NOT a Vacation Rental by Owner (Occupied Rental)

We recently stayed four nights in this home with our family of five (Wife, Husband, and Three Adult Children). Booking was easy as expected. We arrived after a 10 hour drive to find that the lockbox code was incorrect. Owner did respond quickly with updated code thankfully. The home is in a not so great neighborhood but it is newer and very clean. We were surprised to find that it is actually “owner occupied” so there was food on the counter and in the refrigerator and all cabinets as an FYI. They advertise that you have access to the hot tub in the backyard but be aware that there is a camera back there and you do not have access to the washer and dryer. This is not ideal for wet bathing suits and we were disappointed about this aspect as we were not going to spend time on vacation in a laundry mat. This is the most important aspect that we overlooked in the booking details. You cannot have ANY outside guests visit you in this home including immediate family members not listed on the reservation. It was easy to miss in the booking details as you have to hit “show more” to reveal this rule. We learned the hard way via an email and text message our first night in the home “hosting” family members for pizza. The checkout instructions were not included in the booking but rather were sent at 10:50PM our last night while we were asleep. The home had a lot of fragile items so avoid it at the holidays if you have little ones.

I apologize for the inconvenience with the lockbox code upon arrival and am glad I could resolve it quickly for you. I’d like to address a few points for future guests’ clarity: While the home is not fully vacant - as stated in our bio, it is professionally cleaned before each stay, and any personal items left are secured to ensure guest comfort - including all the treats and adult beverages you and your guests all enjoyed - you are very welcome! The hot tub and backyard are accessible for guest use, and the cameras are disclosed in the listing for safety and security purposes. As disclosed in our rental agreement - cameras in the front and back of the house are for guest safety and property security when vacant. These cameras do not infringe on reasonable privacy. If this is a concern, guests are advised not to book this property. As stated in the listing, house rules and rental agreement, the property is for the exclusive use of registered guests, which is essential for maintaining our insurance as it only covers registered guests. Regarding laundry facilities, they are not included in the rental, and also excluded as appliances in the listing. Finally, I acknowledge the timing of the checkout instructions and will ensure these are sent earlier to avoid any confusion in the future.
