Fall Mountain Retreat | Sleeps 20 | Theater, Sauna, Hot Tub

FALL IN THE BLUE RIDGE — WITH ROOM FOR ALL TWENTY OF YOU

You have been the one organizing this trip. You know how it goes: somebody wants the mountains, somebody wants to be near town, the kids want something to do when it rains, and your parents would like a real bed and a quiet room. Twenty people, one week in October, and a spreadsheet that keeps growing.

This is the house that ends the spreadsheet.

Fly Me to the Moon is a six-bedroom mountain retreat fifteen minutes from downtown Asheville, North Carolina, built for exactly the trip you are trying to pull off — a large family gathering in the most beautiful season this region has. Twenty beds. A private movie theater. A clear-top geodome. A barrel sauna and a hot tub looking out at the ridges. Game rooms the kids will not leave. And an indoor fireplace for the hour after the sun drops behind the mountains and everyone drifts inside.

WHY FALL HERE IS DIFFERENT

The Blue Ridge Parkway is twenty-five minutes from the front door, and the overlooks along it are the reason people plan their entire autumn around western North Carolina. Peak color generally arrives in the middle of October at parkway elevation and works its way down through the valleys into early November. You can be at an overlook before the crowds, back at the house for lunch, and in the sauna by dark.

But the thing that actually makes a fall trip work with a group this size is what happens when the weather turns. A cold rainy day in the mountains ruins a rental with one television and a small living room. It does not touch this one. The theater seats a crowd. There are four separate places to play a game. The fireplace draws everyone into the same room without anyone feeling crammed. October and November are, honestly, when this house earns its keep.

And when the holidays come, the kitchen is ready for them. Full-size appliances, a breakfast bar, a dining table that seats the family, a coffee station and a waffle bar for slow mornings. Guests have brought in private chefs to cook Thanksgiving-scale meals here and had room to spare.

THE SPACES

The Geodome. A clear-top dome set on the property with a path leading out to it — glamping-style, quiet, and the single thing no other house in this market has. Wrap up in a blanket and watch the sky through bare branches. It is in the title of this listing for a reason.

The Private Movie Theater. Not a television in a basement. A real screen, real seating, and a popcorn setup that guests mention in review after review. "We used the cinema room loads — the popcorn made it special." "They're still talking about how fun the movie theater was." "The movie theater was an instant favorite."

The Barrel Sauna and Hot Tub. Both sit on the outdoor entertainment deck with mountain views. In October this is the best twenty minutes of the day — a hot soak with cold air on your face and the ridges going dark. One guest put it plainly: "The kids loved the basketball court and swing set while the adults enjoyed the sauna and hot tub, which was especially nice after a long hike."

The Indoor Fireplace. The gathering point once the evening cools. Fireplace guards are in place for families with small children.

The Game Rooms and Arcades. Air hockey, shuffleboard, a pool table, ping pong, arcade machines, life-size games, card table, board games, an infinity game table, a children's playroom, and a home gym. "The amenities were outstanding, the views were beautiful, and the game room was unbelievable." "There were games for all ages, including us grandparents, so we were all able to join in and enjoy the time together."

The Outdoors. A half-court basketball setup, a mini golf course, a fire pit ringed with Adirondack chairs, an outdoor kitchen with a griddle and grill, alfresco dining, a playground and swing set, and a patio with mountain views. Fall is the right season for all of it — no heat, no bugs, just cool air and color.

SLEEPING — TWENTY GUESTS, SIX BEDROOMS

Bedroom 1 (Main Floor) — King bed. The primary suite, with a private ensuite bathroom with double sinks, a Smart TV, blackout curtains, charging stations, and a work desk with high-speed internet if someone has to take a call.

Bedroom 2 (Main Floor) — King bed, Smart TV, blackout curtains, charging stations.

Bedroom 3 (Main Floor) — Queen bed, Smart TV, reading light, nightstand, charging station, blackout curtains.

Bedroom 4 (Main Floor) — Twin bunk beds, Smart TV, charging stations, blackout curtains, and a small lounge chair.

Bedroom 5 (Downstairs) — Two queen-over-queen bunks sleeping eight, with built-in slides between the bunks, a Smart TV, an infinity game table, a play area, charging stations, and blackout curtains. This is the room the kids fight over. "The bunk room was such a hit with the kids."

Bedroom 6 (Downstairs) — Twin bunk beds, Smart TV, blackout curtains, charging stations.

Plus a full-size pull-out sofa bed downstairs.

Every bedroom has plush bedding, blackout curtains, a Smart TV, and charging stations. Three full bathrooms, several of them themed and genuinely fun for kids.

THE KITCHEN AND THE PRACTICAL THINGS

Full-size refrigerator and freezer, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, blender, rice maker, kettle, toaster, a full coffee station, waffle bar, baking sheets, cooking basics, dishes and silverware for a crowd, wine glasses, breakfast bar and dining table.

For families with little ones: a crib, a travel crib, high chairs, children's dinnerware, outlet covers, and fireplace guards.

Also on site: washer and dryer, air conditioning and heating, ceiling fans, a home gym with exercise equipment, a dedicated workspace, free parking on the premises, and an EV charger.

