Summary: Welcome to “Rockridge Ryokan”, our thoughtfully designed Oakland one-bedroom flat, overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden with peekaboo views of the Bay. With a blend of mid-century modern decor and Japanese-inspired aesthetics, the space is designed for those who appreciate attention to detail. Neutral tones and unique decor elements create a warm and inviting atmosphere. While the home offers a peaceful view, please note that a family lives upstairs, so there may be occasional noise.
The Space: The main living area is open concept, with a spacious layout that flows naturally from the kitchen to the lounge area. The sofa folds out into a comfortable, foam tatami-style queen mattress. In the living room, a flat screen smart TV with adjustable arms makes it easy to enjoy from any angle. The master bedroom features a hotel-grade California king-size bed and an expansive walk-in closet. A dedicated workspace in the bedroom is perfect for remote work. The table easily converts into a standing desk, offering flexibility and comfort throughout your day.
The en suite bathroom can only be accessed through the master bedroom and features radiant heated floors, a luxurious deep soaking tub, and a separate shower. The Clarino quartz countertops and soothing neutral tones add a spa-like finish reminiscent of a Japanese onsen—serene, minimal, and grounded in natural beauty. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances—including a dishwasher—and stocked with cooking essentials to prepare a great meal. Coffee lovers will find everything they need to brew the perfect cup, including a V60 pour-over setup, a classic French press, and a Bonavita drip coffee maker—each offering a different experience to suit your morning ritual. We’ve also stocked the kitchen with a Fellow Stagg EKG gooseneck kettle and a Fellow Ode burr coffee grinder to ensure precision and freshness in every brew.
Outdoor Areas: Enjoy morning coffee or afternoon reading in the serene garden, surrounded by greenery and thoughtfully designed landscaping. The garden offers both shade and sunlight, and is also a lovely space to work outdoors.
Guest Access: The flat has a private entrance accessible by one full flight of stairs. There’s an additional short stairway that leads down into the serene Japanese garden.
Other Things to Note: Nearby Amenities: We’re a 7-minute drive from the vibrant Rockridge area and BART. The V bus line to the San Francisco Salesforce Transit Center is a 15-minute walk. For your daily needs, a charming neighborhood market, local cafe, gas station, and plant nursery are all just a 15-minute walk away.

Dustin was a fantastic host. He was incredibly communicative and very helpful in ensuring that we had an amazing stay. This house was very clean and had so many nice decorative touches.
Our stay was outstanding. The apt is beautifully decorated, spotless ,spacious, and in nice neighborhood. The check in/out was easy as can be and we highly recommend!
Really nice well appointed home. Upstairs family was away so very quiet. Nice amenities like Aesop body balm. Really comfy bed, pillows and duvet. Delightful living space, parking outdoors available.

In a nutshell, and to be charitable, this was a profoundly imperfect stay. First, the inoperative oven, which was not fixed until two days into our stay, prohibited us from cooking, and more importantly, it obliterated our plans with family Friday evening. While I know these things happen, this was an owner problem, not ours. Yet, no consideration was given to the impact on our rental. Advertising a unit with no working oven or stove is a serious issue - one would think that'd be on the list to check before a new guest arrives.Second, the accommodations. My wife and I loved the décor and motif of the unit. On the other hand, this unit was marketed as an "entire home," but was in fact a bottom floor. Consequently, we heard every footstep, faucet, toilet flushing, conversation, phone call, crying baby, clanging dish - and highly likely the reverse. Had we known the walls and floor were porous, there was no sound abatement, and that this was not an entire home, we would not have rented the property. Last, the asserted restriction on guests on premises. The only information in the literature was that no "parties or events" could be held. Having my son and daughter and their infant children is not an event or a party. Yet, Dustin used that line to berate my wife when she was inquiring about the status of the oven, excoriating her that no family visits could take place - as "4 was the maximum." Strange.Owner should revise the description with far more honesty.
I stayed here for a few days because my daughter was admitted to UC Berkeley, and she was invited to a few events being held at the school for admitted students. The location of this place is very convenient as it is a 14 min drive from UC Berkeley. However, you won’t be able to walk from this place to Berkeley because you have to take a minor highway to get to the university. Regardless, this is a beautiful home with everything you’d reasonably need for a short stay. The host also kept great communication with me. They answered all of my questions in a timely manner. I’d 100% reccomend this place!
