Exactly as advertised, clean and quiet. Driveway is a little tricky but we had no major issues. We saw lots of wildlife while sitting on the decks outside.

Fantastic House Near Asheville, but in the quiet, somewhat private outskirts

Such a comfortable home and so close to all of the Asheville activities. Somewhat private in the trees and very quiet road while we were there. Great patio space and the hot tub was great after long days of exploring.

Good house.

A bit dated, but overall a good house. It served our purposes well(hurricane relief). Great communication from the host. It smelled like an old house that is my only complaint.

Quick Getaway

We planned this trip at the last minute and could not have been happier with the cabin. It was more than we needed for the 2 of us, but the price and location could not be beat. The space was comfortable and location was convenient. Would definitely come back and stay again.

Location was great, loved the trail that is right across the street from the house. Beautiful location. Hot tub was nice. Beds were uncomfortable for my partner with back problems.

Comfortable, cozy place well located to see Asheville

This property was clean and inviting, and had everything we needed for a multi-day stay. The owners were easy to reach and helpful. Beds were comfy. We really appreciated that there were toys and books for the little ones to discover, as well as a sandbox and a playhouse. All in all, a really pleasant stay.

Perfect host

Mr Clark was extremely fast communicating back with me even during one of the worst possible times this area has seen. I didn’t get to stay unfortunately only due to the hurricane that swept the roads away. I plan on scheduling another time to stay here solely based on how great the host were during that time and leading up to it. The cabin itself had everything we wanted and needed for a great vacation.

Perfect Asheville Stay

Secluded house with fenced in yard. Kids played non-stop outside when we were home, they loved their bedroom, and you can see them in the treehouse while in the Jacuzzi. We hiked on trails right across the street and it was close to downtown. I will recommend to friends and will stay at again when I return!

Great property!

We've rented in the Asheville area several times and this is an optimum location. Remote with views. Quiet for enjoyable nights around the fire pit on the deck. 10 minute access to adult recreating in Asheville. Very accommodating hosts.

Duckers Corner!

We really enjoyed our mid week get away. The serenity of the mountains, the culture and art downtown, and the jacuzzi to close out every evening. It's perfect when you want to get away from it all. Plus, Rodney and Katie are very close should you need anything. (Even a 8 pm visit to turn on lights we could not get to work, THANKS AGAIN!)

Excellent Family Getaway

This property was very easy to access. It was just a couple of miles down the road from anything you would need, but it still had the illusion of being in a treehouse. As a party of five (parents from Florida, myself, husband and ten year old son coming from northern Ohio) it was just the right size and with all the amenities you could possibly need. Downtown Asheville is close as well as the Biltmore and a lot of dining choices, and the Haw Creek Overlook trail is a great hike with a fantastic view. We also got to see a bear!

Great spot, good location

This cabin is in a great location close to downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge. We came to spend Christmas with family in the area and had a great time staying here. Our hosts were super attentive with communication and check-in accommodations, and even set up a little Christmas tree for us, which was very sweet and thoughtful. My only critique is the hefty cleaning fee on top of paying a lot per night. However, we had such a great experience on this property, which was fully equipped for people who wanted to spend time there comfortably and we brought our two dogs, so I can understand. The yard is fully fenced in and has a cool treehouse and hot tub, both of which we used and loved. Overall, we had a lovely time and would definitely reserve again.

Relax and unwind

My family had a wonderful time at this property. The house was exactly as listed and had everything we needed to destress from life while on fall break. It accommodated our four legged family member too. Morning spent watching the sunrise over the mountain whilst drinking coffee on the desks, afternoons watching movies, hiking on nearby trails or on trails at close state parks, and evenings in the hot tub or out and about. Proximity to Ashville, blue ridge parkway, and Biltmore made this place perfect for us. Thanks for the last minute opportunity to make ur home ours.

Amazing getaway!!

