Alaskan Homestead Cabin Featured on Discovery & History Channel

Nestled in the heart of the Chugach Mountains, this Alaskan homestead boasts tranquility, breathtaking scenery, and is located minutes away from some of the finest hiking trails Alaska has to offer and only fifteen minutes from downtown Anchorage. Built in 1952, this family owned property has been recently remodeled and updated with modern appliances. The homestead comes fully furnished and offers visitors an authentic taste of the Last Frontier- Alaskan handcrafted artwork, local wildlife & fish mounts, and vintage photographs from a simpler time.

Guests are encouraged to wander the 3.5 acre lot, fire-up the outdoor grill, and search the Eagle River valley for Dall sheep, moose, bears (brown and black), and eagles. Adventurers and photographers alike will enjoy the close proximity to Chugach State Park, the Eagle River Nature Center, and glacially fed Eagle River. After a day of adventuring, guests can finish off their day with a log fire, glass of wine, and favorite television show (DVD player and cable provided).

About the host

Host profile image
My wife, Whitney, and I, KC, are both born and raised Alaskans. We appropriately met while playing on the same hockey team at 9 years old; thirteen years later, we tied the knot. Just months after marrying we purchased the homestead from my wife’s great aunt and uncle’s estate to keep it in the family. My wife works for the Alaska Air National Guard and has been attending training in the “lower 48” (as we Alaskans call the continental United States) hence why we’ve decided to open our home to Alaska’s great travelers.

Why they chose this property

Built in 1952 by my wife’s great uncle, Smoky, this log home was an original homestead of east Eagle River, AK. Originally allotted 160 acres, Smoky sold the land over the years down to the remaining 3.5 acre property my wife and I now own today. This property will provide you a glimpse of how the old timers lived before Alaska's infrastructure was developed.
