About this property

Peaceful modern traditional house 5mins-walk from station "Uan/Hoshi"

"Uan" is a charming cluster of 5 houses surrounding a quiet courtyard. This is one of the newly renovated modern traditional houses, "Uan/Hoshi". The house was built more than 100 years ago and recently renovated for a vacation home. The house still has an old atmosphere of Kyoto and provides the latest furnishings. It is fully furnished and all necessary appliances will be provided.

The Hoshi (星) House is a two-story house of 50 m2 and fully renovated in 2018. There is the full kitchen(cookware, dinnerware, seasonings, a microwave, a toaster oven, a rice cooker, a hot water kettle and more), washing machine/dryer, washing detergent, utilities, and home appliances. Of course, fresh bed/bath linen and toothbrush are provided. There are two bedrooms. 1 double bed in the western style bedroom, and 3 futon sets in the tatami room.

Located in 5 minutes walk from Higashiyama station in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto.

The Higashiyama area is considered the most Kyoto like place in Kyoto. If you are interested in temples, the most prestigious Zen temple in Japan called Nanzen-ji is near the house. Also, Heian shrine, Shoren-in, Chion-in and Yasaka shrine are within a 5-10 minute walk from the houses. You can also walk to Gion area to the downtown in Kyoto.

The house has all amenities listed, with the exception of a "hot tub", I think they mean bath tub. The space was perfect for two could easily and comfortably accommodate 4. Location is great, a ten minute walk to the train station, with two Lawson's en route. The property manager is very responsive, kind, and knowledgeable about the area. Have a great recommendation for delicious tonkatsu. We had a great time at Uan House!

Perfect home base

It's a beautiful apartment with all the amenities one would want and in a quiet residential neighborhood that's convenient to public transportation. Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful and always replied promptly to communications. I hope to revisit beautiful Kyoto in a different season and will definitely plan to stay here again.

Amazing

The hosts were so helpful and responded quickly and thoroughly to all of my questions. The home was very clean, quiet, and spacious. Felt very authentically “Japanese”. Really great location and peaceful neighborhood! Washer dryer is a big plus, although the dryer takes a really long time. Bedroom AC doesn’t work but all the others do (at least when we were there). Highly recommend!

An Outstanding Way to Experience Kyoto

Our family stayed at the Hoshi House and we absolutely loved it! The house is part of a small complex in a quiet historic neighborhood, a short walk from Maruyama park. The house has been beautifully restored and is perfect for those seeking tranquility after visiting Japan's more busy urban cities. The hosts were incredibly gracious and friendly and gave us a tour of the house and recommendations for local attractions. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! We would return in a heartbeat if we visit Kyoto again. Thank you Kei and Satoru for an amazing experience! ありがとうございます!

Cute tradition style house in Kyoto

It was very easy to communicate with the owners about the property in perfect fluent English, and the house was very nice and pretty, stocked with amenities, and was a relaxing and comfortable space for my partner and I to use while exploring the Gion area and taking nearby transit to other parts of Kyoto! The air conditioning worked well, and the washer/drier was highly convenient for laundry purposes. The second floor might be difficult for anyone with mobility disabilities to access, since the stairs are a bit steep and narrow, and even a little slippery. I would recommend this space to anyone in general though, and wish I could've stayed longer than two nights!

Wonderful traditional Japanese house

We loved our stay in the Hoshi house! The location was just to our liking, a nice quite local neighborhood with lots of culture! Subway and bus stops were only a 10 minute walk and a short walk to Yasaka Shrine. While we wandered that direction we stumbled upon Shoren-in Monzeki & Chion-in Temple (which easily became our favorite). Due to the location we could stroll down at times when the crowds were gone. I was initially concerned how my back would tolerate the futons on the tatami mats but they were incredibly comfortable, so much so I abandoned the western bed for them! The house was spotlessly clean and the owners were very accommodating meeting us at our arrival and giving us a rundown of the house. Easily our favorite stay in Japan!

We loved the location in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to many Kyoto attractions and to subway and bus stops. The beautiful homes have lovely traditional Japanese elements as well as modern amenities. Communication with the owner’s staff is excellent! Highly recommend!

Die Lage der Wohnung ist für kulturell interessierte Menschen sehr gut gelegen. Ruhige, echt lokale Wohngegend aber mit guten und schnell zu erreichenden öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln.Das Haus ist schön nach lokalem Wohnstil eingerichtet, sehr sauber und gepflegt. Die Ausrüstung mit Geschirr und Kochgerätschaften ist ausreichend aber knapp. Die Freundlichkeit, Hilfsberetschaft und der Service durch die Kontaktpersonen und das Servicepersonal war außerordentlich gut. Wir haben uns in der Wohnung sehr wohl gefühlt. Vielen Dank an Mika für die immer schnelle und freundliche Reaktion auf Rückfragen.

We stayed at Hoshi for 4 nights and every aspect of our stay was wonderful. We had a lovely welcoming by Satoro who showed us around the property and how to use the facilities (the all in one washer/drier was a real bonus for us after being in Japan for 5 days, already. We would stay at Hoshi again if lucky enough to return to Kyoto. It really is in the best location. What a beautiful stay we had. Thank you.

The house is a typical Japanese house with all the upgrades.Perfect size for 3 people, the kitchen is very clean and the washing machine was a plus.( detergent provided and dryer integrated)The rooms upstairs were perfect. We loved sleeping on the tatamis.Philosophers path was walking distance.We took taxis to go on the West side on the town.Definitely coming back to Kyoto and to this house.

Amazing stay

We loved our stay in this beautiful house with great amenities. A fantastic location, close to many temples, gardens and cafes. The hosts were very accommodating and gave clear communication for the check in. There are also amazing forest walks nearby that pass through a number of less visited temples. We hope to return some day soon.

Serene Locale and Great Hosts

We spent five nights here and cannot overtstate how great the experience was. Satoru and Mika were very responsive and clear with their communication. They made us feel welcomed right away. We did not get to meet Kei, but he was very generous with a welcoming gift that we quite enjoyed. The place is a lovely little home. It was just the two of us, so the upstairs was very spacious with one of us in the bedroom and the other using the futon in the main room. Both sleeping accommodations were comfortable and we slpet very soundly after all the walking we did! The kitchen had everything we needed. Washer/dryer was a huge plus, and the shower was incredibly relaxing. The area itself is so charming. If your looking for a quiet, lush slice of Kyoto this is the spot. There are so many shrines to explore and we found a lot of places to eat by walking around. If you want a little more lively experience, its only about a 10 minute walk to the river where there are tons of places to enjoy yourself. As first timers, we can't reccommend this place enough. If you're returning, you absolutely must stay in Higashiyama. Thank you again to Kei, Satoru and Mika for welcoming us in and making our stay so easy. Such a lovely place!
