The neighborhood is in a good walking area, but a little desolate. The heating, cleanliness, water pressure, WiFi were all great. The kitchen was basic and the neighborhood didn’t have amazing food options, but it was a great launching pad for exploring Arcata, Clam Beach, Trinidad and the state parks.

Thanks for the great feedback! A few more blocks down we have great coffee shops-Ramones, Los Bagels, and Old Town Coffee and Chocolates plus some good dining such as The Sea Grill and Five Eleven. We hope you can come and explore with us again!
An old house with character! Interesting design with knocks and crannies. It was comfortable with lots of room for our family. It is located close to the Old Town area. We walked to Los Bagels for coffee and treats. Easy access to places we wanted to go such as Fields Landing, the Zoo and highway to the Farmers Market in Arcata and the Trinidad Beach.
This is a darling 100 year old house. My kids were in love with its character and charm. It’s centrally located for visiting the Redwoods. It was fairly clean and the beds were comfy. However, it is at the center of all things homelessness going on. The police set up cameras directly in front of this house for 24 hour surveillance—and I was so thankful! There was activity all night long—and 100 year old windows mean you hear it all. We mostly just slept here and were gone all day—which worked out great. If you’re looking for a house to hang out in and enjoy the neighborhood, this one’s probably not for you—unless you like mingling with “man who walks around playing loud music all night,” “fish-net Jane,” or “Mr. Defiant” who liked to stare belligerently at the police cameras several times a day. All in all, this property was great and served its purpose, but location was quite sketch.
This was a lovely home to stay in. Very cozy and perfect for what we were looking for. We stayed here so that we could spend our time hiking and exploring the red woods. We enjoyed a sea kayaking experience and enjoyed wonderful 4th of July fireworks all within comfortable driving distance from the house. The stove was very similar to the one my grandmother had in her home. It worked beautifully and was nostalgic for me. We enjoyed shopping in downtown Eureka and were pleasantly surprised with the amazing thrift stores and other boutiques. We also really enjoyed the doughnut shop that is just around the corner. They were so delicious and the real deal. This is a town on its way up again. That being said, the neighborhood is a bit adventurous. We, however, we always felt very safe at the house and while out in town. Being an adventurous family we have lots of funny memories that are sure to be family lore. You are sure to have a blast in Eureka. Great hosts! Very accommodating and communicative.
It's and old but cool house to stay. It was expected per the pictures and description. Had everything we needed inside for my group. However, the parking is just awful. You have to park on a main street and worry about homeless getting in your stuff. Seems there is plenty of space inside the gate to use for parking, but it's unavailable. If I would have known I would have driven my older car. I was stressed the entire time j was going to come out to broken windows on my new expensive car.
