Lakefront 15 mins from Portland with Private Beach and Fenced in Yard
Experienced hosts, with 100+ reviews and a 10/10 star rating on our current vacation rental property (#2001421). This lakefront home on beautiful Forest Lake is our primary residence, and we are putting this property up on VRBO for a select few date ranges. 15 mins to Portland city limits, 18 min to Industrial Way Breweries, Riverside Golf+North Deering, 25 mins to downtown (Old Port, Arts District, Munjoy Hill+West End).
Our house is right on the water, with 75 feet of private shoreline and a private dock. If you're looking for a large, comfortable lakefront property with quick access to the city, this place is unbeatable. If you are looking for a very remote cabin, it may not be a good fit. We are in a very convenient location, with easy access to major roads nearby -occasionally you may be able to hear some road noise in certain conditions (weather and foliage seem to play a role), but we think it's worth it to be so close to Portland.
2 brand new Weber grills in September 2026, one large one for the lakeside deck, and a smaller one for the side deck.
We are pet friendly for non-shedding, well trained, adult dogs only, $200 per pet fee applies. This spacious home has an open concept kitchen/dining/living space with gorgeous views of Forest Lake. The lake is spring fed, and very clean. We have a lovely sandy beach with gradual entry to the water, and a large grassy fenced in yard (fence height ranges from 2 to 6 feet).
Bedrooms (with all linens provided): 1 King bedroom 2 Queen bedrooms 1 Double/Full + 2 Twins bedroom 1 Double/Full bedroom
Features: -two lakeside firepits (one traditional, one large Solo Stove) -pet friendly for non shedding dogs only -lakeside deck with comfortable sofa and dining for 6 -4 kayaks, one Sea Eagle kayak with sail (tandem inflatable for 2 paddlers and passengers: holds up to 750 lbs) and an assortment of inflatable floats and noodles -18 minute drive into Portland -downhill skiing: under an hour to Shawnee Peak, 35 mins to Lost Valley -well stocked kitchen
Things to note:
The lake generally freezes sometime in December, and is usually safe to play on in January, February, and the start of March. It's great for ice skating, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling.
The ground floor has a gym area, with a treadmill, rowing machine, spin bike, and weight bench. There are yoga mats, straps, foam rollers, and two large TVs to entertain you while you work out. For safety, the heavy weights are locked with a combination, which is available if you’d like to use them.
Radiant heated floors on the ground floor and the 1st floor. Upstairs is heated by baseboard heat. In the summer, there are window AC units in all bedrooms minus the ground floor bedroom (tends to stay cool), as well as a unit in the dining area. For the colder months there is a wonderful propane fireplace in the living area.
Our fence varies in height. By the water it is only 2 feet high.
Unfortunately our home is not ideal for guests with mobility challenges, with stairs for entry and throughout the house. There are 6 stairs to enter the house on the 1st floor, where the kitchen/living area is. There is no railing along the dock, nor along the steps to the beach. The 1st floor is the original cabin structure, so has 7' ceilings, with two beams that come down about another 6". The ground floor and 2nd floor have 8' ceilings, and the primary bedroom has a lovely lofted 10' ceiling.
There are shades and curtains on all bedroom windows, as well as in the dining area and kitchen. The large lakeside windows do not have shades or curtains.
The house is one mile down a dirt road. In the summer it's usually in good shape, but can be very bumpy during the shoulder seasons (it's particularly rough during mud season- March/April), when we'd recommend a vehicle with higher clearance (a small SUV is fine).
DOGS: -We are pet friendly for non-shedding, well trained, adult dogs only. $200 per pet fee applies. -When you arrive, we ask that you leash your dog to show them around the space. This can help with any potential marking behavior. -We have lots of carpets and rugs, so if there is ANY chance your dog will have an accident, please don't bring them here. -Dogs are not to be left alone at the property, unless they are crated. -Please help us stay pet friendly by abiding by these rules!
This is our home, so you will see our things here and there. We have provided plenty of space for your things, with closet space and dressers available for your use.

Beautiful lakeside cabin that makes you feel at home. We had relaxing morning coffee on the dock, smores under the stars at night, and even utilized the gym to keep up on our fitness while you vacation. Far enough from the bustle of the city, but close enough to get to great restaurants and attractions in 15-20 min. The owners were wonderful and attentive and they take care of their property for guests. I highly recommend staying and this great waterfront cabin.

A nice cabin and good hosts who were kind enough to facilitate a reservation change a few weeks before. Unfortunately, the lake is right on a major highway (I95) which wasn’t mentioned on the site. You can’t see the highway but it is noisy 24-7. The interior and of the house was nice, but there’s nothing luxurious about it and the grill was so rundown that we did not use it. This surprised us since we paid 12000 for a week. My family enjoy itself nevertheless, but I would not recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet or luxurious lake experience. For dog owners, it is nice though, because of the fenced in yard.

We are happy to hear that your family enjoyed their stay. Thank you for letting us know about the grill, it has been upgraded to a brand new, larger model. Regarding the traffic noise, it is unusual to hear the road, especially during the summer. When we returned home, we were surprised to hear it was louder than we've ever heard, and have since discovered that they are repaving the highway. During your week it was at the textured grading stage, therefore much louder than usual. We regret this timing, and are grateful that it's usually much more peaceful. Despite the hiccups, we are glad to hear that your family still enjoyed our place.
I annually take my daughter, niece, their spouses and children ( 12 of us) for a week on Maine, usually in York. This year we decided to try a Lake vacation, and it was just wonderful. Lots to do, with kayaks, flotation devices of every kind, fishing rods and plenty of games. No one missed their screen time, which was amazing.
This property was adorable! Easy lake access and beautiful views. Lots of water toys. Plenty of bedrooms and full baths. Close to Portland. We highly recommend!