WHERE YOU ARE

Fifteen minutes to downtown Asheville — the River Arts District, the brewery scene, the restaurants, and the Friday night drum circle. Twenty-five minutes to Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks. Roughly thirty minutes to Looking Glass Falls and the hiking in Pisgah National Forest. Close enough to town that a dinner reservation is easy, far enough out that the neighborhood is quiet.

One honest note, because we would rather you know: the view from parts of the property includes the road below. If you are booking purely for an unbroken wilderness panorama, this is not that house. If you are booking for twenty people to have the best week they have had together in years, it very much is.

WHO WE ARE

We are Oasis Escapes, and we host this house ourselves. Fifty-five stays, 4.98 stars, five stars on communication across the board. "She was quick to respond even weeks before our trip and handled our big group without any issues at all." "Mindi was a great host, and the house was perfect for our large group."

We have learned what large groups need. Things are labeled. Supplies are stocked. The questions you have not thought to ask yet, we have usually already answered.

HOW IT WORKS

Book your dates. Sign the rental agreement we send over. Arrive, park, and walk in. We will have already sent you everything you need, and we are reachable the whole time you are here.

If you want help sorting who sleeps where before you commit — with six bedrooms and twenty people, it genuinely helps — message us. We do this all the time and we are happy to walk through it with you.

WHAT THE WEEK LOOKS LIKE

Cool mornings with coffee on the deck and the ridges just starting to catch light. A drive up to the Parkway while the color is at its peak. Back for lunch, then basketball and mini golf for whoever has energy and the fireplace for whoever does not. Dinner that everyone helped make in a kitchen big enough for it. The theater after dark, kids sprawled across the seats. The adults out in the sauna, then the hot tub, then the fire pit, talking longer than they meant to.

And nobody stuck in a hotel room across town wondering what everyone else is doing.

That is the trip. Book your fall dates, and let us help you get the rooms right.

About the host

Hosted by Mindi Irvine

Host profile image
Hi, I’m Mindi Irvine—mom, recently retired physical therapist, and now full-time host and founder of Oasis Escapes. After years of running a busy physical therapy practice, I stepped into something that had always been close to my heart: creating spaces where people can slow down, connect, and make lasting memories together.

What started as one vacation rental has grown into a collection of family-friendly homes in North Carolina and Washington—each one designed with comfort, fun, and togetherness in mind. I also work alongside my son, Alex, helping other homeowners turn their properties into welcoming and successful short-term rentals. We treat every home we cohost like it’s our own and believe that the little things—thoughtful touches, clear communication, and genuine hospitality—make all the difference.

Fly Me to the Moon is especially close to my heart. It’s inspired by a beautiful piano album composed by my son Luke, and it captures what I love most about hosting—a blend of creativity, comfort, and a little magic. Whether you’re here for a family gathering, a quiet retreat, or just some good old-fashioned fun, we hope this home gives you the space to truly unwind.

I’m so glad you’re considering a stay with us. We put a lot of love and care into every detail, and our goal is to make your visit as easy and memorable as possible. If there’s anything you need along the way, we’re just a message away.

Why they chose this property

We knew right away that 53 Blue Ridge Acres Road was something special. Tucked just outside of Asheville, this neighborhood feels like a peaceful mountain hideaway—quiet, calm, and surrounded by trees and sky. The lots are big, the yards are open, and there’s room to breathe, which was exactly what we were looking for. It’s not often you find that kind of privacy and still be just 15 minutes from the heart of the city.

What sealed the deal for us were the sunsets. Every evening, the sky puts on a show—shades of orange, pink, and purple stretch over the mountains, and you can take it all in right from the back deck or soaking in the hot tub. It’s one of those little everyday joys that never gets old.

The neighborhood itself has such a welcoming, laid-back feel. No traffic noise, no crowded streets—just birdsong in the morning and a blanket of stars at night. It’s the kind of place where you can take a quiet walk, listen to the breeze in the trees, and feel a little more grounded. It truly feels like a hidden gem.

We wanted a setting that would give families and friends a chance to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy time together without distraction—and this place gave us that. With the views, the space, and the sense of peace it brings, we knew it would be the perfect home base for our Fly Me to the Moon retreat. It’s where memories are made, and we’re so excited to share it with others who are looking for something a little magical.

What makes this property unique

Fly Me to the Moon isn’t just a vacation rental—it’s a place to slow down, spread out, and make lasting memories with the people you love. We chose this home because of the peaceful setting, the wide open sky, and the sunsets that stop you in your tracks. The quiet neighborhood, big yard, and mountain views made it feel like the perfect spot to create something special.

We designed this home for families like ours—multi-generational, full of energy, and ready to play hard and rest well. You’ll find plenty of space for everyone, with room for up to 20 guests and something for every age. From the barrel sauna and hot tub to the mini golf, basketball court, movie theatre, and arcade games—it’s all about having fun together and reconnecting in a place that feels easy and comfortable.

One of our favorite touches is the geodome where you can lay back, look up at the stars, and just breathe. And the kitchen? It’s made for feeding a crowd—waffle bar, espresso station, crock pot, rice cooker, the works. Whether you’re sipping coffee on the porch swings or roasting marshmallows by the fire, the whole place invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

The home is named after our son Luke’s piano album, Fly Me to the Moon—because it’s full of heart, creativity, and the kind of beauty that sneaks up on you. We hope when you stay here, you feel a little of that magic too. Just 15 minutes from Asheville, it’s close to everything, but feels like a world away.
