Built toward the end of the 19th century, this one-bedroom, one and one half-bath property is as rich in history as it is charm. Once the home of Mrs. Wilkes, proprietress of the famous Boarding House and still-operational Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, this parlor-level condo offers a unique stay for up to four Lucky guests. Wake up every morning to beautiful Jones Street, where cobblestones and ancient oak trees dripping in spanish moss compelled Southern Living Magazine to name it the “Prettiest Street in America.”

The original hardwood floors and 12’ ceilings and tasteful interior decor make this home-away-from-home warm and inviting. The large living area has a flat screen TV and a queen-sized sleeper sofa. Pocket doors separate the parlor from the dining room, which has seating for four. The galley-style kitchen is fully equipped with all you’ll need for a weekend getaway or extended stay. The large, elegant bedroom has a king-sized bed with soft, luxurious bedding.

The Wilkes House is an ideal location to call home while exploring the varied sights and activities around the Historic District. Located in the middle of our bustling Design District, stylish shops dot the streets among several historic homes open for touring, including the Mercer Williams House and the childhood home of Flannery O’Connor. With a three night or longer say, you’ll receive one free lunch for two at Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room, where you’ll dine like a local and feel like family!

Parking for this home is on-street and metered, which is enforced by the City of Savannah from Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Guests may conveniently pay using the ParkSavannah app, feed the meter or parking kiosks directly, or park on a nearby non-metered street. Please take note of posted Sweep Zone signs when parking on the street.

*Guests receive one free lunch for two with every three-night or more booking. The restaurant is typically closed for the month of January. Please contact the Mrs. Wilkes Restaurant directly regarding open and seasonal hours as these may vary. In the event of restaurant closure, we are unable to offer refunds but guests are welcome to use the lunch voucher on your next visit!

Amazing location

For the price of any one of the up-scale hotels, you have 4 rooms of history, and a free meal downstairs in the famous Boarding House Restaurant. Say Hello to Marcia, Mr. Wilks grandaughter, and her son Ryan... that runs the place. It's history here that's your experiencing !

The apartment did have difficulties cooling off the space, but it was plenty of room for us. I did have difficulties with Lucky Star and did not get timely response back from them until complaining a second time.

We enjoy it so much that we don't even bother looking for any other place to stay.I appreciate that the front door lock has been fixed. It was always very tricky trying to get it open.The only thing that I would recommend is upgrading the couch. It is very uncomfortable to sit on, and there is no place to rest your feet. That's a small issue, but it would really make a big difference when you come back in from a long walk and just want to sit and relax for a little while.Overall, we had a great time as usual, and we can't wait to come back in Dec. 2018.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The apartment is very large, three very large rooms and a modest kitchen. The bathrooms are small but ok.It has a dark feel due to limited natural lighting and being decorated in the general idea of maybe a century ago, but not quite. The photos show different furniture than what we actually had. For example, there was no robin’s egg blue sofa, only a drab brown one in its place. The lack of brighter colorsfelt gloomy, but is consistent with the era. The bed was ok. The location for us was good, quieter street but within walking distance for most of our needs. An unexpected nice perk was eating in the restaurant on the first floor. Much better than expected for s family style restaurant. Staff was so friendly.

Beautiful historic home, great location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: What a charming place stay. If you love historic homes, you’ll appreciate the Wiles House. Located on a quiet tree lined street in the heart of the historic district, you are within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, museums and historic homes to tour. We loved that the apartment retained it’s original period details such as the fireplaces, ceiling medallions, hardwood floors and moldings. Very, very spacious with large rooms (except bathrooms and kitchen, but that was fine with us). For the most part things were clean and well maintained. The living furniture has seen better days...the sofa was sagging and felt grungy and a bit smelly.. we didn’t sit on it. The shower curtain liner was covered with mold and the fitted sheet was too small for the bed and would pop off while we slept, wrapping around us...we had to get up several times during the night to remake the bed. As a vacation rental owner myself, I make sure to stay in our rental 3 or 4 times a year to experience it like a guest and make note of anything that needs maintained or replaced. With just a few tweaks the Wilkes House will be a 5 star stay for sure.

Fabulous location! Loved having lunch at Mrs. Wilkes cafe downstairs - didn’t realize how popular and legendary it was till I saw the line around the block! Get in line early and take advantage of the free lunch - you will not regret it!! One of the highlights of our trip!

Great week in Savannah

This was our first time staying in a VRBO versus a hotel and it was the best decision. Great accommodations located in a perfect part of the city. The property is close to activities downtown, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful for evening walks or drinks on the front steps. House had everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay, and the team at Lucky Savannah were fantastic at communicating check in and check out information. We will definitely stay here again.

Wonderful experience for our 63rd anniversary!

The accommodations were perfect! We loved the history and the original furnishings. It was comfortable and met all our needs. The bed was super comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and it was all very clean. Lunch at Mrs. Wilks was amazing. The best chicken and fried okra I have tasted since my mother's cooking long ago....and the Wilks family members hosting were so friendly and full of information. The location was perfect to walk everywhere. We just loved it all and hated for it to be over!

Location perfection!

Beautiful rooms in the heart of lovely Savannah. The location on Jones Street (an official “prettiest” street in America) was a perfect base to walk and explore from. And the delicious lunch from the famed Mrs Wilkes Restaurant was the cherry on top! Don’t miss this southern gem!

Short get away

Great stay in a great neighborhood. Mrs Wilkes restaurant was a great experience and the food was fantastic. The property was close to everything we wanted/needed. After we unloaded our car we parked our car in the Liberty Street Parking Garage and didn't touch it again until it was time to leave. Everything we needed was in walking distance - waterfront, city market, restaurants, grocery store, etc. There is also a FREE bus that runs a route that will take you to the waterfront as well. We really enjoyed our stay here and look forward to coming back.
