Come experience “up north” in all of its rugged glory. Nestled among trails in the Hiawatha region of Munising, MI (next to Haywire Trail #8), The Log Cabin Retreat is also situated in very close proximity to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

This is the PERFECT location with quick access to everything the area has to offer. Enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing and ice fishing in the winter; hiking, ATVing, mountain biking, swimming, beaching, fishing and kayaking/canoeing in the summer. There is plenty to do in the area and the Log Cabin Crew is ALWAYS happy to help you out!

The Log Cabin Retreat is surrounded by 20 acres of private, wooded property. Luxuriate in solitude or enjoy Munising – your choice! The conveniences of town are just a short (10 minute) drive away. The famous Bear Trap Inn (restaurant and bar) is just 1/4 of a mile down the road: Our guests have always loved this place. Kewadin Casino in Christmas, MI is about a 20 minutes’ drive.

The cabin is quaint enough for one family, yet accommodating enough to comfortably host larger parties of up to 16. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms on the basement and main floor levels, plus a loft.

Park your snowmobile trailers and trucks in the large driveway – there's tons of space to pull in and pull out (no need to back up). Stoke up the fire and relax. Imbibe at the bar. Take in forest and wildlife views from the comfort of the deck. Cook up a feast on the gas grill. Roast marshmallows and enjoy each other's company around the fire.

The cabin is yours to enjoy during your stay. There’s plenty of room here to do what you like. Make memories; do things your way. The kitchen is fully stocked. The living room is plush. The basement is fully furnished; laid-back. All bedding, bath towels and toiletries are included.

Most of our guests are repeat guests… Come and find out why!

House and location met all of our needs. Group of 8 ladies used it as a home base between hiking, a Pictured Rocks cruise and chasing waterfalls. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen as we prepared all of our meals there.

Great Location and Wonderful Stay

Great location to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and other UP attractions. Family of 12 enjoyed our stay with plenty of room for all (easily could have fit more people comfortably). Check in process and access to assistance went smoothly. Thanks for having us!

Couples colors utv riding trip

The “cabin” is a great base camp whether your riding utv’s, four wheelers, or sleds. We had 4 couple doing our annual colors ride and the place was fantastic! Ample room for everyone and the bar was awesome! We will definitely be back!

Super nice

The property was great. The online description matched the real thing. The location is ideal as its vlose to Munising downtown as well as the Paddling Michigan kayaking checkin. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The appliances except for the coffee maker worked great. Ariana, the house manager was super responsive. I would recommend this propoerty to everyone.

Clean but a bit disappointing

The cabin was very clean however the dishwasher was broken, the beds were very creaky and extremely uncomfortable. There was board on the deck they nailed down to over a hole which created several of us to trip and stub a toe often. Also, the picture of the loft is extremely deceiving. Adults have to crawl on their knees because the ceiling is so low.

Great home-base for 3 active families

We were a group of 3 families - 13 people in all - including 5 teenagers and 2 kids. This cabin is secluded yet close to loads of stunning natural features of the Pictured Rock area. We loved the fire pit, the bar, the living/dining area, and deck. The ping pong table was a hit, and more than one person picked a few tunes on the guitar. Nice sound system with Bluetooth access. The cabin felt roomier than we expected and was perfect for our group. The decor and cleanliness were top-notch. The two bathrooms worked well for a group our size as long as we staggered. The loft of four beds was perfect for the four teenage boys. The cabin was quiet and private, adding to the fun of our 4-night stay. The cabin could use a new coffeemaker. Some of the basement rooms felt a little “basement-y” and would benefit from bedside lamps or nightlights. The cabin instructions say that SOME toilet paper and garbage bags will be provided, and beyond that the party is responsible. It seems like the group size and length of stay should be taken into consideration; we ended up picking up extra T.P., used grocery bags as back-up garbage bags, and just about ran short of dish-washing detergent. We would have rated the cabin 5 out of 5 if the consumables has not been a concern. The cabin came with very clear instructions for almost everything! In addition to garbage instructions, it would also be helpful to have instructions for recycling.

We were here with parents (grandparents) and teens for a mountain biking, hiking and boating trip to explore pictured rocks area and then head across the UP. The 10mile hike along the pictured rocks shoreline was absolutely amazing. This caving was fantastic — super comfy beds and plenty of space for our crew. Ample parking for our Silverado and boat trailer. We would highly recommended this unique property and hope to be back!

This was our second time staying at the Log Cabin Retreat (2018 with friends, 2025 with family). The cabin has a great location close to the trails and Pictured Rocks. It was well appointed with everything we needed, and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Guys Trip

Rented this cabin for a guys trip weekend. Everything was great except for a bit of water coming into the basement in a few spots due to the springtime melt. Other than that, the place was perfect, clean, and in a good location.
