Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
I really wanted to like this place and went in with an open mind. I’ll start with the positives: the host was very responsive, and communication was good. The location is also great, very close to all the fun things Big Bear has to offer.Unfortunately, there were several issues that impacted our stay. We were unable to do any kind of early check-in, even after requesting it. While I understand the need for cleaning between guests, that would have been easier to accept if the home had felt clean upon arrival. The furniture matched the listing photos but was much more worn and run-down than expected. I can overlook older furniture, but the main issue was hygiene. The place did not appear to have been deep cleaned in quite some time. The towels provided were stained, and although the listing sleeps eight, only three towels were available—and they were not usable. The bedding and pillowcases had noticeable dog hair and stains, and the pillows themselves were in such poor condition that I had to go out and buy new ones. The kitchen utensils and items also appeared dirty and dingy. When we brought these concerns to the host, she did respond and eventually dropped off new towels, but the response did not feel very apologetic, which was disappointing given the nature of the issues. For me, cleanliness and hygiene are top priorities when staying anywhere. While I can get past older or slightly run-down accommodations, that standard was not met here. I would not stay here again.
