About this property

The Hideaway of Ludington - Beautiful home in the downtown area

The Hideaway has been welcoming visitors looking to 'spread out' and relax on their vacation to this quaint town for years.

Our home was built in the 1800's and has stood the test of time and brings repeat visitors back year after year. We're located in a quiet peaceful neighborhood just 2 1/2 blocks from Ludington Avenue (the main street of Ludington) and just five blocks from the marina, lighthouse and large public beach that makes Ludington famous.

With its large size our home is great for large and extended families or friends looking to get together. Need a smaller unit? Contact us for details on renting just the upper or lower unit. We'll be happy to talk to you and explain these options.

Downstairs features lots of room with three bedrooms (king, queen, double), a spacious living room, formal dining room, large kitchen, laundry room and bath making it perfect for families, extended families or groups of friends.

The upper level consists of an eat-in kitchen, living room, bath, king bed in the master bedroom and a second bedroom attached to the master that consists of four singles beds and room for sleeping bags or air mattresses. This is perfect for couples, couples with small kids, or friends looking for an affordable way to enjoy Ludington.

Each year, visitors leave comments about their stay in a book for them to leave their memories. One thing is certainly true: the saddest part of the trip is when it is time to go. They love their stay in our home and enjoy the many wonderful options that are in walking distance to them: downtown and its shops, restaurants, bars and antique stores, the public beach, the lighthouse, and marina. Visiting the State Park is a seven mile beautiful bike ride with the water on one side and sand dunes on the other.

With an ice cream store and downtown in walking distance, kids love the ability to seek-out adventures or a scoop of ice cream on their own.

Each morning and evening, you'll hear the Badger car ferry sound its horn and if there is a bit of fog in the early morning or late at night, you'll listen to the sound of a lighthouse letting ships know where it sits.

We hope you'll enjoy your vacation in about as relaxing a place as we believe you'll find anywhere.

Sincerely,
Mike, Maureen and our children Michael, Matt & Kevin

It was a good stay but Needs to be a little more handicap assessable. Or noted in the listing. Needs to be advised that 4 of the beds are back in the attic and it’s hard for tall people to get through the door. The bunk beds in the first floor bedroom needs to be noted they are not for adults.

The home is large and very comfortable, plenty of common space to enjoy with family. Terrific communication experience with the host, and easily walkable to the beach, House of Flavors, and Ludington shops. The upstairs is essentially a connected small apartment, so there's additional privacy for some guests, if needed. Be aware that the upstairs shower is outside the bathroom, and the second dormer bedroom is accessed through the first bedroom, so a little less private than you might expect. Would recommend that level for a single adult or a couple, with or without small kids. All in all we had a wonderful week in Ludington staying here, and will rent here again if given the opportunity.

Great Weekend Getaway Stay with Friends

This home was just perfect for our friends to gather for a long weekend in Ludington for a wedding and reception. Neighborhood was friendly and the home was within walking distance from downtown shopping and food!

Charming Weekend Away!

We held a weekend retreat at this house and it was great for group gathering and separate times. Well stocked with kitchen supplies, bath stuff and towels. Very clean throughout the home upon check-in. Close to the beach and state park, this house would be ideal for a friends or family summer vacation too.

Wonderful Ludington location.

We enjoyed an excellent week in Ludington here. Great walkable location. The host gave timely and clear check in instructions and checked in when we briefly lost power. Downstairs portion of house has been mostly updated with comfortable beds and furniture, a nice kitchen and bathroom. Upstairs portion is less updated. Notably, the shower is in a hallway with no privacy which was an issue. No stopper in tub which made baths difficult. A small but nice backyard and paved quiet alley provided play space for 4 active boys. The table and chairs in the backyard were nice and shady in the afternoons for cocktails and dinner. Very walkable to downtown, and beach, although we found Ludington less busy than expected for our end of June vacation and usually drove to the beach… Stearns beach and our favorite Buttersville beach. A day trip to hike at Ludington State Park and fishing off the deck at the marina were a hit as was the putt putt across form Stearns beach and walking to the lighthouses. Also recommend eating at Jamesport Brewery…outdoor games while you wait, and the new Perch Restaurant on Hamlin Lake with great views. A wonderful family stay.

Great Location

This house had everything we needed for a great family vacation in Ludington! It is an older house, but there have been some updates (remodeled bathroom and kitchen and the bedrooms are in good shape). The only improvement we would suggest is some new living room furniture. It was very worn and uncomfortable to the point that it was difficult for my elderly mother to get in and out of it. Other than that, the house was well stocked, clean and had everything we needed. The location was also great. It was a quick walk or drive to the beach, restaurants and downtown Ludington.

Quaint

The house was clean, we only stayed in one bedroom and the bed was comfortable. The living room was a great disappointment the chairs and couch were well worn and very uncomfortable; we had to bring dining room chairs to sit in. There is an upstairs, that not realized we didn’t need to rent also, but really isn’t good for a rental itself. There has been updates made but there are things that need repaired

Great Location

Just a quick weekend stay for my wife and I. The house was far bigger than we needed, but that’s a good thing. The house is walking distance to all the downtown restaurants and shops. A quick drive to the State Park and Jack Pine campground and your on the trail to Big Sable lighthouse. If you haven’t made that hike, you should. Easy hiking with a bit more difficulty if you include the shipwreck. The patio was set up for hanging out and there was a variety of board games available. The main floor shower is beautiful and the updates are nice. Mike was good to work with through the booking process.

Quirky but suitable

Great value for the price. Plenty of room for our family. The house did smell musty in a historic house kind of way and allergens were high. I could only spend a few minutes at a time inside. The yard was lovely and a perfect place to relax in. The bed in the front bedroom was comfortable in a worn-in kind of way, but the queen bed in the next room was all springs. Note that amenities like coffee and shampoo are not supplied. Definitely not a deal breaker, but worth knowing. Location was perfect! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Uncomfortable in Ludington

Lack of air conditioning..... hot inside and uncomfortable. Portable AC unit in bedroom (only AC unit in entire downstairs) extremely loud. Inside needs updating and some TLC. Kitchen was the only room updated in this house. Matresses should be replaced. Glad we did not have to use the upstairs.

Would recommend!

We stayed here for a weekend during a pickleball tournament with our daughter, her husband and 4 kids. Mike was amazing to work with. They also do not have strict clean up instructions like striping beds and doing laundry before you leave. It was much appreciated with having to get all the kids packed up and out the door. Location - perfect! Halfway between town and the water. Easy walk to the House of Flavors (a must visit place if you are in Ludington!) Home - the house is 125 years and full of original charm. Please do not expect it to be new or have the appearance of a spotless new home. Both king beds were comfortable, but the linens were a little tattered. Our grands LOVED the upstairs bedroom with 4 beds and they could all stay together “like a sleepover”. Furnishings were definitely not new, but comfortable!!! Hands down the cow stool was the favorite of all the kids. This is an awesome layout if you have are a family traveling with grandparents. Our kids/grands took the upstairs and we had the main floor. Made for very peaceful morning for us ;) Overall - It was exactly what we expected. A great place to stay for the weekend. I would highly recommend :) Thanks for a great stay!!!

Had a great stay in Ludington. The house had everything we needed. What we liked best was the location. We took several family strolls to downtown, the marina area, and the Lake Michigan beach front, all just a few minute walk. We also took the opportunity to ride bikes from the house up to the State Park. We will definitely try to get back next year.
