About this property
Perfect for 2 on Causeway Coastal Route! Near Giants Causeway, Golf Courses
Explore by day, relax by night in a spacious cottage designed for two on the bus route to Ballycastle.
We tried to think of everything that would make your stay enjoyable. A favorite is the comfy super king bed in the spacious bedroom! There is a Lavazza pod machine and an old style machine. In the lounge, we've provided wood and firelighters to get you started, so no need to pack wood in the boot! You can buy extra wood locally. And the leather seating reclines so you can put your feet up and enjoy the fire! In the large bathroom there’s a heated towel rack, and there's plenty of room for your toiletries. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washer-dryer for your clothes. Is there a freezer? YES - fridge/freezer.
The cottage gives you easy access to 20 miles of gorgeous, scenic coastline. You can explore the stunning North Antrim coast with its many ports, visit Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, the Old Bushmills Distillery.A short drive will take you to the Dark Hedges, or you can travel a little further to the Titanic Museum and the Ulster American Folk Park Museum in Belfast.
If you prefer public transport, there is a bus that passes the cottage every two hours year round, and more frequently in the summer. Check schedules for the 402 to Coleraine and 172 to Ballycastle.
History:
Ruby Stove Cottage has a long history of welcoming visitors to the area, with Sally and Mary Browne (my husband's aunts) offering a cup of tea to many passers-by over the years. They would sit on a bench at the front of the house, and chat with the passing neighbors or the summer visitors to the area. It was easier to walk the roads in those days, as tractors were smaller, and cars were slower and less frequent. There were also no tour buses rushing to the next destination. At that time, the cottage was known as Tonduff, which is the name of the Townland in which it is located.
The cottage has been in the Browne family since the early 1900's. The Brownes raised a family of five children in the original two-room cottage. Everyone worked together on the farm, and the next generations continue the tradition. Two brothers still have farms on the Causeway Road within a stone's throw of the cottage. It was always a hub of farm life.
Enjoy Golf? There are five 18–hole and three 9–hole golf courses within 12 miles of Ruby Stove Cottage. There are many other excellent golf courses within an easy drive.
