Like to compliment Susan on her communication and openness to offer suggestions to this newbie family as we vacationed to Maine. Was pleased to meet her in person as she is a lovely, warm person and her love for the property shines through! I felt honored to have the privilege to rent a property that her family has enjoyed for years and years!
Downsides: I can’t live here year round and my iPhone maps couldn’t figure out the location initially. It isn’t a fault of the house that my phone (and my husband) stink at directions. Listen to landmarks provided by host to locate. No bath tub, which we didn’t care about, but others might if young ones (upstairs bath has detachable shower head for convenience).
Positives: being a salt box, it is tall three story property, which means amazing views from three sides! It was comfy, well equipped (dishes/utensils, towels, bug spray even, bedding, washer/dryer, fans) and clean. There were 7 of us (3 generations), so the three floors with the lower level being a “bunk room” with three twin beds was perfect (kids room!). You could use as a separate space since stairway door locks and own entrance if choose to use. We never used the sofa bed though is one. The walkability to everything in town was such a huge bonus! Amazing! It is like the best mixture of a relaxing escape, but also a quaint and yet vibrant town full of great restaurants and shops. Not crazy crowded or overly touristy. You can even walk to catch a boat for a whale watching tour. It felt like stepped back in time to an old fishing village and yet modern conveniences, relaxation, & treats easily accessible. Being a short walk made it easy and enjoyable for my parents as well...and my lazy kids...and me after stuffing myself full of clams, pizza, popcorn, and ice cream from local places. You can just roll up that hill and enjoy the view from the house!
