A Little History:: In 1845, Burr Caswell moved to the area near the mouth of the Pere Marquette River as a location for fishing and hunting. In July 1847, he moved his entire family there and began a small community known as Pere Marquette Village… Later the community would be named after the industrialist James Ludington who owned some of the logging operations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Between the growth of the milling industry and the discovery of salt deposits in the area, an economic boom was created in Ludington. In 1892, it was recorded that 162 million board feet of lumber and 52 million wood shingles had been produced by Ludington sawmills. With tremendous commerce, Ludington became a major Great Lakes shipping port. Today, the community celebrates their rich history and provides an unbelievable setting for you while you are on vacation.

Fishing Year Round!: Fishing in the Ludington area is nothing short of spectacular. People brag about the stories on the big lake... but there is also everyday action the inland lakes and rivers. Here is what you can expect throughout the year:
March and April launch the spring season with Steelhead in the Pere Marquette River. The cool nights of April bring smelt dippers out and walleye season begins. Late April kicks off northern pike, musky and trout season. Brook, rainbow, and brown trout are running in the Pere Marquette River and along the Lake Michigan shoreline. May and June are great for charter fishing when brown trout, lake trout and Steelhead are prevalent. Fly fishing on the Pere Marquette River is also excellent this time of year. In July and August prepare yourself for king salmon and steelhead as the action is fast and furious for charters. Charters are abundant and many are directly across the street!
Fishing Year Round (continued...)
In September, thousands of mature salmon gather off the river mouths for their annual migration upstream… then October brings steelhead into the Pere Marquette River. With minimal boat traffic at this time of year, the catches are even better for anglers along the river bed or along the shore. No matter where you stay, you can bet you will have a blast!
Finally, throughout the balance of the winter, plentiful inland lakes provide an excellent setting for ice fishing. Come visit Ludington and stay at 'Marina Sunset'... Note that the Summer season requires a 7 night minimum.
Pool is seasonal and generally open from Memorial - Labor Day weekend. Subject to change without notice.
