What an amazing, unique and comfortable place to stay! It was perfect for our large group of adults, but would be great for families too! Bedrooms and amenities felt luxurious right down to the linen RH sheets! Owner was super responsive and attentive before, during and after our stay. Would highly recommend!
We reserved the Milford school house for the weekend for my son‘s wedding and it was an amazing experience. Molly was a gracious and wonderful host and answered all our questions and was very responsive to any of our needs. I asked in advanced if we could host the groomsmen at the school house the morning of the wedding, and Molly was more than willing to help facilitate that need for us. The property was such a fun and unique place to stay and it just added to the excitement of the weekend. Keep doing what you’re doing Molly. You have an amazing property and we would love to come stay again.
We had 3 families (each consisting of 2 adults and 2 kids) meeting up for a weekend gathering, and the space was wonderful. Beautifully decorated, full of character, well maintained, and a lot of space to spread out. Each bedroom was spacious, and we appreciated the variety of sleeping arrangements offered with trundle beds rollaway beds. We do think it’s important to note that there are 3 dogs and 2 cats that live on the property - the dogs were at times jumpy and bothered some of the kids. We were also a bit surprised that family/friends as well as vendors were entering the second floor to walk across the hall and/or use a restroom. So, it is not entirely a full “private” floor rental. Nonetheless, it was still a great space that we would consider renting again. Mollie was great to communicate with and very prompt in responding!
As serial entrepreneurs, we're dreamers by nature, and not afraid of a little (or a lot) of hard work. This combination either makes us driven + successful or downright crazy. Most days we'd agree it looks (and feels) crazy.
Josh has owned his own business since the age of 10, Mollie joined him as 'business partner' at 21, and together we've owned + operated a successful lawn care and landscaping company in Central Iowa for more than 25 years. We came to Ames for school in 2007 and never left...just added two kids, two dogs, and an assortment of kitties, chickens, and ducks along the way.
The dream of owning an incredible piece of Iowa's history, coupled with our immense love for entertaining + hospitality was the perfect combination in our minds to take the leap...we've found ourselves the proud new owners of a 27,000 square foot school in the middle of the most beautiful Iowa countryside and we're so ready to share her with you.
Why they chose this property
This 'neighborhood' chose us.
We've been on an acreage for nearly eight years, and it was abundantly clear we'd never be going back to the city...we just had no idea this incredible school is where we would land!
What makes this property unique
Milford Township Consolidated School, Est. 1923 Iowa's Prairie Castle, Est. 2012 Milford Schoolhouse Stays, Est. 2024
The uniqueness of this property is unmatched. Everything from the history she holds inside her walls as an old Iowa school...to the incredible renovation she underwent at the hands of a true artist + his amazing vision...a single step inside the front doors tells you everything you need to know about how truly unique this property is.
