The Mountain House - This lovely, rustic cabin features 4 bedrooms and modern comforts. Nestled in Rothrock State Forest, you're less than 1 mile from Whipple Dam State Park and 12 miles from State College. Perfect for those who enjoy outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, biking, skiing, or snowmobiling); and for families and friends who want to spend time enjoying the activities and amenities in State College and the Penn State campus.

The 4 cozy bedrooms include two rooms each with a full bed, one room with 2 twin beds, and one room with a queen bed. The full bathroom and primary bedroom are located on the main floor.

Enjoy a meal, play games, or relax with a drink while listening to the birds on the large, screened-in porch on the side of the cabin. You can even bring your air mattress (or bring out one of our extra mattresses) and sleep out there - enjoy camping in the woods with indoor plumbing and without the bugs! Another screened-in porch along the front of the house provides additional relaxing, entertaining, and storage space. The main living space includes a fully-equipped, well-stocked kitchen with seating for 4, a large dining area (seats 8), and plenty of seating in the great room. The lofted upstairs features 3 private bedrooms. Pets and events are conditionally allowed. The parking areas outside allow for plenty of cars, including a camper, RV, or boat. All linens and towels are provided.

We are pet-friendly! Bring your dog (2-dog maximum) for an additional $50 per stay. Please let us know upon booking if your pet will be coming with you.

Are you planning to go to the football game or thinking about spending the day at the nearby beach? We have you covered. We offer a $100 tailgate/picnic package with tent, table, propane grill, utensils, chairs, and much more - you just provide the food! Let us know upon booking.

We had such a great time at this cabin! The cabin was very clean and cozy and had everything we needed. The hosts were very responsive and left instructions that made it easy to use amenities and check out without issues. We were able to use ride share to get back and forth from downtown state college. The property and location were beautiful and peaceful. Definitely will stay again!

We stayed here for PSU family weekend and comfortably slept 3 adults and 3 children (two of whom are the size of adults). They have thought of everything here! Kitchen is fully stocked for making a family dinner…rooms are super clean…and beds are cozy! There are two screened porches, which were a lovely place to have coffee in the morning and read a book. Owner was great and communicated with us leading up to our arrival, even giving us ideas of things to do. And the drive to State College was only 20 minutes! We will definitely be back!

I did NOT want to write a review about the coziest cabin EVER because I selfishly want to keep everyone else unaware of how incredible this home is!! Our family had the most amazing weekend here. Ample cozy quilts, comfy beds, yummy coffee on the screened in porch, cooked stickies (a thoughtful gift from the host), beautiful trees, ample space for our teens and their friends, snacks galore provided by the host, close drive to PSU. Everything was perfect! I wish we could have stayed for a week and explored the surrounding area. Next time!!! We will definitely stay here again!! Fingers crossed that this amazing cabin will be available because the best kept secret like this place won’t stay hidden for long!

This cabin has been owned and enjoyed by 4 generations of my family since my grandfather built it in the 1950s. We have used it in every season, taking advantage of the proximity to numerous outdoor activities (you can walk to a beach - in central Pennsylvania!), as well as an easy drive to State College and the Penn State campus.
