About this property
Solitude in the Mountains
Nicknamed our "Home-tel," this is so much more than a "private room!" Truly better than any hotel option. This secluded retreat has all you could want and then some! Perfect for small families, couples, and solo travelers alike. Minutes to NAU, Sedona, Snowbowl, and historic downtown. A great home base to the Grand Canyon as well. A separate entrance leads you into your own private living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom AND washer and dryer! Don't miss this spacious and beautiful suite!
Our space is the perfect private getaway! This spacious walkout basement apartment, bodes your own private oversized living room, with tv and dvd, and plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. You will have your own private dine in kitchen, stocked with all the amenities you could need for cooking. There is a plush king size bed, with plenty of room for a pack-n-play (available upon request). A jack and jill bathroom with a shower and tub, connects the living space to the bedroom. The sofa in the living room is a queen pull out bed, and extra linens and pillows are provided in the walk in closet, located in the bedroom. There is also a private, full size washer and dryer in the unit, available for your use! Our backyard is full of mature grown oak trees. There is covered outdoor seating for you to enjoy the fresh air and scenery on a warm summer evening. We recently installed an air-conditioning unit, to help ease any summer heat discomfort (May-October).
Unit requires the use of about 5 stairs to descend to get to the "front door."
This space neighbors our second suite, but still allows you complete privacy and your own outdoor space that does not require you to share it. This suite booked? Check out our other listing!
Hometel Suites 1 and 2 can be booked separately for larger parties looking to house nearby one another. Both units together can accommodate parties of 8.
You will enter your private space through your own separate entrance, down a few stairs. The unit is located on our bottom level, at the end of our newly renovated deck, ready for your use! Follow the deck to the end, where the french doors are located. You will notice the number 2 on the mailbox right next to the french doors, for suite 2. There is a lock-box with key, so you are able to check-in at your convenience any time of the day, past 3pm.
Your privacy is one of our top priorities, and our children are never allowed down in your space. How much interaction you’d like is completely dictated by you. I am happy to assist in answering questions or giving referrals, or you could come and stay with little interaction at all! I am often busy taking care of the kids, and we are out and about more than we are home, but the kids also love to hang around outside and play on the trampoline, which you are welcome to! Our kids are very friendly, and love making new friends!
This suite is one of two units, both with their own private entrances, outdoor spaces, and inside amenities. They units are located on the same level, but both are self contained private spaces apart from one another.
We live in a well established family neighborhood. It’s not unusual to see all types of people taking leisurely strolls along the well kept sidewalks, while walking their dogs, and enjoying the fresh mountain air. There is a small park in our neighborhood just down the street from our home, along with a larger park at a local elementary school, also around the corner from our house. Our neighborhood of University Heights is located minutes from Northern Arizona University, along with all the major restaurants, grocery stores, and about a 10 minute drive to the down town area, and a 25 minute drive North to Snowbowl Ski Resort.
There is a bus stop South of our neighborhood, but a pretty good walk to get there. Taxis and Uber are also available.

We stopped for the night at this great little spot. Although only here to catch some sleep on our way to California, it is definitely worth booking! We’ll be staying here again on our return trip so looking forward to a few more hours here. Also very convenient to I40!
This is a beautiful basement apartment with all the amenities you could want. There are children playing in the backyard, but they are very well behaved. We hope to go back to spend a whole week next summer.
This is a beautiful room in a nice quiet neighborhood. The backyard view is so beautiful. The property owner is very responsive to questions. Highly recommend Indian Garden cafe near Sedona.

Wonderful bed, beautiful set-up, lovely neighborhood, very roomy. Wifi information needs to be updated on the printed home instructions. That was the only issue we had.
The property was everything that was described on VRBO. We just wanted a cool place where we could sit outside and enjoy ourselves. The neighborhood was very nice and quiet. Liz and Caleb our hosts were helpful and very pleasant. They have 3 kids but you wouldn't know it. We will definitely seek this Hometel again when we are looking to escape Phoenix for awhile.
Everything was as advertised, clean, comfortable, well stocked kitchen and good location. We enjoyed the cool temperatures sitting under the covered patio tent.

This "hometel" is more home than hotel...
Overall, much more home than hotel. We were expecting something different...we will not return.
In the "plus" category: clean, good size rooms, comfortable bed, quiet neighborhood, close to town, easy parking, clear "check-in" instructions, WIFI access, cute décor, laundry machine.
In the "needs improvement" category: Air Conditioning set-up not adequate to deal with evening temps that don't drop below 76 degrees, no coffee or water bottles provided, TV is not "smart" so difficult to access cloud-based apps (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc.), watered down hand soap (pretty bottle but soap not adequate), towels under par, bedroom closet was a mess, dirty outdoor sitting area and AC machine loud, unkempt deck (debris everywhere), "check-out" instructions include pulling the sheets off the bed (really?) and cleaning dishes (not sanitary for the next guests).
In the "cannot improve" category: dark (space is located under the house), crowded neighborhood (house backs up to several other homes), tiny bathroom (sink, toilet, space, ceiling), creepy entrance way to the units (at night it felt like walking into an concrete bunker), unsafe stairway down to the units (no handrail).

