, Argyll House is surrounded by nature, charming cafes, and antique shops. The area is known for its green hills, lakes, and ponds, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, apple and pumpkin picking, and visiting local farms like Thorncrest Farm for fresh dairy and chocolates. Guests can also explore the local cider mill, Hogan's Cider Mill, and visit nearby nature preserves and state parks. Guests can enjoy year-round outdoor activities with hiking and leaf peeping in the fall, swimming in the summer, and skiing at nearby Sundown or Mohawk Mountain in the winter. A guide to local attractions and the hosts’ favorite destinations is available for guests.
Getting Around:
The estate is two hours from New York City, with the nearest major airport being Bradley International Airport in Hartford, located about 40 miles away. The area is best explored by car, offering easy access to nearby hiking trails, state parks, ski resorts, and the quaint shops and restaurants in nearby towns like New Preston. The property offers free parking on its premises and additional parking next to the barn.
