Perfect eclipse site
Beautiful place, perfect for viewing the eclipse (except for some thin clouds). We had a family reunion here to watch the eclipse, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is very isolated on a long unpaved road. We hiked some of the trails and drove to the Frio River to go swimming. The kitchens are well equipped. The caretaker and owner were very helpful. Note: the mattresses are firm, so plan accordingly.

Great house!
Great house! Very comfortable and super private. The views from the porch made you want to sleep outside. It was gorgeous! Not seeing a neighbor at all was a big plus too. The kitchen and living room in the main area were HUGE. No dinning table but the stools around the kitchen counter worked fine for us. The couch and lounge chair were super comfy. The whole place has a log cabin feel that is super cozy and cute. The description on the house could use an update. The 'barn' where we stayed is all one building. Behind the first door you will find has two bathrooms, two bedrooms with queen beds, kitchen, and living room. The next door is a room with a queen bed. The next door is a bunk room with four bunk beds and another door. Through that door is a pool table room then another door leading to another queen bed in a bedroom. Worked out great for our party, the description just leads you to believe there are two separate buildings. But that could be how VRBO has to make owners list the houses. Literately the only thing bad I can say about the house is the two upstairs beds were a bit hard. They could use a foam pad or pillow top addition. My boyfriend folded up the extra comforter for my side of the bed and it was ok after that. They don't provide sheets or towels but the pillows, comforters, and extra blankets were very nice. The owner, Steve, is great to work with as is Mike the property manager. Mike is on sight so if you have any questions, he's there to help.

Scenic Overload
Do yourself a big favor and book this beautiful property for the whole week. Bring the family. There is so much to do and it’s all gorgeous. The kids were out side the whole time. There is so much more to do than listed, including a frog pond, tennis court, volley ball, basket ball, fire pits and so much more… Host was responsive and attentive, AC is super cold… Leave the iPhones and switches. Bring the binoculars, critter nets, goggles, skip-bo cards, flash lights, walkie talkies, beer and floaties…

Serenity
If you love the rugged beauty of the Texas hill country and want to take a break from the fast paced world, this is the place! The property is beautiful and the accommodations are spacious and comfortable. Lots of outdoor activities and nearby Garner State Park is a must! On the other hand, if you go into withdrawal if you can’t connect to social media, you should probably choose a different place. I did not have cell service at all. Others had some hit and miss signal. I myself enjoyed being disconnected for a few days.

About the host

Hosted by Steve Host

Host profile image
Susan and Steve Host are small business owners in Richmond, Texas.

Why they chose this property

Susan and Steve both vacationed at Garner State Park growing up, and always dreamed of having their own place. When they saw the property, they fell in love with it. They built all the structures on the property, and cleared the land. They have created a vacation place for their families and hope you enjoy it as much as they do.

What makes this property unique

Steve and Susan hand picked where to place the cabins for optimal views as well as to take advantage of the breezes that blow through the porches year round. They have taken a great amount of time, energy and care to make the property a wonderful vacation destination for you and your family.
