Maple Cottage - Cheery Ridgetop Home in Mt Jackson, 3 Acres and Mtn Views
Welcome to our bright and cozy home nestled amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. Perfect for families, nature enthusiasts, and remote workers, Maple Cottage offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With 3 wooded acres, firepit, deck, books, games, toys, TV, and a work space, the cottage offers a peaceful respite and cheerful homebase to explore local attractions including skiing, hiking, caverns, golf, vineyards, and Shenandoah National Park. Dogs welcome.
DETAILS Just 2 hours from Washington, D.C., our home offers comfortable furnishings and warm, cheerful décor. The small house is well designed, with multiple sleeping options (2 bedrooms, den, and living room) despite its intimate size of 700 square feet. You will have full private access to the entire property, including a spacious gravel parking area for multiple vehicles or an RV.
Relax in the cozy living room and enjoy a family movie or game night. Prepare a meal in the fully equipped kitchen and share a picnic on the patio. Rest under the stars in the hammock or while roasting marshmallows around the firepit. Enjoy sunrise coffee on the deck with beautiful views and sounds of nature. Or stay snuggled in bed with plentiful pillows and covers, reading a favorite book in the warm lamp light.
Children love to play or watch TV in the small den and explore the woods and yard. Remote workers enjoy the speedy internet, dedicated work space, and peace and quiet for focus.
To one side of the property, you can see the driveway to our neighbor's cabin in the distance. To the other side, you can see a small A-frame. A few lights (or houses, in the winter), may be visible in the distance through the trees. It is a wonderfully tranquil and forested mountain community.
Please note: - The cottage is on a gravel road at the top of the ridge. A front-wheel drive is recommended. During winter months, an all-wheel or 4-wheel drive is essential if conditions are at all icy or snowy.
- Two steps lead to the front porch. Bedrooms and half bath are on the second floor, via a short but steep carpeted staircase with a firm handrail. A pullout couch bed and full bath are on the first floor.
- Much of the property's 3 acres is on a steep wooded slope behind the house. There is still plenty of flat terrain on the ridgetop. You are also welcome to explore the slope if you don't mind the grade!
- The cottage does not have a separate dining room. There are 2 bar stools and counter space in the kitchen, and 4 folding TV trays in the living room. When the weather is nice, we enjoy dining outside at the picnic table or deck table.

Great location for disconnecting and relaxing. About 20-30 minutes from some great hiking spots. House is stocked with everything needed, including spices and cleaning supplies

It’s is my favorite place to relax. I totally forget I am just 2 hours away from DC and NOVA! Great to hear you found some nice hikes!
The house was so great! Perfect for my best friend, her 2.5 year old, and I for the weekend. There were so many thoughtful touches, lots of lighting options, welcome snacks, coffee, gorgeous view, and the BEST toys and books for kids!!! It was rainy one of the days, but no worries! The house was so warm and cozy and the 2.5year old had a blast playing with all the toys. Highly recommend coming to visit!! It’s such a perfect escape!!!
Loved the privacy and seclusion of the cottage and the amenities. All we needed to bring was our own food. Everything you could want was provided. Perfect weekend or even longer getaway from the craziness of the city.
This place exceeded our expectations. It was cozy, well stocked, and extremely clean! White socks on the floor clean! We loved the little touches, snacks, pet supplies, hammock and all the things that made it special. We made a huge fire in the firepit and cooked on the grill as well. Everything we needed was there. Our only regret, we couldn't stay longer.

I am so glad you liked it and that you found everything you needed!
We had a wonderful stay at Maple Cottage in December. The amenities exceeded our expectations and the whole place was so comfortable for us and our dogs. We cooked so much in the kitchen with the array of pots, pans, utensils, etc available. Some of our favorite spots were the front porch and front yard with the dogs, the back deck in the morning, and the main room on the first floor for games, relaxing, and watching movies. We had a very quiet, peaceful time there. Ramona was an exceptional host with very thorough information about the place every step of the process. Any questions we had were answered either through the booking info or in the binder in the living room. Thank you for opening your home to us, we hope to come back again soon!
Originally from North Carolina, I live in Arlington, VA with my husband, three kids, and two pets. I love family, community, animals, nature, books. Maple Cottage is a very happy place for us - we look forward to hosting you!
