About this property

San Juan Island, Three Coves Hideaway #111

*** This home is people friendly, and not pet friendly. ***

When you stay at Three Coves Hideaway, you’ll enjoy a San Juan Island location that is second to none. The home faces west over Haro Straight, so you will bask in amazing sunsets and have a view of the twinkling lights of Victoria BC at night. Oh, and since you’ll have a front row seat over the migratory route of our resident Orca whales, it’s very likely that you’ll hear them blowing and be able to watch them doing their whale thing right from your deck! Three Coves is also adjacent to beautiful San Juan County Park, a world-renowned destination for kayaking. A path leads from the property to the park so those so motivated might carry a kayak down a path that leads to the park. (Those less motivated might simply drive a minute or two to the beach.) There is also a path that leads downward to a private cove that is shared with a few nearby residences.

Couples and families will find this home spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is a chef’s dream, featuring granite counters, a deluxe gas stove, a large island capped with butcher block, and all the household items you need for meal preparation. The great room includes a dining table, elevated bar table, plush leather seating, a cozy wood-burning fireplace (BYOWood), and window seats focused to the view. The master bedroom is also on this main level, featuring a king size bed and en-suite bath with jetted tub, separate shower, and dual vanities. A powder room is also on this main level.

Upstairs, a large loft overlooks the living room below. This is where you’ll head to watch satellite TV, listen to music, and play a game of pool. One of the sofas opens to form a queen size bed. Two additional bedrooms are located downstairs. One offers a private deck and a second king size bed, the other bedroom is equipped with both a twin bed and a double bed. These bedrooms share a bath with shower and dressing table. A laundry/utility room is also on this lower level. It is impossible not to have an incredible vacation experience when you stay at Three Coves Hideaway.

Please note there are 13 steps to get to the entrance.

Beautiful Location

We enjoyed the beauty of this location. There is a deck with a fire pit just outside the great room. The billiard table upstairs provided lots of entertainment. The gas stove offered a few challenges and the electricity in the down stairs bathroom may be on a timer. Missing handles need to be replaced on the master bathroom shower and the deck needs minor maintenance. The property manager was helpful and offered immediate assistance. This is a lovely home that provides space and location for a group to have a wonderful time.

Fabulous Stay

My husband and I stayed here with our daughter, son-in-law and their two children. The house fit our needs perfectly. While there are a few maintenance items that need attending, the house as described. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and large. We cooked most of our meals there and very much enjoyed eating out on the deck. The view is spectacular from dining area, living room and deck. And, the easy access to the beach was great. We took our kayaks and paddle boards to the water via the county park next door. We had a terrific time! I would recommend.

Great place, great views

We (family of six adults) spent a week here in July 2023. Terrific views of Puget Sound and long-range view of Victoria Island. The island (San Juan) is essentially a rural island with a couple of population centers - Friday Harbor / small town and Roche Harbor is really just a resort with a few stores. Great hikes nearby. English Camp my fav. For the property itself - it was terrific. Big, lots of amenities. Kitchen is well stocked (except could use a couple of frying pans of reasonable size). The fire table is great. Fire pit could not be used when we were there due to county fire restrictions. There is a county park right next door and you'll occasionally hear some "campers" or parties of locals. Not too big a deal but the noise is there. The driveway is a challenge. Very steep and loose gravel. We had a heavy van and had to get some momentum going up the hill to make it onto the road. Not for the faint of heart:) They have an electronic keyboard - with a couple of song books. Fun. Billiard table is a fine one. Could have used some screens in the upstairs loft. 2 were completely missing. For some reason the bottom two bedrooms are very cold. We couldn't figure that one out. Lots of board games and books - fun. The deck is glorious - spent a lot of time there. We were very thankful for Leila from Northwest Island Escapes who answered our requests, provided supplies and even did our laundry when machines were down. Pricey? Yes. Great place.

Wonderful stay!

Great house with plenty of room for 7 adults. We loved our stay on the island!!! Highly recommend the house and the island to other vacationing families. Pros: - view and outside deck with grill and propane fire pit - comfortable beds - 3 bathrooms - indoor fire place - plenty of seating for everyone Cons: - while there were a lot of kitchen items most were very used, to the point of being unusable now. Everything is very spread out over many cabinets and drawers so we found ourselves searching for things often. There was everything you didn’t need and not a lot of what you do. That being said, we were able to cook every dinner there with some change in the normal pot or pan.

