The Gertie is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cabin with a pull out couch in the sectional and a small fenced in area off the back door. Relax at this peaceful farm-stay surrounded by animals and nature. At your fully furnished cabin you will enjoy feeling a sense of solitude, while also being within a mile of downtown Black Mountain. The cabin is equipped with 2 King Sleep Number mattresses, a pull-out queen sofa, a 220v hot tub for 5 people, firepit and more. Fresh eggs from our chickens are often available, and on-site owners assure you will need for nothing. RV/trailer parking available.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Trash can is under the porch. Just put any trash or recycling in the proper container.
Return ac to 75 in summer or heat to 68 in winter.
If you are in a hurry, do not worry. We know its not always easy to get things done and check out in the mornings. Just travel safe and we hope you will come back and visit us again!

Wonderful stay! The cabin is exactly as pictured, incredibly clean and comfortable. The hot tub was huge! We were looking for a cabin, but close to restaurants and entertainment and this was the perfect fit.Feeding the animals was a delightful surprise, and the owner is very communicative and kind! We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this place!

One of the best VRBOs we’ve stayed in. Super clean, private yet close in, and lots of extra touches (Sleep Number bed, soaps and shampoos from local shop, fresh eggs, makeup washcloth). The mini-farm and the animals were charming, and we loved that there were treats to give them. The hot tub was great, too.

Absolutely perfect cabin nestled within a farm; my family and I had such a wonderful time here. The owner was communicative, provided animal feed for us, had great ideas in their welcome binder and let us know of upcoming events in Black Mountain. It was super accessible to the greater Asheville area as well. Cabin was decorated and appointed super well; great internet, smart TVs, stocked kitchen, etc. Looking forward to our next visit out there!

Perfect Black Mountain Getaway

A well-located property that is immaculate and very generously appointed. The owners have done a tremendous job with their cabins and really create an excellent atmosphere on their property. Our family of 4 adults (plus little dog) had a great time and would return in a heart-beat. The cabins are immaculately clean, and the owners were kind and welcoming from beginning to end. Could not recommend staying here highly enough!

Clean Pretty Thoughtful Cabin and Owners

We absolutely loved staying at The Gertie Cabin! The interior is very pretty and all of the extra touches are very thoughtful. We were so impressed by how clean and new everything was. The animals outside were such a fun added bonus. Our kids loved going outside to feed them! The owners are readily available and very accomodating. Overall, we LOVED staying here and would absolutely stay again!

Dreamy farm stay in charming small town

We had the best stay! The cabin is so cute and well decorated. We loved the hot tub and electric fire place. Scott brought us fresh eggs and let us meet the animals. Location is awesome - just a few minutes from downtown, 10-15 minutes from hiking trails, and 15-20 minutes from Asheville, but the cabin feels secluded and quiet. Their recommendations for dining out and things to do were great.

Perfect Cabin Stay in a Beautiful Farm Setting

We had a fantastic stay at this charming farm in Black Mountain! The property was absolutely beautiful and such a peaceful retreat. The cabin was spotless, cozy, and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One of the highlights was getting to interact with the animals — goats, chickens, mini ponies, and even ducks! It was such a treat to be able to feed them with the food provided right in the cabin. This was a perfect mix of relaxation and fun for all ages. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique and memorable getaway!

Spring Break Gem

Halfback Hollar is a must if you are wanting to be near the Black Mountain area. The farm animals are precious and fun to watch. The kids loved them! New hot tub that provided lots of entertainment and fresh eggs waiting on the counter upon arrival. Comfy sleep number beds were much appreciated. The owners live near by and are more than willing to introduce you to the animals and tell their rescue stories. Or you could just enjoy the solitude and know that Scott is available for any needs that may arise.

We had a wonderful stay! Scott was very accommodating to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. The animals were a bonus! The hosts provided food labeled in the cabin for the animals so we could feed them (along with the fresh eggs!) Scott let us see and hold the baby ducks…so cute! The cabin was very clean and tastefully decorated with all nice and new amenities from the kitchen stocked with plenty of the latest appliances, utensils, dinnerware, glassware, coffeemaker to the comfortable number beds plus a convenient washer/dryer. The hosts thought of every detail to make it feel like home especially with the fresh linens, wonderful shampoos/soaps and room sprays that are from a local store downtown. The cabin is conveniently located in a quiet area very close to downtown where there is plenty of choices for food and shopping! We will be back for sure!

The Gertie cabin was awesome! The host, Scott, reached out to us on arrival day to let us know the cabin was ready early. When we arrived, we were welcomed by the ponies and goats. The cabin was spacious and spotless! The hot tub was ready for us to use right away! Scott had also left treats for the animals on the counter and in the fridge. He also provided us with fresh eggs. Everything was perfect!

We have hosted for 10 years in Saint Augustine, Florida before relocated to beautiful Black Mountain. We came half back from our original home of Cincinnati, Ohio. We love engaging with our guests when they have questions about the area or just our life and home. We enjoy boating on Lake James (about 45 minutes away) hiking some nearby trails or walking our dogs around lake tomahawk (less than 1 mile away.) Our life is our farm and our family. You will usually catch us at the farmers markets or local restaurants. We love hearing about all the different families that stay with us, making relationships and hosting the same families for years to come.

Why they chose this property

To have 2.5 acres within a mile of downtown Black Mountain is a dream. We completely overhauled our house and then got to work on the cabins. The property was then fenced in and the pastures set up to safely protect our animals. We love the proximity to Highland Farms Givens retirement home and hope that many families that are here to visit their loved ones will come stay with us and be able to walk to visit their family members there.

What makes this property unique

We are a farm stay so if you love animals and nature you will love our cabin. You can look out your windows or your porch and see the goats playing with each other or our mini ponies running around or just laying in the sun. We are moving our ducks into our duck pond this spring and hoping they will bring us some baby ducks. Our chickens have a large run and we are doubling our numbers this spring so chances are you will be able to see our baby chickens. From the fountain in the pond, the waterfall in the koi pond, our gardens that we are currently working on to the bees we hope to keep soon there will be so much to engage you and learn about. We hope to offer educational programs and field trips next year and we are continually growing and adding to our halfback home.
