Cottage was great and accurately captured in the pictures shown on Vrbo. We loved the solo boats and enjoyed the peace and quiet of bass lake! A fun family stay
very clean, and decorated beautifully. Wifi was spotty (only down side)

Thank you very much for your kind words about the cleanliness and décor of the property. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay.
As for the Wi-Fi, we provide Starlink, which is the highest-quality internet service available in this region of the woods. It’s premium high-speed and typically very reliable, though on rare occasions performance can be impacted if multiple devices are connected and streaming simultaneously. We apologize if it felt spotty during your visit and appreciate your understanding.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the future!
We had an great time at the cottage. The kids loved fishing off the dock and we all made use of the kayaks and paddle boat. The fridge was a little small for 12 people and the depth of the water for swimming was disappointing. A great place to get away from it all.
The main cottage and two bunkies worked very well for our extended family gathering of six adults and two kids. Because the living/dining/kitchen area is fairly small it would be a squeeze to be indoors in extended bad weather, but the outdoor decks and lake are fantastic. We had a great stay.

Exactly what we were looking for ... a wonderful charming cottage with everything we needed. Lots of space for everyone and the bunkies are great for spreading out. We love the fall and did enjoy a little quieter time of year. All had a great time in the water and we did some fishing ... everybody had a great time. Will make this a regular family gathering !!

Thank you Susan for the great review and for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy! We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and had a great time at Bass Lake. All the best to you and your family. We hope to welcome you back in the near future.
The Bass Lake house was everything and more. Always something to do - from kayaking, canoeing, or relaxing on one of the many loungers. On a rainy day, curling up on the couch and watching Netflix will definitely book it again.

Hi Michelle,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are glad you enjoyed Bass Lake as much as we do. We hope to welcome you and your family back soon!
We stayed here for a week in early July. There were 5 adults and one kid. We had an awesome time. The cottage is well-appointed and spacious. With the two bunkies, our group had lots of space to relax and enjoy the week. The beds were all super comfy. We enjoyed cooking outside on the grill and spending our days relaxing on the spacious front desk and loungers. Only complaint all week was the bugs! Pack your bug spray... the deer flies were hungry. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely be back. Mark was an amazing host - great communication and easy to reach if we needed anything.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We’re really glad to hear your group had a relaxing and comfortable week at the cottage, and that everyone had plenty of space to unwind with the extra bunkies. Bass Lake is definitely special in the summer — bugs included — so we appreciate the reminder about bringing along the bug spray!
We are still looking into what can be done about those pesky deer flies this time of year. One of my TikTok followers mentioned having the same issue around their property, and they recommended hanging small disco balls as the deer flies don’t like the reflections. We’re planning to give that a try next season!
It was truly a pleasure hosting you all, and I’m grateful for your kind words. We’d be happy to welcome you back anytime for another stay.
We had a great stay at this cottage as a family. The seating outside was wonderful to enjoy watching people swim and to enjoy our meals together.
The kitchen was well stocked and didn't need to bring anything. Lots of dishes for a a family of 12.
Lots sleeping available and comfortable beds.
Mark was a very responsive to any questions we had prior to the stay and during the stay.
Would highly recommend this accommodation.
We really enjoyed our stay. Lots of kayaks and canoes were so comfy. Lake is calm and quiet. Comfy beds. Outdoor grills were fun and great.
Internet worked great and Netflix and prime all set up. Enjoyed our stay and the outdoor picnic tables were great for our birthday party. Frogs and chipmunks made for lots of entertainment for the boys.

Mark's place is a lovely peaceful place to stay. A very beautiful and quiet area. Their home is spotless and well supplied with everything. The kayaks and canoes were a wonderful addition for our visit as we utilized them many time during our stay. Loved the bunkies! My grandson throughly enjoyed the opportunity to sleep in the upper bunk of the bunky with his mom. Mark thank you, our stay at your home was a wonderful experience for all of us.