Hello Mary,
Wow, so sorry to hear about so many disappointing aspects to your stay. You mentioned no issues during any part of your stay. To address some of your complaints- the tv is definitely a smart TV, with a fire stick as well for even easier access of streaming services. Perhaps you didn’t know how to use it? We definitely provide ground coffee (as well as sugars and syrup) and do not claim to provide water bottles anywhere in our listing. The tap water is 100% clean and drinkable. The hand soap is also never watered down. I could see how outdoor seating areas could have much debris, as it monsooned daily during your stay, to the point of extreme flooding in Flagstaff. Sometimes there’s nothing we can do in regards to outdoor debri and weather.
As you mentioned the home is located in a great, family friendly neighborhood. None are all that close to the back of the home, but you can see other homes, being in a neighborhood.
Our check out procedures are pretty standard for home rentals. Washing your own used dishes, with us double checking them, is a standard request. Sorry if that caught you off guard.
Also, there very much is a handrail down the stairs to the unit for safety. Sorry you seemed to have missed that.
Amazing!, exactly the perfect get away from the heat in Phoenix. The outside gazebo on the deck was so nice to have coffee and enjoy the breeze. The bed was so comfy. We hated to leave and will totally book again.
We were pleased with the cleanliness, the comfort and the location. Liz was quick to answer any questions. We will stay here again when we return to Flagstaff.
This place was perfect for our stay in Flagstaff. Communication with Liz was great. Directions were easy. The place was clean and comfortable. We were very happy with our stay. The place was conveniently located in south Flagstaff. with easy access to Sedona or the Grand Canyon. The neighborhood was close to the Interstate, stores and restaurants but the house is in the middle of the neighborhood so it felt like the middle of the woods with all of the mature trees. The personal touches were awesome
We had an amazing time with our two boys. Access to bed options, kitchen, games, and yard made it feel like home. Communication was easy as was check in. Would definitely recommend this property. Close to many restaurants and stores. Close freeway access to Williams and Sedona. A must stay!
Liz was wonderful and responded quickly when we asked questions about the rental. We stayed in suite 2, which was perfect for the two of us. Great location, clean and comfortable! The king size bed was extremely comfortable. Great layout and flow. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed; from a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, plenty of pots and pans, a good assortment of spices for those who plan on cooking. We used the grill on the beautiful porch one evening and it worked great. The washer and dryer were a wonderful plus that made our stay so much easier. We would recommend this property to anyone we know traveling to this beautiful area.
We loved our stay in Flagstaff! The property is in a cute neighborhood just a few minutes from downtown Flagstaff. The Garcia’s gave us a few recommendations on restaurants, and they were incredible! Liz was extremely responsive for anything that came up. We would definitely stay here again.
Just like the pics! Roomy, clean, had everything we needed!
Easy communication with owner before and during stay. Property is lovely and just like the pics. No surprises. Perfect experience. Will definitely stay again!

About the host
Hosted by Liz Garcia
Both myself and my husband were born and raised in Flagstaff, and love getting to share the local hot spots, activities, and quirks of the town that we have learned while growing up here. We love getting to meet new people, and share the beauty that is Flagstaff.
Why they chose this property
Our property is located in a family friendly neighborhood that is away from the traffic and noise but close enough to still enjoy the night life by a 10 minute drive! The perfect mix of seclusion and convenience! Beautiful, mature trees line the sidewalks of our cozy area, and looking out off the back decks into the back yard feels like you are in a tree house! A one of a kind space! Don't miss it.
What makes this property unique
The safety of our guests is a top priority. We have taken on the cleaning guidelines for hotels/vacation rentals outlined by the CDC and WHO for our properties. All linens are washed after every guest and stored away. We have multiple sets of sheets and towels so that no sheets or towels are ever being used back to back, and have time to be washed and also sit for at least 24hrs before reuse. All duvets are washed between guests, and pillows are all sprayed down with disinfectant. All surfaces, including light switches, handles, remotes, etc. are extensively wiped down with disinfectant after every guest. We have contactless entry and checkout as well, so the interaction with us, while we do live on property, can be as little as you'd like! With our suites being a part of our home, it is our top priority to keep the spaces safe and clean. If you have any specific questions regarding any of our procedures, please do not hesitate in reaching out and contacting us. We look forward to hosting you!
