We really wanted to like this place but the second we walked in, we knew there was going to be issues. There were several spots in the floor that were extremely soft and my 6’5” husband was afraid to walk on them, so he didn’t. There was an ac unit still in the window and it is winter time. That should have been taken out as it provides zero heat and allows more cold to come in. The kitchen was not stocked at all, no knives or can opener or other things you would need for everyday living. They did bring over one knife but that was it. The cabinets didn’t have hardware on them and there was mouse poop in the drawers, it was gross. All the pots and pans were dirty and we had to spend a good amount of time washing them all before we could use them. The toilet would clog after just going #1 and there was no plunger. We had to had them bring that over also. My husband stayed for almost a month and he had to ask for a vacuum so he could clean while he was there and that should have been provided for a long term guest. The washer was filled with mold and didn’t work correctly at all. They did bring over a new one but that should have been checked before we got there. The room with the washer and dryer had zero insulation and was freezing all the time. You couldn’t go in there barefoot. You are responsible for putting the trash out but they didn’t tell you what day to put it out. The curtains they have are see through and provide zero privacy or light blocking. Not a good place.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We want to clarify a few points for future guests while also acknowledging areas where we could have communicated better. The home was inspected prior to arrival, and at no time was there any structural safety issue with the flooring. The areas mentioned were evaluated and confirmed to be sound. The kitchen is stocked to Airbnb standards for short- and long-term stays. When the guest requested additional items, we promptly brought over knives and other supplies. Similarly, when a vacuum and plunger were requested, they were delivered. All dishware is brand new and clean. We always respond quickly to guest needs and requests. Regarding the washer, once the issue was brought to our attention, we replaced the unit entirely to ensure proper operation. The utility room is a secondary space not intended for extended occupancy, but we still addressed concerns as soon as they were raised. We take cleanliness very seriously. Any concerns brought to us were handled immediately, including sanitizing drawers and sealing gaps under the sink as a precaution. Preventative pest control is regularly maintained, and no ongoing issues were present. Trash service is handled by the owners so there is no need for guests to put bins on the curb. While we’re disappointed this guest felt their expectations were not met, we remain committed to providing a safe, clean, and responsive hosting experience. We encourage future guests to review our listing.

About the host

Hosted by Diamond Butler

Host profile image
We’re local Cedar Rapids hosts who enjoy creating comfortable stays with a little personality, a lot of care, and hopefully fewer mysteries than the average TV remote.

We started hosting because we like giving guests a clean, cozy place to relax, recharge, and feel at home while they’re in town. Whether you’re here for work, family, events, or just passing through, our goal is simple: make your stay easy, comfortable, and memorable.

We live nearby, so we’re close enough to help if needed — but not so close that we’ll be knocking on the door asking what’s for dinner. We respect your privacy, appreciate great guests, and believe every stay should feel welcoming, relaxed, and just a little bit special.

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood because we live nearby and quickly learned it has the perfect balance: quiet enough to relax, but close enough to everything that you won’t need to pack a lunch just to run an errand.
It’s minutes from shopping, food, entertainment, and local spots around Cedar Rapids — which is great, because nobody wants to spend half their trip saying, “Are we there yet?” Around here, you get a comfortable neighborhood feel with easy access to the places you actually came to visit.
What we enjoy most is that it feels like home: convenient, friendly, and close to just about everything without being right in the middle of all the noise.

What makes this property unique

Located in NE Cedar Rapids, this home is close to restaurants, shopping, hospitals, downtown, entertainment, and just about anything else you may need. It gives you a quiet, comfortable place to rest without making you feel like you’re camping in the middle of nowhere.
The Grandmother House is small, but it has heart. It was our very first Airbnb, so it holds a special place in our story. It’s proof that a home doesn’t have to be huge to be memorable — sometimes all you need is a cozy space, a good location, and a front rug that feels like it’s saying, “Well, there you are. Come on in.”