Hi Sharon,
Thank you once again for choosing to stay at our cottage for your summer vacation! We appreciate the great review and thoughtful comments. We absolutely love spending time there and glad that you and your family created some great memories and experiences.
With Gratitude,

Beautiful cottage, lots of room and has everything for kitchen and enjoying the waterfront. Easy to catch small fish and frogs from dock, very shallow but when you swim out there are large flat rocks to stand on and then drops deep on other side. Great with our dog with screened in porch and loops on dock to attach rope.Plenty of space for extended family. - not that we needed it. One bunkie had nice mini couch with tv and lots of dvds to give the teens their own space.Very accessible with ramp from one side of cottage, easy to get onto back deck and grab bars in washroom. Lots of plastic chairs and loungers, noodles… paddles, lifejackets etc. Nice and quiet.. good privacy from the world. Couldn’t have fires because of fire ban but otherwise perfect!

Fun weekend with friends
Property was clean and as showed in the pictures. Mark was friendly and was extremely helpful upon checking to answer any questions I had opening the cottage. The cottage itself is very close to neighbouring cottages, being right on the lake sound carry’s easily. Some of the beds only hold up to 140lbs, meaning if we had any more people up for the weekend, there would have been no more room to sleep. Would be a absolutely fantastic place for a family to stay!

Hi Christine,
Thank you for leaving a review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Bass Lake. Our cottage is situated on 1 acre of land far from our immediate neighbours. Our lake is small and quiet, meaning noise can travel if the music is loud and people are yelling on the property as well as in the dock area.
In terms of the 140 lbs weight limit. I am assuming you are referring to the top bunk beds. They are for small children. Our cottage sleeps 13 adults which are 2 to a bed and one single pull-out in the middle bedroom. If you had more than 13 adults staying, then you would be over capacity. Thank you once again for choosing to rent our cottage. Perhaps a different location may better suit your needs in terms of parties and the ability to accommodate more guests.
Thanks,
The Jones Zaoude Family
View from the deck/dock is amazing, great quiet place for a vacation. Keep in mind the water is shallow even off the dock which was fine for us with small kids. The kayaks provided were great as the water was calm and great for water activities. The living room furniture is a little on the old side and a little tougher to get out of if you have older family members.
It is cottage country so make sure to pack the bug spray. Mark was very responsive and the place had everything you needed for cooking.
You can get some great sunset pics from the dock at night

Thank you Kyle for the great review! We are glad you and your family enjoyed a nice getaway at Bass Lake. The living room furniture is a bit nostalgic to our family. We love those couches but perhaps we can convince everyone to consider upgrading at some point. Thanks again and have a great rest of the summer!

My family stayed at Mark’s cottage 26Jun-3July - 2x 70+ yo, 2x 50+ yo, 2x 30+ yo and a 3 & 5 yo. We had a great time kayaking, canoeing and swimming with something for everyone to enjoy. The cottage and bunkies were clean and stocked with everything we could need. We had more than enough sleeping options (we all like our own beds) and enjoyed the privacy of the bunkies. All in all, aside from some rain and deer flies which are all part of the experience it was a perfect week in an amazing location. Thank you Mark for sharing this gem of yours and for your responsiveness and care before and during our stay.

Hi Jen,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Bass Lake! We are so glad to hear that everyone enjoyed their stay!
Great cottage! Well stocked of the essential kitchen items and outdoor activities including canoes, kayas etc.
I really love the setup in the backyard with the water access especially with the little "beach" entrance to it. The bunkies were a nice addition as it is added privacy away from the main cottage if need be(ie taking care of a small child or a movie night without disturbing early sleepers).
Mark is a great host - very thorough and responsive to communication. He also seems like he genuinly wants feedback so he can further improve the place, which is refreshing to see.
I would absolutely love to come back to the bass Lake retreat. Thanks for hosting us, Mark!

The cottage is in a very remote area and has a good amount of room. We were a party of 6 adults, 1 teenager & 1 child. The 2 bunkies were also a good size. The cottage had most everything we needed. I had overlooked toilet paper on the list of what to bring and there was none, so don't forget to bring some! Also, you will be surrounded by many trees and still water so be sure to bring plenty of bug spray! The mosquitoes & horse flies are thick in the evening. There is a screened in deck to sit in during Mosquitofest but put a damper on having campfires - Definitely bring full insect gear. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, lots of family time & the sound of loons.

