Vintage character home for adventurers, circa 1900s. Friend groups can utilize the second floor apartment.
*** THREE IMPORTANT THINGS! ***
+ The Edelweiss Mountain Haus is a genuine family home filled with personal history, family photos, and a late father's travel artifacts from around the world. You'll be staying in an authentic piece of a family's story - not a sterile hotel room. Please treat the memories with respect!
+ Built in 1909, this building is one of the oldest in town — expect creaky floors, a few scuffs, and the occasional stubborn door. It’s not a showroom, but it is packed with character, history, and sweeping mountain views. If you need flawless, pick a hotel; if you love a bit of imperfect charm, you’ll feel right at home here.
+ House Rules: Check in at 4pm or later; check out at 10am or earlier. No pets or smoking. Our cleaning fee is lower than most because guests agree to start a load of dishes and towels on checkout.
*** THANKS FOR READING! ***
The Edelweiss Mountain Haus holds decades of family history. When the original owner passed, he left all his kids this hilltop home where they grew up - the same house where they'd gather as children, mesmerized by his stories and the world map covered in pins from Mongolia to Madagascar, Easter Island to the Philippines.
KEY DETAILS
- 3 queen bedrooms (one is an upstairs studio apartment so this is great for friend groups)
- 1 queen sofa bed in living room
- 2.5 bathrooms (one upstairs, 1.5 downstairs)
- Great downtown location, walking distance to shops and food
- Great views off deck/patio
- Full kitchen & laundry
- Great hilltop location with views for days
- Perfect place for July 4 fireworks viewing
Dad was a true world traveler who instilled wanderlust in everyone he met. You'll see his original Lonely Planet guides scattered throughout - Nepal, Puerto Rico, etc. It's a travel library. His artifacts from six continents fill every room, and that same map still hangs in the study, inspiring new generations of explorers.
This isn't just accommodation - it's an invitation into a traveler's legacy. Every vintage piece tells a story, from the 150-year-old ice chest in the living room to the antique sewing machine table in the guest bedroom. You'll find yourself surrounded by 50 years of adventure stories and family memories.
The house sits on a hilltop with direct views of Long's Peak, the Stanley Hotel, and Lumpy Ridge Brewing Company. From its multiple decks, you can literally turn your head one direction to see Long's Peak, another to spot the Stanley Hotel, and another toward Lake Estes - a view combination unique in Estes Park.
Walk into the living room and discover artifacts from around the globe, settle into the reading chair with one of dad's travel books, or play the old piano while the wood-burning fireplace crackles.
The 55" smart TV brings a modern touch with the fastest fiber internet in town. But you can contrast that to an old telescope for stargazing or peering at distant mountains.
This is a perfect location for watching fireworks on July 4!
The full kitchen features butcher block countertops and a table that's probably 60-80 years old. The sunroom opens to an east-facing deck for morning coffee or evening wine while you plan tomorrow's adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Upstairs, you'll find a lofted unit with its own kitchenette and a spectacular outdoor porch overlooking the Stanley Hotel and surrounding peaks - a great spot to watch the sunset over Lumpy Ridge.

Other things to note
NEIGHBORS & NOISE
We do have neighbors and it is super super important to respect their quiet and solitude. Parties and loud music that can disturb them is not allowed.
OLD HOUSE
This is a very old house. If you are uncomfortable with its squeaks and creaks, it's probably a bad fit.
SMOKING AND FIRES
Smoking is not allowed on the property due to high fire danger. Sorry! Also, outdoor wood fire pits and charcoal grills are illegal in Estes. Gas is OK.
AIR CONDITIONER
Like nearly every other home in town, there’s no A/C. Thankfully mountain air blows down from the high peaks and will cool down the place quickly in the evenings if you open the windows.
BEARS
Do NOT leave food in your car! Bears frequent this area and can break in!
MINUT
We use a Minut noise meter. It doesn't record audio, but instead monitors decibel levels, temperature and humidity. This is for the safety of guests & to protect the home. It also serves to warn us about parties & prevent noise complaints from neighbors. It's located on the cieling in the kitchen.
- This is one of the oldest houses in town! Please accept its imperfections, creaky floors, etc.
- No loud music or convos on the decks
- We have close neighbors
- No pets, no parties
- Strict 4pm or later checkin; 10am check out
- Guests agree to start a load of towels and dishes prior to leaving
