About this property

Donegal. 4 bedroom cottage (8) Dunfanaghy & Falcarragh - Wild Atlantic Way

Ballyboe is a superb modern luxury holiday home situated between the villages of Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh in North West Donegal. The cottage is set in a tranquil rural location and enjoys wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and coastline toward Tory Island. This beautiful landscape is ever changing with the constantly changing sky. The cottage is situated at the foothills of Muckish mountain. This delightful and spacious holiday home has been designed to ensure a relaxing and comfortable holiday experience. It can accommodate up to 8 people in both style and comfort. Two of the four spacious bedrooms are en-suite and have king sized beds - both rooms enjoy sea views.
Ballyboe Cottage is located along the coastal road between Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh. Dunfanaghy is one of Donegal’s most popular holiday destinations and features many fine restaurants and pubs. Falcarragh is a vibrant village located in West Donegal Gaeltacht. Both villages have golf courses and can boast blue flag beaches.

Local attractions: Ballyboe cottage is situated within minutes travel of some of Donegal and Ireland's greatest attractions, including:-
Stunning beaches at Killahoey Strand, Marble Hill Strand, and Falcarragh Beach all less than 10 min away and Magheraroarty less than 25 min.
Glenveagh National Park: About twenty minutes drive away from the cottage this magnificent national park is home to herds of red deer and golden eagles.
Tory Island: Daily ferry trips to Tory, located 9 mile off the Donegal coast, leave from nearby Magheraroarty pier. Although only 4km long and 1 km wide, the island has 2 towns, East Town and West Town.

Dunlewey Lakeside Centre. This centre has lots of different attractions to keep all the family entertained - children's play area, farm yard, boat trips, craft shop, weaving house, audio visuals, etc

Ards Forest Park Located 3km south-east of Dunfanaghy, this wonderful park has marked nature trails and is also a wildfowl sanctuary. Scenic drive at Horn Head nearby.

Other attractions: Gartan Outdoor Pursuits Centre: Situated on the shores of Loch Gartan this is a very popular destination for adventure holiday enthusiasts.
Glebe House and Gallery: This is a Regency house built in 1828 set in woodland and decorated with William Morris textiles and Japanese art. The gallery houses the renowned Derek Hill Art Collection.

The area is rich with Arts and Crafts: Galleries include The Art House; Green Door; Workhouse and Greendoor Galleries. Or visit McNutt tweeds nearby.

The area has loads of charming restaurants and pubs. We recommend The Cove Dunfanaghy, superb local organic produce. Other great picks include Arnold's, Lizzies, the Starfish Cafe, Muck and Muffins, Buttermilk and more. Local hotels also have superb menus including Lough Altan. Something Fishy does the best takeaway fresh fish and chips for miles, other takeaway options include Chinese, Pizza and more.

A lovely three bedroom home off the beaten track. If you enjoy country lane and beach walks, serious hiking, or national parks, this is an excellent base from which to explore the area, away from most other tourists.

Great house in the ole country of Ireland

This was a really nice house with a beautiful backyard scenery. We enjoyed the use of the kitchen and the windows in the roof were super fun to look through for the sunset in the evening.

A beautiful, clean and comfortable house - perfect for a relaxing stay. Communication with Mary, the host, was excellent throughout. Check-in and out was seamless. There are sea views towards Tory Island from the back of the house, which is a short and easy drive to Dunfanaghy main street.

Very well equipped and located spacious cottage. All you would need for a home from home feel, down to plenty of fresh towels and crockery. Very comfortable living area. We stayed as a couple with our dog but the property seemed well equipped for a large family. Perfect for visiting the area, only a few minutes from Falcarragh and Dunfanaghy with easy access to several stunning dog-friendly beaches with parking and a large forest park. Hosts were very welcoming and informative. Really enjoyed our stay, thank you!

Relaxing and enjoyable week in a lovely location.

Our family of 5 have just returned from a lovely week in the cottage. The house has amazing views over fields, mountains and the sea. The house is a home from home with lots of space and so well equipped for a self catering holiday. We will definitely return.

We really enjoyed the beautiful rural location

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was great that we could take our fur family with us also. The house was lovely and spacious and suited our needs. Checking in was easy and didn’t actually have to meet anyone in person for keys so that was good. Beautiful scenery from the front rooms in the house and was great for family visiting from another country that wanted to get a real feel for Donegal.

Short break

My family and our 2 dogs absolutely loved our short stay at Ballyboe cottage, despite the unseasonal cold and wet June weather we got. The property has stunning views of the nearby mountains and beach, inside the house is really spacious, bright, clean and comfortable. Mary was super quick to get back to any questions I had and was beyond helpful in recommending places to visit while we were there. Unfortunately we didn’t get the best weather but the beaches we saw were breathtaking, Ards forest park worth a visit. We will definitely be back and have been recommending it to all our friends and family!

Nice house in the countryside

Nice, airy and spacious house, lacking a bit of TLC and missing some practical details like hooks for towels in the bathroom and for jackets in the hallway. Nice views over the countryside and the sea. Very rural.

Wonderful

As always staying at Ballyboe cottage was amazing, cosy comfortable and close to beach and local villages, the cottage is well furnished and a great place to bring kids and pets. There are a few small things that need repair, the hot tap in kitchen is loose, skirting in some places need attached, touching up of paintwork here and there, and floor tiles in upstairs en suite loose, a handyman could repair these in a day. Great communication with hosts and kindly left kids some lovely treats. Thank you, we'll be back.

Tranquil holiday

The house has 4 good sized bedrooms, the 2 on the 1st floor are both ensuite. I enjoyed many a morning upstairs sitting at the window with my cuppa enjoying the countryside views. It rates high for cleanliness and nice comfy beds and bedding. The owner Mary is very considerate with sending helpful messages of places to visit for both wet and dry days if required. This was our 2nd holiday in this property and we would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in this area.
