About this property

History and Charm in Old Town Chania

Conveniently located in the heart of the Old Town, this central studio offers history and charm in an authentic setting. The ground floor of a traditional Venetian-era home, visitors can enjoy the privacy of their own home while living among locals.
The apartment has been carefully restored in a way not to alter its traditional architectural elements and details, at the same time keeping an eye on style and creativity. We promise this is no "cookie-cutter" apartment, instead it is an ode to tradition together with originality and comfort!
Our philosophy is to offer a comfortable and clean refuge within the Old Town and city of Chania for our guests to use as a base to explore the best our island has to offer. One can choose to be car-free and on foot here, as the place is walking distance to everything--shops, restaurants, supermarkets, outdoor markets, beaches, the Venetian Harbor, major archaeological sites, and museums, as well as public transportation options to take you all over Crete. For those who prefer to be on their own timetable and tour with a car, there are also nearby car rental agencies to rent a car for some days or all of them!
The apartment itself is an introspective serene refuge, with two windows (positioned above eye level) in addition to the large window with original ironwork above the door (plus the door windows) that all let in light. The windows all have screens in them to keep the bugs out and are double-pained for sound and weather proofing. The apartment offers a loft area with a hand-crafted reclaimed wood Queen sized bed (160x200) with comfortable mattress, a living area with a sofa, which opens up into a double bed, for one (or two small) people, a dining table, a fully equipped kitchen (featuring a half-fridge, stove with oven, microwave, Nespresso coffeemaker, French coffee press, water boiler, all necessary plates, cups, and utensils, basic stock kitchen items such as olive oil, salt, pepper, coffee, tea, and more).
The kitchen and bathroom are semi-basement, a few steps down (kitchen is open plan, so it ensures an airy and light feeling).
There is free unlimited wi-fi internet in the apartment, and a Bose bluetooth speaker for guests to enjoy their streaming music and news programs. There is also a new smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The apartment is located on the ground floor of our Venetian era house, (our entrance is directly next door). The house is located on a quiet corner of a lively area--it is quite festive with people out and about at all times enjoying life outdoors! This means there can be some "people noise" at times, but being a protected pedestrian area, there are no cars, which is a great treat, the occasional motorbike only.
The front doors open up to the cobblestoned street, where we have placed a small cafe table and one can sit and watch the neighborhood go by from there!

Things to note:
This is a self-catering personal apartment, and not a hotel. This means I personally do not provide any services such as cleaning during one's stay. If you are interested in house-keeping however I can recommend a very reasonable professional!
There are two laundromats minutes from the house for either self-serve or full service laundry. The apartment has a clothes hanger and hand washing detergent as well as pods for the laundromat.
Prospective guests: In order to accept your booking, I require your passport number once you have booked the apartment in order to submit my earnings for taxes!
In the colder temperatures of winter we offer heating used at your discretion. Heating costs are charged separately according to usage.

Neighborhood:
Plateia Rouga is a lively and charming little courtyard in the heart of the locals part of the Old Town. This area, just behind the Municipal Agora covered market, is an authentic part of the Old Town and minutes away from beautifully inspiring walks on the iconic Venetian Harbor of Chania. It is surrounded by delicious and creative restaurants and tavernas, and in the cobblestoned pedestrian streets surrounding it one can find cafes, bars, and nightlife for all ages and gustos.
This is a place to come to feel the vibrant life of the Old Town, while surrounded by history and the depth of time.
This apartment is perfect for public transportation and walking, the central bus station is walking distance at about 10-12 min away! There is a car and motorbike rental agency a few minutes away by foot, for day trips out of town, which also offers a free garage spot. The town of Chania also has a free bike system where visitors can borrow a bike for several hours at a time with their credit card.
Parking for cars can be a bit of a challenge being that we are in the heart of the Old Town, which is mostly pedestrian, although it can be done with some luck and patience (I can help you-please note that all traffic and parking violations are your own responsibility, however) . There is a garage one can use a minute from the house for about 8 EUR per day, however, and when that is full another garage with guaranteed space 10 min away.