This was one of the best family vacations we've had! Our two young children loved the playhouse, big yard, toys, and Dr. Seuss themed room. We also loved the hot tub and serenity of the woods! The house had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable, showers we're hot (including the jet tub- the whole family LOVED that!). We went on walks in the woods, and I loved doing yoga on the deck as the sun rose over the mountains. The location was perfect- we explored Asheville and Black Mountain (a little ways out but totally worth a day trip!). After our kids went to bed we got delivery from delicious downtown restaurants....it was awesome how secluded we felt, but still had the amenities of being right in Asheville. Rodney and Katie, thank you so much for sharing your corner of heaven with us...We can't wait to come back!!

Just OK

Home needs a little TLC. There were a few cobwebs in the kitchen and bedroom down stairs. One of the beds in the downstairs bedroom is in desperate need of replacement; it squeaks and the mattress is very uncomfortable. All the other beds seem to be fine. It is “off the beaten” path which was perfect for our group as we really weren’t venturing out in the evening. But it isn’t too far from any of the major attractions: downtown breweries, Biltmore, arboretum.

Retreat near the blue ridge parkway

We enjoyed our trip at this house. My child loved the mural wall in the kids room, outdoor play space, and all of the toys. We found what we needed in the kitchen to cook and serve meals. The carpets were clean and bedrooms were fairly spacious and well kept with clean linens and towels. The shower upstairs was a little tricky but owner was quick to respond and I realized I hadn’t read the directions posted there on how to turn it on. They even came out to check the hot tub temperature for us. We enjoyed our quick trips to the nature center and folk art center as well as hiking on the parkway. Getting to Downtown Asheville was also very easy on Tunnel Rd. There was also an internet tv system and video games. One suggestion would be to fix the upper cabinet that juts out with no lower cabinet under or wall next to it. We bumped into it a few times getting around the kitchen. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!:)

Quiet, serene, peaceful escape! Great for kids!

We had such a wonderful stay at this home! We looked at homes closer to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, but after exploring those areas, we are so glad we chose this house up in the mountains close to Asheville. It was close enough to drive out for a dinner or to pick up take out. But we still felt remote and private and very quiet! Our kids (ages 5-8) loved the kids bedroom, the playhouse outside, the backyard, and the hottub. We loved sitting and listening to the breeze in the trees and the watching the distant mountains. It was so restorative. We took day trips to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and explores Asheville. If you have younger kids, the gates around the house and on the decks will bring peace of mind that your child won’t be able to wonder off or fall down stairs. This wasn’t the most “decor and designed” house of the ones we were considering, but we felt it was very comfortable and homey and the other benefits outweighed any of its deficits. Rodney’s suggestion to eat at White Duck Taco was spot on and that place goes in my Fish Taco top 3 for any place ever in my life. We also enjoyed Cornerstone for breakfast which was not far from the house. Thanks Rodney and Katie! We loved our stay!

Everything was good. We are older couple with back problems and the stairs were hard for us. But fine for others younger. The fenced yard was not adequate for my dog to be let of leash to run about. Hot tub was wonderful. I brought items i did not need as they provided everything. Just needed a bar of soap but you would want your own anyway. Very clean just needs a dusting of fans and furniture.

About the host

Hosted by Rodney Clark

Host profile image
My wife and I lived in the house from February 2008 to September 2015. We've had two children in that time and we still live in Asheville. We are both geologists, which is why you may find various unique rocks on display throughout the house.

Why they chose this property

This home has all the convenience of town (less than 10 minutes to downtown), but is tucked away in a forest/ mountain setting just outside the city limits near the Blue Ridge Parkway/MST trail. We have seen a lot of wildlife at the property in Spring, Summer and Fall. I like to paint, so there is a Dr. Seuss themed mural in the kids room and a few other original paintings in the house. The yard is enclosed, so you can let the dogs run free, if they are not climbers/jumpers. True for kids too.

What makes this property unique

It ultimately came down to the fact that I could not paint over the mural I painted in the kids room, so we decided to rent the house as vacation rental. We sincerely hope you find the happiness that we found in our years at the house!
