ABOUT PINE LANDING, CLARKSVILLE & KERR LAKE

Pine Landing is quite unique compared to area rental homes. With five bedrooms and a sleeper sofa, and four full bathrooms, twelve friends and family can easily enjoy comfortable lake living. A gentle slope brings you to 800 feet of shoreline and a private dock for your exclusive use. Enjoy swimming and fishing from the dock, or park your boat at the dock. You can also rent boats from the local water sports companies.

For the tight-knit family gathering at the house, they will see the accommodations keep them together comfortably, each doing what they wish. Play games using the high-speed Wi-Fi, read a book in the sun room, whip something up in the large kitchen, lay out on the sun deck, gather in the screened porch to rock and get caught up with one another, be delighted by the brilliant 72" Sony Bravia Hi-Def TV with the Sony Bravia surround sound system, take a walk across the street to the cluster of apple trees where deer spend a lot of time, swim off the dock, or just take that well deserved nap.

Sometimes, it's a family inviting a second family to join together at Pine Landing for a much busier week. Pine Landing is ready. Swimming at the dock every day, check! Got a boat, bring it! Don't have a boat, we'll help you rent one for the whole week and you will keep it at the dock of the house every night. Tuesday night, it's Bingo at the Community Center supporting the Ruritans! Wednesday, back at Pine, it's pizza and game night in the sunroom! Early in the morning, the Dads and kids all get up early to go on a guided canoe tour, meanwhile the Moms go to the Amish furniture factory a couple of towns over. The history buff in the family can make tour reservations at a local gem they have on their list - Prestwould Plan.tation. Prestwould is the most intact and best documented pre-Civil War plan.tation surviving in Southside Virginia. If golf is your game, there's Kinderton Country Club featuring a Donald Ross designed course just five minutes from Pine Landing.

Perhaps your whole family is all about the lake - imagine the fun your family can discover at Pine Landing. You are at a huge, lake-front home where playing in the lake, getting out on a boat, and having fun in the sun is all there is on your agenda ... for the whole week. You've got 800 miles of shoreline and 49,000 acres of water as your playground. After a great day of family time outside, freshly tanned, you come back to the house and grill your favorite meal. The aroma coming off the grill sets everyone's appetite! Sit, relax, enjoy dinner, have that beverage and rest knowing everything is just fine at Pine Landing.

The back yard is huge with a sloping walk to the lake and your own private dock with ladder. There is plenty of water depth for your big boat and launching ramps are less than five minutes from the house. So, bring your whole family, your boats and jet skis, and get ready to have plenty of quality time together. Oh, the dog is welcome, too.

Whatever your plans, here is more about the house!

ABOUT THE HOUSE

The house has what we call the Main Level and the Cottage Level (which traces back to the house's history). In the 1950's after Kerr Lake was formed, just a summer cottage was on this land. Years later my family built a large house that incorporated the cottage into the plan, thus the Cottage Level and the Main Level.

The Main Level has all of the major parts of the home - living room, sitting area around the wood-burning fireplace (fireplace not available in the summertime), dining area, kitchen, screened porch, open porch with grill, laundry room, and a full bathroom in the hall. There are two bedrooms: the Main Master Bedroom, with en-suite, has a king-size bed, a 32' HDTV and DVD player, two closets, and French doors opening out to a deck with a lake view. The Main Second Bedroom also has a king-size bed, a 32' HDTV and DVD player, a large closet, and two dressers. Both of these rooms also have luggage stands to make unpacking easier.

The adults enjoy this Main level of the house. The living room boasts a wood burning fireplace (available when outside temperatures are 50 and below), the 72" Sony Bravia high definition TV coupled with the Sony Bravia home theater surround sound system, Amazon FireSticks for streaming TV, cloth and leather furniture. The kitchen is open concept allowing the cooks to remain involved with the action in the living room, or friends may join the cooks by sitting at the kitchen four-seat island.

About six steps down from the main living area you arrive on the Cottage Level in the sunroom which has plenty of seating, many books, and two sets of French doors that reveal an open, sunny deck with lounge chairs and end tables.

Off the sunroom, there is the entrance (with a door) to the cottage. You enter the cottage living room which has a large window looking out to the lake, plenty of seating, and a 42" HDTV with DVD. The kids can gather here - they have their own living room (that door comes in handy if they get too loud), three bedrooms and two full baths, and separate HVAC system. The showers in these rooms have pre-set temperature maximum control for added peace of mind.

The cottage master bedroom has a queen-size bed and en-suite bathroom; the second bedroom also has a queen-size bed and en-suite, and the third bedroom – which is Pine's fifth bedroom - has two twin beds. The twin bedroom shares the bathroom of the second bedroom by entering a different door (think of a Jack & Jill bathroom). The couch in the cottage’s living room has a unique pull out bed that inflates by using a special electric air pump and is available to families with 11 or 12 people (the air pump is provided to you when you pick up the house keys).

For a schematic of the house’s layout, see the photos section.

ABOUT PARKING

There is plenty of parking for cars and trailers because there is a large, circular driveway, and there is a spur off leading to the additional parking area by the garage (sorry, the garage itself is not available for use).

I am an American Sign Language/English Interpreter. When not working, I like escaping to Kerr Lake and getting out on the boat and jet skis. I have Dachshund and she goes with me everywhere, especially on vacation! The picture of above is my family out on Kerr Lake on a sunny afternoon.

Why they chose this property

Pine Landing has been in our family for many years and is perfect for us because it's just three hours from home. It's easy to get to, but remote enough that we really feel like we've gotten away from the hustle and bustle of busy cities. Small town America is the 'lap' of our country. Just like sitting on my Dad's lap as a kid, it's a safe, comfortable place to go back to over and over. It brings us great satisfaction to share Pine Landing with other families, knowing the house is giving pleasure and respite to many people.

What makes this property unique

The screened-in porch off the kitchen, overlooking the water, has got to be the most used space by my family and friends ... well, second to the kitchen. My gosh, how many hours we have spent there just talking and sharing with one another. We host a big group of friends every year for a gourmet cook-fest, now known as Cholesterol Fest because of the amount of butter so many delicious recipes call for. We began Cholo-Fest in 2003, loved every meal prepared, every calorie swallowed, and all those times spent with friends. Our philosophy of life is this: We work to live, we don't live to work.

When it is strictly a family gathering at Pine, one of the rituals we have is whoever gets up first starts the coffee and runs into town to pick up a Richmond Times newspaper. We all go to the enclosed porch, drink coffee, read the newspaper and watch the lake wake up. It's then that someone offers to make breakfast for everyone - usually pancakes or eggs and bacon is on the menu.

Then we plan out who's doing what that day. Is it boating, jet-skiing, antiquing in town, running over to South Boston (about 30 minutes away) to go to the movies or just hanging out at home?

At night, we usually cook in every other night, and eat out the other nights. We love grilling out - burgers, steaks, chicken or lamb chops. We lovingly call the grill "Grill-Zilla" because a friend once put lamb chops he had soaked in olive oil over night right on the grill. That caused a huge flame burst that singed a tree limb above the deck. He scared everyone at first, but once we knew he was fine he came inside and, like the tree limb, he was singed. That's when Grill-Zilla was born.
