The Local Giraffe ~ w/ firepit, convenient locatio
A giraffe in Arkansas? That's right! This style of stone architecture gained popularity in the Great Depression era as locals utilized plentiful sandstone as an affordable material for construction. The various shades and shapes of stones, along with trademark wide mortar strips, created the “giraffe” pattern of these exteriors, giving them the nickname Giraffe houses. This Arkansas gem has been lovingly modernized and welcomes you to Mountain View for a true Ozark experience.
This 950 sq ft home has been completely updated while paying homage to its' roots. The two small bedrooms feature queen beds with memory foam mattresses along with additional sleeping for two on the sleeper sofa in the living room. The kitchen is stocked with the basics for preparing your meals at home and is open to a seating room that adjoins the living area. The split bathroom has an open vanity area and a connected but separate space with the tub/shower combo and toilet. There is also a large utility/laundry room with washer and dryer for guest use. Just outside the back door you'll find a completely fenced back yard with firepit.

The Local Giraffe is right on Main Street just past Court Square. While it is technically walkable to the square, the lack of sidewalks leads us to recommend the very short drive to park. That said, you can easily walk to Tommy's Famous Pizza from the house, and we highly recommend their pizza or bbq ribs! There are other houses visible from this property and it does sit right on Main Street. You may hear a bit of road noise, especially during busier parts of the day.
Behind the house is a large shop, where we house our vacation rental storage, laundry, and basic operations. You may see us drive past to access the building as we come and go during the day to get supplies, but traffic is minimal. If you need something or just want to say hi, just wave!

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. It’s in a great location—close to town, restaurants, and plenty of entertainment options. The house was very well furnished and had everything we needed. The kitchen was especially nice and well equipped for cooking meals. The beds were comfortable, and the privacy-fenced backyard was a great bonus. We loved spending evenings around the fire pit. Overall, a wonderful place to stay—highly recommend!
We stayed at the giraffe house in March '25 for the Bluegrass festival. It was very clean and neat. There's a cute fire pit out back where you can sit and relax. All of the basics are in n the house and even some coffee, which I really appreciated. It was so close to downtown too and restaurants.
Extremely clean and well-appointed property! Very comfortable beds and furniture. The outdoor space was private and fully fenced for the dogs. We enjoyed spending time around the firepit. The home was just a few blocks from the court square and it was convenient to anywhere we wanted to go. Communication with the Host was easy-breezy. I am looking forward to spening time at other Fireside Retreats propefties!