Horrible experience!

All 1 star only because I had tp put something in the box. I would of LOVED to stay at this property. I STILL would lOVE to stay there. That said - we made reservations Dec 8 2021 for a stay Mar 19-23, 2022. There were problems with the home (water damage) and although the damage was apparently discovered by the owner and the rental agency we were NOT informed before our departure. We had a message a few days prior to March 18 stating that the rental would be available March 19th as planned. Then we were told the rental was not available on March 18 as were driving from Montana to Washington. MARCH 18th!!!! WHILE WE WERE HALF WAY TO THE LOCATION! Distressing doesn't begin to describe how we felt - 7 of us in transit - children out of school - months of planning and a last minute oops. I know things happen and there are things that cannot be controlled but apparently the parties knew there was a problem and gave no indication to us of any issues until the last minute. A message that our rental was no longer available. WHAT?! Very very very disappointing! Then the company gave us 1 option - 1 option in an outdated, smaller, less desireable location. Talk about destroying a long planned out vacation and making us feel like what we wanted was insignificant. We were expected to just settle for the 1 place on their portfolio. As a client I felt helpless and let down. So much to say but what would be the point?! Whole experience was horrible.

Great get away

Everything was good, the view is beautiful. What we weren’t prepared for was walking into a house that was 83 degrees hot, with out a/c, no beeeze etc. when we searched we specifically chose ac as two in the party have medical issues with heat. Needs to be corrected. They brought two fans over and night time was fine, however we couldn’t sit inside during the day. Recommend thicker pillows, instructions for the tv, advertise no ac. Also this property is next to a state park camp ground. Views were beautiful.

Spectacular spot for a family vacation

We loved this house for our family stay. We were four adults, one infant, and two dogs. The house was set up for both communal enjoyment and privacy. The kitchen/dining/living room is spacious and well supplied with cookware, seating, and dishes. The outdoor deck was a great hangout and we ate all our dinners outside, watching glorious sunsets. Access to the beach was easy, though the beach is not sandy. We visited the park grass area and beach cove morning and evening. The only bathtub is in the master bath, so if you need to wash small children, be prepared to share. Only thing we could’ve wished for was a sharp knife in the kitchen.

Amazing location, views for days.

The location was exceptional, the property was clean, however it was not well-maintained. The views and walks to the park brought joy to the entire family. The home is spacious and well laid out. There are too many ‘repair needed’ issues to mention all of them. The cabinet doors in the kitchen are falling off, broken handle on the fireplace. The kitchen is well appointed, however many of the supplies are dirty, stained, and frankly need to be thrown out and replaced. Two things need immediate attention. 1. The master bedroom hazardous change in flooring level. I missed it and twisted my ankle, my 91 year old Dad fell and was injured!! 2. The Waldo room smells of mildew and pet urine. Nothing improved the smell even leaving the window open all day.

Great views but could be cleaner

The property is in a great location with wonderful sunsets. It is spacious and The kitchen well appointed and beds comfortable. The pool table upstairs was awesome and a nice surprise. The bad news, The property was not very clean. The kitchen floors were sticky, dead flies everywhere in the corners of the home the siding chair backs were filthy, and the deck and cushions had Leaves and pines needles all over. There was garbage in the trash compactor from prior owner. I let the property manager know and they offered to send someone to clean. We didn’t feel comfortable having an unknown person come in during covid into the house. All this should have been done and checked before we got there. The house is tired with items needing repair or upgrades. Overall my family enjoyed the house. It was a nice getaway that was roomy.

Winter vacation

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Disappointing. The house was completely dark inside & out making it very difficult to find the keys & enter in the pouring rain. The temp inside the house was 48 degrees it took over 4 hours to get it to 68. Totally unacceptable for the arrival of winter guests. There were spiderwebs all over the house & the master bath cabinets were dirty. Everything that previous guests have noted broken for the last 2 years WERE STILL BROKEN! There were labels claiming they were under repair but obviously they are not. There was a window blind in the master completely missing, allowing a neighbor to look into the bedroom if they wanted. Clearly neither the owner nor the management care about the upkeep of this house or the comfort of their guests. Its a great view but that doesn't make up for the condition.

