The property is beautiful. The host was great and very kind! Cabin is clean and has all amenities needed. Internet is spotty and was a bit frustrating. Overall great stay.

We're so happy you enjoyed your stay! We had a power issue that affected the mesh internet devices across the property and we're sorry for the inconvenience.
We were in town for a family event and had a lovely stay at this historic cabin. What made it extra special were the old knick knacks and pictures hanging on the walls. The property was easy to find, had comfortable beds, and a beautiful view of the lake from the deck of the cabin. I would stay again next time I'm in town.
We loved staying in the beautifully restored cabin. Great view of the lake.

Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Cleanliness
The cabin/house was as described, a very neat old cabin/house. Great location and views. Nice property.Issue was house has a serve bat infestation, there are I would guess at a minimum 50 bats living in the soffits at front porch & in the 2nd floor attic space and walls. At nights we counted up to 50 coming out of cracks in soffit, then had to go back inside as they were flying all around your head. Also found large amounts of bat guano in drawers that are in the walls of 2nd floor room to use as storage for clothes etc. You can hear the bats in the walls during the daytime and the smell of bat guano and their urine is very, very strong throughout the 2nd floor of the house and depending on how hot the day is you can smell it downstairs also. Very unhealthy conditions and they need a major remediation done. To keep from major damage to the house. If it was not for the major bat issue, I would have rated this house high, as stated above, very neat old cabin/house and great location. The rest of the house was clean. But that many bats is not good. We let the owner know about the issue the first day we were there, they sent their property manager over to clean the guano out of the drawers and remove a section of the large window upstairs and put in a screen. Which helped more fresh air get in but did nothing on bat removal, as it will need a very in-depth remodel and removal of insulation, walls etc.

Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize that your stay coincided with an unexpected increase in bat activity. Our cabin is a historic Montana property and while bats are common in this area during the summer months, this level of activity was unusual and certainly not the experience we want our guests to have.
As soon as you notified us we responded by sending our property manager to clean the affected area and improve ventilation. We also gave you a 30% refund on your stay. We have also been working with wildlife professionals on a long-term exclusion and remediation plan to permanently address the issue while complying with Montana wildlife regulations, which limit when bats can be excluded from a roost.
We're grateful that you pointed out that you enjoyed the cabin itself and the beautiful location. We take all guest feedback seriously and are committed to maintaining both the character of this historic cabin and a comfortable experience for our guests.
We really enjoyed the grounds and the cabin itself. Only downside was no curtains on the upstairs window so that meant getting up with the sun. House was very clean and comfortable.
The cabin is incredible, very unique and Nice view. The response from both Jennifer and Cassie were great. The only thing I wish was better was the The internet, it was very intermittent. Overall a very good experience.
We loved the history, the fun we had playing games with our family on the deck and in the yard.
The views of the lake were beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Communication with our host was responsive in a very timely manner.
Really enjoyed the view and the location. Head to toe rustic cabin and very remote away from noise or town. Communication was great and very accommodating
Stayed there in 2013 and now again in 2023! The cabin is truly a special place. The only downside was the 95 degree weather! Hope to get back before another ten years goes by!
Had an issue w a bat, but owners/property manager took care of it. Property manager (Cassie) was extremely nice and helpful. Always accommodating !!!! Hope she’s paid well, she deserves it!

Yes, we do have bats in the mountains in Montana! We’re so glad Cassie was responsive, we appreciate her so much!
I found this listing when I was looking for somewhere unique to stay for my man's birthday and wow did I find it! When you walk in you feel like you truly step back in time. It is clear that this family owned cabin is lovingly cared for. The accommodations are extremely comfortable and clean and have all the amenities you could want. We spent 4 days fishing and came back each night to cook and relax on the deck with spectacular views of the lake. We ended our last night having dinner with friends and then a glass of wine in front of the fire. I absolutely could not have chosen a more perfect spot to make so many great memories!
Property rooms looked larger. Beds were full size not queen except loft room, king bed. I lost an earring is it possible to see if the property manager found it?

We appreciate the review! We did validate that we do have queen size beds in the downstairs bedrooms.
And we did find an earring! I messaged you in the app and we’re happy to mail it to you if you reach out.
This historic cabin has it all, charm, a killer view, comfort, and a great location. Our host was so accomodating and interesting. The cabin is furnished with some amazing antiques. We made great use of the wrap-around deck and huge BBQ grill.
The cabin does not have AC, but we stayed in late July, and between a swamp cooler and many provided fans, it was comfortable.
We saw an abundance of wildlife: friendly deer, chipmunks, birds and bats.
We even got to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie being filmed on-site - it was so interesting.
We were a group of 6 friends and highly recommend this cabin.
We rented all three cabins for a family get together and absolutely loved it! It was a perfect place to sleep comfortably, gather when we wanted, lounge on the huge deck to catch up and cook family meals in the main house. I highly recommend it!
The home was furnished with everything you would need to live there full time!! The host responded quickly when we had a question and we thoroughly enjoyed our first stay in Montana!! The views from the home of the water and mountains are breath taking:)
Excellent property that is right across the street from the lake and close enough to local eateries or 15 mins to Helena. We had the most relaxed and pleasurable experience. Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and the lake breeze. Highly recommend.
This is a great cozy cabin and exactly what you think a Montana cabin should be. The fireplace was beautiful and inviting, deer browsed in the yard, overall relaxing with a great claw-foot soaking tub. Heaven.
Just what we were looking for. Beautiful views , easy access and very relaxing.
The cabin had everything needed to enjoy and was an amazing log cabin home.
We loved staying at this property because of its historical value and it being located right across the street from Canyon Ferry Lake. The view of the lake was gorgeous. My favorite things about this cabin is all of the antiques used in the interior and design. Nancy and Carroll did a fabulous job. It felt like we were experiencing history with modern amenities. The beds were extremely comfortable and there was nothing missing from this cabin. We hopefully will be able to visit again as this cabin is a true treasure.

About the host

Carroll and Nancy are retired. We love living in Montana, not far from the cabin, which is a second home.
Why they chose this property
We bought this home as a private get-away, and for family and friends, and are now opening it up to new friends through VRBO. Carroll is a native Montanan, and Nancy is a native by choice.
What makes this property unique
We never tire of the lake views, and watching all the activity, including all types of boating. Wildlife in the area adds to the Montana experience. The large river rock wood-burning fireplace is a real treat on cool evenings.
