This was by far the best VRBO we have ever stayed at. It is a magical location on the side of a beautiful mountain. The bedroom windows are wonderful. Will come back as many times as the host will have us. If you want a wonderful Japan trip, this is the place.

We LOVED our month stay in this beautiful home. The location is beyond ideal -- excellent access to public transportation if you want to get to central Kyoto, yet far enough away that you can enjoy the best of Kyoto's culture, natural beauty, and local food in peace and quiet. Easy walking access to most amenities, and the best part is the "backyard" of Funaokayama Park. The house itself is perfect for a family; plenty of space to spread out if you need to work/school remotely, and open, light-filled spaces to gather together. There's even a loft-style nook that our son loved as a study corner! Well-appointed kitchen, a Japanese-style deep ofuro tub in the bathroom, and very comfortable beds with plenty of linens made for a luxuriant stay. The property also comes with 2 bikes for guest use, which was a huge bonus. The hosts are excellent and friendly communicators that respond immediately to any concern, and have obviously put a lot of thought into making this house into a real home. We are already talking about when we can return!

Fantastic month in Kyoto - July 2025

This was a truly fabulous place to call home for my one-month stay in Kyoto. The home is ideal in all ways possible, including comfort, esthetic appeal, and location. While in main part of the house, all the back side looks out on to a lush forested hillside, making it feel like you are in a tree house - making for a peaceful retreat in a dynamic city. Location is enhanced by being steps away from all major bus lines directly connecting you to all the major attractions of the city. Could not have asked for better hosts; proactive, communicative, generous (i.e., made multiple bicycles available), and sharing insights in to all the local resources (i.e., markets, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. ). This is a special place; already planning to return next year!

We had a wonderful stay for one month in this house! It has a beautiful light and is calm. Our small kids were enjoying the multiple floors and the cozy couch corner. We were also playing music with the music recorder. All was clean and it had all what was necessary. I only missed a rice cooker, but was able to lend one from my grandmother. The only point I could mention is that if you like to sleep in a dark room there is no possibility to make it dark. For us it was no problem, but the kids woke up early because of it. So we went to bed earlier and lived more with the sun. Otherwise the location is great. We used to go to the funuoka onsen which is walking distance away to have a traditional onsen experience. There are lots of great restaurants around. We would really recommend this house!

Modern House and Amazing Hosts

We stayed at this property in Kyoto for over a month with our family, and it was a wonderful experience.The house is truly unique in several ways. Unlike many traditional homes in Kyoto, this one is modern, spacious, and features a pleasant green area toward the back, which brings a refreshing touch of nature — a rare combination in the city. One standout feature is the private parking space, which was incredibly convenient, especially given how difficult it can be to find parking in Kyoto.The location is quiet and residential, ideal for a longer stay, while still being close enough to shops, tourist spots and public transport. The home was well-equipped for our family’s needs and made for a very comfortable base to explore Kyoto.The hosts were extremely professional and responsive. For example, when we noticed a minor leak, they addressed it immediately and had it resolved fast.We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a stylish and practical house in Kyoto. Would certainly come back.