Disappointed

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: 1. When we arrived at the house, many of the bushes and trees were overgrown. There are branches hanging across the entry stairs that make it almost impossible to hold onto the railing as you’re going up the stairs. 2.Once in the house, it became quickly apparent that the kitchen floor was so sticky... my brother had to mop the floors. 3.Many of the items in the kitchen were dirty. My sister in law and I had to scrub out both crock pots before we could use them. Many of the appliances are worn out and there are pans I would never use because the Teflon is completely worn off. Most of the seasonings were old and almost empty. There was no salt and pepper in the house so we bought some and filled up the shakers and left what we bought there for the next person. 4.The dishwasher racks are broken. The bottom rack is missing a wheel and it was difficult to load the dishwasher and get the rack back in the dishwasher. 5.There are mice. After the first day we found mice droppings all over the counters and we saw them other places in the house. 6.We saw that the ice maker in the fridge and handle in the shower were broken. The disappointing thing about that was, it appears this was reported in a review 2 years prior and it was still broken. 7.Part of the draw to the house was the outdoor fire pit... so we brought up a container of wood only to find out, we weren’t allowed to use the fire pit until October. All while everyone at the park had a fire every night. I feel we should have been notified that wouldn’t be available. 8.The other reason we picked the house was because of the “private cove”.. but it seems like there really wasn’t a private cove and that it was shared with the guests from the park. This place is just not kept up. The view is remarkable... the deck is amazing... everything else was pretty disappointing. Especially for the amount of money we spent. Also, this p

Great house, but not the best beach

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We really enjoyed the house. It had room for a larger family like ours, which can be hard to find. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking supplies and the right appliances - even a waffle iron! The deck was great - we used it a lot. The only complaint we had was that it was described as having a "private" beach. It wasn't private at all. The beach was shared by the adjacent county park, and park guests used the whole beach. They were polite and the park was not a drawback in any other way, but it wasn't the beach we were hoping for. It was also fairly difficult to get to the beach, making kayaking less enjoyable. If you want a roomy house in a nice setting, this would be a great fit. If you want a nice house with easy beach access that is reasonably private, this might disappoint.

Ideal San Juan Island location

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is perfect for whale watching. We could watch the orcas swim past from our lovely deck. We basically lived on the deck. It has a great grill and good furniture. There are tons of windows looking out on the water. It is away from the touristy feeling area. The house has everything you could need including a surprising number of spices, but could use some updates. The carpet needs to go. It feels a bit greasy and there is a musty smell downstairs. Also, the kitchen is huge, but the enormous island in the middle makes it almost impossible to get past others working in there. If you have pet allergies this is not the house for you. There was a good bit of dog hair in multiple places upon arrival even though the house had just been cleaned. We have pets back home; so, it wasn't a huge deal for us, but maybe a stronger vacuum should be used.

Just too much stuff doesn't work

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Virtually everything in this house is in some level of disrepair. From broken locks, broken lights, broken chairs, broken handles, broken windows, broken ice maker, broken warming tray, broken shower handles...the list is endless. The rugs are old and stained...the roof leaks...all the smoke detectors are missing. The management company is sympathetic, but not particularly helpful (they had the wrong codes for the lock box and the wifi!) Mostly, all the broken stuff was just an inconvenience. The view is lovely, but it's lovely from a lot of other places too, for less money and fewer problems.

The most spectacular view!!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It's hard to imagine there could be a home on the island with a more spectacular view! If we were at the house, we were outside on the deck enjoying the view, enjoying a glass of San Juan wine, watching a harbor seal in the cove below us, dolphins, ships & sailboats passing, deer roaming all around the house. Even after dark, we sat outside & enjoyed a sky full of stars and ships passing silently in the dark. There was an island burn ban in effect, so we were unable to use the lower firepit or the deck firepit. Would have been lovely on chilly evenings. The top two floors of the home are gorgeous. The lower floor is in need of a paint job and new carpet (or at least a thorough carpet was dirty!), but the bed was very comfortable. Clearly, the home is a work in progress...the first two floors are completed and the lower floor is next. There were a few items in disrepair (icemaker, deck umbrella, trash compactor, warming oven)...just minor inconveniences. We enjoyed every moment in this home and are already planning our next stay. I am Canadian and loved looking across Haro Strait to Vancouver Island. We fell in love with this island and cannot wait to return!