Hi Karen,
Thanks again for choosing our cottage at Bass Lake for your summer getaway! We just installed 2 Flowtrons mosquito and bug traps to help keep those pesky bugs away. We are glad you enjoyed this little peace of paradise as much as we do!
Great location for a family getaway. Cottage was well equipped and clean. The flat top grill was amazing, especially for breakfasts. Did not like the fact that we had to make a trip to town to top off the propane tanks before leaving. I’ve rented many places and this was a first for me. Loved having the bunkies, it was a great experience for the younger generation. The new couch was lovely. I have to admit that it made me nervous, especially with having young ones around. I cringed every time someone sat on it. The lake was beautiful, not too many motorized boats. Ideal location for the kids to practice their paddling skills. Neighbours were friendly and informative with local activities and lake information. Mark was quick to respond to questions and very pleasant to deal with. Would book again in the future.

Hi Jamie,
Thank you for leaving us a great review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our cottage on beautiful Bass Lake :)
We are sorry that re-filling the propane tanks were a bit of a pain. It’s just that we are not able to replenish the supply regularly enough with both gas grills. We will certainly keep your feedback in mind for future. Perhaps us investing in larger tanks might work.
We are glad everyone enjoyed the new couch and appreciate you leaving the cottage impeccably clean. It was a not an easy decision to invest in brand new furniture while renting, but we did based on the comments from previous guests. We decided to provide something comfortable that both our family and guests will enjoy as the previous couches are lower to the ground and were very old.
Thanks again for choosing our cottage! Anyone is lucky to have you as their guest in our opinion!
With Gratitude,
Mark and Family
We arrived to what should have been a blissful week at a cottage. We were greeted by another family who had already moved their stuff in. As you can imagine, this was a disaster. Because we had booked through VRBO, the host told us we would have to leave. Six adults and four children under 11. We spent from 6-9:30 talking to VRBO in a Tim Horton's parking lot. No alternate Places to be found on the busiest week of the summer. No local hotels either. We had to drive back home. It was the worst experience possible.
VRBO was no help as there was not one other property available. DO NOT REWARD THIS HOST by booking with him. Please consider somewhere else. To top it all off, I have stage four cancer. Another chance may not come along. This host is terrible.
Secluded, Stunning views, comfy beds, lots of dishes, glasses, small appliances, etc. And most important for me, it was accessible. Hope to book again.
Great property and accommodations at a very fair price. Communication with owner was easy and reliable. Listing was accurate and we were very pleased overall with the rental. Would 10/10 recommend to others.

About the host
Hosted by Mark Jones
With over 25 years of experience in hospitality and project management, we turned our dream into reality—creating a peaceful retreat outside the city to enjoy with friends and family. Over the years, we’ve continually renovated and enhanced the Bass Lake cottage, taking on new projects each year to elevate the experience of relaxing in nature.
Why they chose this property
We chose this location for its perfect balance of accessibility and seclusion. Just a short drive from Toronto and surrounding municipalities, it offers easy access via the 401 corridor, Highway 407, and connecting routes to Northern Ontario. Yet once you arrive, you’re surrounded by nature—tucked away on a private lake with no public access, countless forest trails for hiking, ATVing, and snowmobiling, and the kind of quiet only a truly remote spot can offer.
One of our favourite features is the beach’s gentle, gradual entry, making it a safe and welcoming place for kids, pets, and families to relax and enjoy the water. We’re excited to share this little slice of tranquility with guests looking to unplug and unwind in every season.
What makes this property unique
Bass Lake Lodge earned its name from friends and family in 2017, and it’s stuck ever since. With over 25 years of combined experience in the hotel and construction industries, we brought our shared dream to life—creating a peaceful, private retreat away from the city.
What makes this property truly unique is the care, time, and thoughtful planning that went into every detail. We designed the lodge to offer all the modern comforts and conveniences you’d expect—while keeping the experience rooted in nature. From high-speed internet and fully insulated buildings to cozy spaces for relaxing and reconnecting, every feature has been intentionally included to enhance your stay—even in a remote setting deep in the woods.
Set on a private lake with no public access, Bass Lake Lodge offers a rare opportunity to unplug and recharge. Spend your days fishing, listening to the call of loons, watching chipmunks scurry by, or stargazing under the brilliant Bobcaygeon night sky. You might even spot a moose or deer on a morning walk. With its calm waters, gentle beach entry safe for kids and pets, and countless nearby trails for hiking, ATVing, or snowmobiling, the “lodge” invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and truly unwind from the pace of modern life.
